Hi lil_stitch

We stayed here in May 2010 (Myself, DD, Best Fr and her Dsis) for 2N/3D.

We found our room spacious, warm, clean and in good nick.

We were on the same floor as reception, only barely down the hall and down the left with our room being on the left. We had a view of mostly trees but we could see the lake too!

The rooms are much bigger and lighter then the SF and Cheyenne. The beds were comfy and our room and bathroom was spotless. We were lucky to have a room near reception as I understand its a bit of a trek from some of the out lying rooms.

We also used the pool which was great for when the little ones got tired, although it was initially a bit cool. There were plently of floats and arm bands for the kids to use too. The pools only downside was the lifeguard didnt stop the kids using the jacuzzi but Im being a bit fickle now

We didnt have breakfast in the hotel as we'd managed to get GMFLB for both mornings  but we did have a look in the restaurants and they seem nice.

Theres also a lovely boutique which was well stocked.

I personally loved the whole nautical theme and loved staying here. The only downside on the hotel during our stay was that the shortcut walkway (via EoS to Disney Village) was closed and it was a loooooong walk on the hotter days but thankfully that refurb is done so its now a nice short walk to the Village.

We viewed it from the lake a couple of weeks ago, it does need work on the exterior including paintwork and woodwork replacing, that's not to say it isn't nice on the inside.

If you dig trough some threads on this board you'll find plenty of reviews. We stayed there in 2004 and I thought it was a total dump and would never stay there again. From what I've been reading the reviews have gotten worse since then. I can vouch for the rooms that are at the end of the wings because I had the very last room out and it is very, very far. On a subsequent trip we stayed at Sequoia Lodge which I though was a huge step up from NB although it is considered a lesser hotel and priced as such.

we stayed there in 2006 and had a fab time, we really loved the hotel and enjoyed our stay there better than the stay at Sequoia Lodge which we found a bit dark (but still a nice hotel) . Yes it is big & you may have a walk but its small in comparison to staying onsite at the hotels in Florida - i guess you are going to get different answers from everybody as we all enjoy different things. I know that back in 2006 people were saying dont stay there etc etc but we loved it so much so we are going back in a few days time :cool1:

You know its only on reflection I realise how nice the Newport is.
I wasnt overly struck on it at the time - I think our experience was a bit marred by the shortcut refurb (I moaned about my sore feet for 3 days!) but after getting less than fantastic rooms (changed when we saw the state of the 1st one we were allocated) in the Cheyenne I now would be more then happy to stay in the Newport anytime. It (the Newport) was a great room and a nice hotel, I just hadnt given it so much of a chance.
And I know so many people adore the Cheyenne but I found no redeeming qualities bar the Red Garter Saloon's Pina Colada!! The outside theming was fantastic but the rooms were so bloody dreary and dark I couldnt relax properly. In contrast the Santa Fe's rooms were dark but not dreary and we found them very comfy and good quality and value for money and this was before the refurb!!

Sorry I know I've rambled a bit but Im sorry I didnt fully appreciate the Newport until the Cheyenne gave me a kick of hindsight!

After multiple visits to Santa Fe, we stayed in the Newport Bay last August for a weekend. The outside did look in need of more than a little TLC, but the room was spacious, comfortable and bigger than we were used to at the Santa Fe. We didn't make use of the pool, opting to spend more time in the parks. We did find the layout a bit confusing, but that did get better over the weekend, and breakfast was in different places each day we were there, which only added to our confusion. The only real problem we had related to language, with some of the CM's seeming very reluctant to speak English, particularly at mealtimes, even though we were clearly trying to speak French, which did take the gloss off a little, but not enough to spoil the weekend. Overall I would say that it is well worth staying there.

We have just come back from Newport Bay and had a lovely time! I requested a room near the lifts and got one! Staff were very helpful, check-in was a breeze! I asked Housekeeping for a kettle and mugs as we weren't on the Admirals Floor and these arrived very quickly. The pool was lovely although they didn't open the outdoor one til 3pm. DD loved the water cannons in the indoor pool but they were a bit much for DS3!
The room was comfortable and clean.
On the downside, it is true to say that it's due a refurb as there is some peeling paint and wallpaper if you look closely but it in no way affected our stay and we were not disappointed in any way.

The hotel is clearly in need of a bit of maintenance but I love the theme. I think it's the size of the hotel that is a problem. It's easily the biggest in the resort and it's pot luck whether you get a room near the facilities or 10 minutes away.

When booking, I've always used the following rules:

Quick, cheap trip = Cheyenne (or off-site)
Longer trip = Sequoia Lodge (to take advantage of the pool)
Grandad's coming (my dad) = Disneyland hotel because he pays!!!!

No we did not pay for the kettle or cups. I think you can buy a pack with tea, coffee etc from the shop but we took our own. Hope that helps :-)
