News and Developments for Future In-Person runDisney Events

My family has been doing races during Marathon Weekend since 2012. I love running in them and will be trying to sign up for Dopey along with my sister (who is a perfect Dopey), my mom will be trying to sign up a 5k and 10k for herself and my dad, and my sister will be trying to add races for my niece and nephew. All during regular registration.

I really hope we get the races we want, but I’m prepared to just go on vacation next January if I don’t and cheer on whoever from our group does. My sister’s registration is the one that we want to make sure we get (My decision for Dopey was pushed over the edge because it might give us leverage to get her a bib by transferring mine if she gets locked out). If she ends up missing out because of Club runDisney shenanigans I think we will just be done with rD for a while.
I’m pretty sure perfects will get an opportunity to register regardless. I’m in the same category and was sweating it a bit a couple years back, but got in on reg day. Then folks in the Facebook group of perfects noted they didn’t get in, emailed rD and were sent a special reg link. I actually got the same link months later even though I was already registered. I may be off on this, but anecdotally, she shouldn’t have to worry.

Yeah, she was forced to the email route last time despite being in the queue from the second registration started. That will also be a backup plan this time. They seem to really be looking to extort people with the Club rD thing this time around though so I’m not taking anything for granted.

Well, my wife decided she wants to do a Disney 5k so we have a room booked at Pop for marathon weekend. I'm going to do the full so I'm not terribly worried about getting in but I had to explain to her she may not get the 5k.

Just curious... do you know how quickly the virtual 5k usually sells out? The idea of running around Bay Lake and not having to wake up at 1 AM is starting to sound enticing... :earboy2:

Nobody can even guess that with any kind of certainty. This is the first time virtual and in-person versions have ever been offered for a race weekend.

No one really knows but I would be surprised if it sold out as quickly as the in person races. Doing it virtual while in property is her fallback but she wants to do the actual race.

Regarding "perfect" status, I received the following email reply this morning from runDisney@disneysports.com:

"We appreciate your interest in our Perfect Program for runDisney events.

“Perfect” runners are participants that have completed every race since the inaugural year of the event. For example, a participant who has completed every single Walt Disney World Marathon is a Perfect Marathoner.

Currently, we recognize Perfect runners for the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend, Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend, and the Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend. Perfect runners are not counted until the fifth year of select events. Perks for Perfect runners will be communicated via email to those specific runners. If you fit this description, we’ll be sure to reach out to you directly with more information regarding your Dopey Challenge registration.

Please know, due to the unique nature of the 2021-2022 race season, Perfect runners must register for the in-person event at the Walt Disney World Resort in order to maintain their Perfect status."

I have seen a few reports elsewhere from perfect two-course challenge runners that they did in fact get an email with a registration link today.

I wish they did perfects for 10ks 😞
I didn't realize that they didn't recognize perfects for all distances! I wonder what the reasoning for that is...

I was hoping that the new springtime race would be my opportunity to attempt runDisney perfect status, but the fact that every year will be different (along with your comment above) makes me think there won't be perfect opportunities for this race weekend.. :(

I mean if they did them than I just haven’t received anything yet

I wouldn’t be surprised if they begin to “thin the perfect herd” by dropping races and distances that qualify. Someday, it may be that only the Marathon and above would be considered “perfect” by rD.

I personally wish they’d do away with encouraging perfect status. They have enough interest in their races that giving preferential treatment to the people fortunate enough to do every race every year isn’t necessary. I know there aren’t a gigantic number of “perfects” but as someone who just wants to do Dopey once, it’s frustrating to see people who get to do it every year and are given a freebie link to sign up while the rest of us normal people have to battle registration like it’s the Hunger Games.

Sorry if this offends anyone, but I’m really anxious about getting into Marathon Weekend and am dreading registration day.

FWIW, this is not a Disney thing. Many of the races that I run in have "perfect" status for returning runners, and they reserve spots for them.

I understand your frustration. I also think it's nice for a business to recognize a group of people that have made a time and financial commitment every year. I'm not able to have perfect status for any races, but I'd love the opportunity!

I'm nervous for registration day as well, but I plan to be online that morning with multiple devices (as always) and I'll hope for the best! Every runDisney registration I've been through has been stressful, but the reward of crossing the finish line made it worth it, and keeps us coming back for more! I will keep my fingers crossed that you get your Dopey registration!

I’ll only have one device (my phone) since I’ll be trying to register from work, so I’m not optimistic :guilty:
