My DH and I are taking our two girls (age 4 and 6) to DL in a few weeks. We are going to rent a car one day to go to the beach...

Which one would you suggest? We will be staying at Paradise Pier.

Which beach is the best for a family???

Thanks,
Crystal

It kind of depends on what you plan to do. The water will be cold in March, so "playing" on the beach (vs. fully getting in the water) is probably going to be a similar experience. Balboa peninsula in Newport has a nice little Fun Zone near the end with a ferris wheel, carousel, etc. as well as a ferry to Balboa Island. They also run harbor and whale watching tours out of that area.

Huntington Beach has a nice downtown to walk around and some good restaurants, plus the pier and the surfers to watch. The view on the drive along HB is nice because there's almost nothing between you and the beach. I think either way you'll have a good time.

Between Huntington and Newport, I prefer Newport. There is Ruby's at the end of the pier, which is a fun place to eat.

Also consider Corona del Mar--they have some tide pools there, a good option to experience the beach on a cool day.
