Newest "Moms to Be" Thread

Okay, I just realized we kinda went off on the mommy thread.

Sorry ladies, I get very talkative and side-tracked. Hope you'll forgive me. :)

Well we made it back in one piece, Thursday was our travel day & it was interminable, more on that later.

Our trip was pretty good. Weather was mostly pleasant, a bit on the cool side, but that was probably better for me. We did have one chilly drizzly/rainy day, which we spent at Epcot, so it was OK. I was really slowed down by pregnancy, which was a little surprising. Most days I rented a scooter to get around. It left DH feeling like he was alone in dealing w/ DS most of the time. I mean I was there, but skipped a bunch of the rides & I wasn't sharing in pushing him around like I normally would have.

For those who may not know DS5 has mild cerebral palsy, which for him means low muscle tone & everything is just that much tougher for him to do. He gets tired easily. We had bought a Maclaren Major special needs stroller on Ebay for him, mainly for this trip, but we'll certainly use it at other times as well. So after a day or two, something must have lodged in one of the wheels & our new stroller started shrieking like an old rickety shopping cart, it was pretty annoying. We made it through the trip with it, but we need to oil the wheels & see if it gets any better.

So most days we were out early & by lunch my son was asking to go back to the hotel for a break. So we did. We napped (great for me!) and then showered & changed & head back out for dinner. He still didn't make it to any late night parades or fireworks. By 8 we generally were heading back to the hotel, DS got a bath & into bed. The one warmer day towards the end of our trip, Wednesday we slept a little later did some shopping at DTD & went back to the hotel for some pool time. We also switched our dinner ressie that night from Citrico's to Artist Point so we had more time at the pool before we had to get ready for dinner.

So Thursday.... ugh. We had our flight scheduled at 6:20 PM, we were intending to check out, check our luggage at RAC & spend our last "big half day" (my son's words) at the MK. That didn't happen. I awoke at about 4:40 AM or so with a scarily familar tightening across my belly, the kind that makes it feel like hard like a football, rather than the soft mass it usually feels like. I'm immediately thrown into a panic. I get up, pee, get some water & try to calm myself, telling myself, 'ok one contraction does not mean anything.' My DH had moved to the other bed at some point during the night, to get DS back to sleep & just stayed there. I didn't want to wake them unnecessarily. So I lie in bed trying not to freak out, one hand on my belly until I feel it again at about 5:10. I woke my husband, tell him what's going on & that I think we need to get to a hospital.

He gets dressed. Goes down to the front desk, they call an ambulance and a cab. He comes back up & gets DS up, gets him dressed. The EMTs show up talk to me, take my vitals. BP is high (nahhhhh really? ya think?) and I'm packed off on a stretcher to Celebration Hospital ER. At this point, I think I'm losing them. I stay remarkably calm, but I really do think that going to lose them. We spend the whole AM in ER, they give me whole bag of fluids, not that I really needed them. And things calm down. Still very aware of my uterus, but no scary tightening... ER doc does an internal exam, cervix is still nice & closed, but it looks red (irritated I guesss) I get an U/S & the kids look good, h/bs at 155 & 156 -moving around like they should be. Not that I could see the screen. But I get that, the u/s tech wouldn't want potentially bad news to come from a woman figuring it out for herself from the u/s screen. But DH was there & he saw them. She did say that it appeared that the placentas had grown together & fused, not terribly uncommon. Report also said I had a cervical length of 3.7 cm - which I understand to be a good thing.

The ER did find red & white blood cells in my urine & they suspect a bladder infection & that may have set off the earlier contractions. They prescribe some abx & it takes a bit to fill the rx at the hospital pharmacy. They clear me to head home that night.

I don't reccomend having a 5 year old in the ER, if you can help it. He had a tough day. Time to have dinner, back later....

Danny's Mom, how scary!
I'm so glad that everything is OK with you and your kiddos! Are they sending their stuff up here to your regular OB to talk about things further?

I'm glad you guys had a good trip, even if things were a little slower and relaxed. Keeping you in my thoughts! :)

Phew! I'm so glad you are home and all is well with the two little ones. I'm also glad you knew exactly what needed doing when it came to going to the hospital and getting everything checked.

Your poor son in the ER, I'm sure it was a tough day for him-especially on vacation. I hope you all still have some good memories from the trip and that everyone gets plenty of rest now that you are home.

Danny's Mom- How scary for you and your husband. Glad everything is okay with the babies. Have you gone to your doctor yet?

Hope everyone had a great weekend. Mine started out great and ended, well, less than good. It seems a lot of you have problems with MIL. I have one with FIL. It is way to long to get into on here. I feel so bad for my husband and MIL. Why are some people just so mean?

Lets all band together and have a great week!:cool1:

DannysMom-I'm so sorry! Was your son too disappointed over his MK day? I hope you are doing fine now.

MinnieFan4ever, I don't know. I guess there have to be some in every family. I have a witchy sister, and unfortunately she is raising self-centered, racist, whiny kids too. Then there is the mil. I think both of them (my sister and mil) have created their own reality. They honestly don't see anything wrong with how they live, and blame everyone else instead. I think it is a very sad existence.

Piecey, I think venting about anything is ok on this thread!

Danny's Mom, that is so scary! I am so very glad that things turned out okay for you and the babies  It's too bad that put a damper on your trip but I'm glad you can still walk away from it with some good memories :goodvibes

Patsy, it sounds like your DH is going through a lot right now! Poor guy. I have nothing but respect for the men and women who serve in the armed forces, especially those who have had to go to war. My dad was in the Army for 22 years so I know how scary it can be having a loved one away. I am glad that your DH will be able to get some better help now though. I hate that so many doctors are so quick to just shove some meds at people and call it a day. It will be good for him to have someone to talk to who is a professional at dealing with PTSD. I will keep both of you in my good thoughts :goodvibes

Thanks everybody. :goodvibes It was a really long day. But we made it back, eventually. DS had a few meltdowns along the way, including one really spectacular, I'd venture to say even autism-worthy, while we were waiting in the hospital cafeteria for the RX to be filled. It was bad, at least one guy on a cell phone fled the area. Got a few sympathetic looks from some a couple of older women (moms? grandmas?)

I just think that he's not used to seeing us really worried. When he asked us "are the babies ok?" We had to say that we didn't know, and that was why we were at the hospital. Tough stuff for anyone to deal with, let alone a not yet 6 year old. And then we didn't know if we'd get back to the hotel before RAC closed, so we didn't know if we'd be able to take the "Mickey bus" back to the airport (since I'm off baggage handling) or if we'd have to take a cab. That little uncertainty really threw him off. We did end up making it, so that was a little relief any way.

I must say WDW hotel staff does handle a crisis well. I'd heard it before, but they really did do all they could to not stress us any further. We were supposed to be checking out, they told DH to leave our stuff in the room, they'd hold it for us. And then when we did make it back by 12, they let us stay in the room til 3. Enough time to shower & change, and rest a bit, something desperately needed after spending the morning in the ER. Our DME bus was scheduled for 3:35, we ended up catching the 3:15 bus.

Oh I didn't mention, the last thing that made the day interminable.... our 6:20 flight was rescheduled to 8:40.... extra hours in the airport, with a kid that was just kind of beastly by then, yeah. Fortunately, he didn't even last until takeoff, was asleep before the cabin door was even closed. Slept through straight til AM, had to work to get him awake enough to walk off the plane. Packed him off to school on Friday, he was rested even if we weren't, and we needed the break.

I did see my doctor on Friday (scheduled appt) filled him in, gave him teh u/s report & ER discharge papers. He said to keep taking the abx, and I got my first weekly P17 shot. It's a progesterone shot to hopefully ward off any future PTL. Hopefully. I'm glad the shots have started, it was planned out last month, but with everything that happened, I'm glad the shots have started.

Thanks, it's good to vent. It's mostly why my parents know.. I don't really like to talk about it to people in our *circle* because the one person I told told me to leave him and never look back. I was shocked. He's never done anything to me, never came at me, I know exactly where everything is coming from and know he is trying to get help and know that with my help he WILL get better, but alone? who knows. Leaving him would do nothing but possibly make it worse!
So it's nice sometimes to just get it out and talk about it.

I am done with homework so I'm off for the evening, hope everyone has a great week!!

Dannysmom...Wow, what a last half day you had!! Glad the babies are doing well, and hopefully your DS catches up on some needed rest along with you!!

Take care!!!

Wow gals! There are several of you who have a lot on their plates besides the pregnancies!

Piecey-I know your DH is very grateful for having a supportive wife and I am sure its hard on him not getting the correct counseling support yet. But hopefully that paperwork will come through soon and he can start getting some proper help with it.

December-it must be tough trying to overlook or at least deal with something your DH has learned from the one place they also learn to be heros from! Maybe he will be able to see that what his perspective is on women is all wrong.

And the family members added into the mix-can't they just get over themselves and be nice!! :thumbsup2

I feel very lucky-DH isn't military but his dad was. But his dad was an officer for majority of his army career and my MIL never had to deal with any inappropriate behavior from him and he was a great role model for his sons. DH is a a great husband and father and I get along very well with all of his family and he gets along with all of my family (although he sometimes thinks my family is a little crazy, but not in a bad way! ;))

Dannysmom-I hope the pregnancy continues to go well from here on out. That had to be tough to deal with not only the hospital visit for the babies abut also trying to keep DS as calm as possible. My heart goes out to you! It also sounds like you have a pretty supportive DH too!

Wow what a weekend!

Hope everyone has an awesome week!

My Target gift registry finally decided to show up on Sat night, so yay! lol

Nothing much going one for me.

Okay, as usual, I'm going to be the picture over-sharer.

I just loooove pictures! Anyone else got any to share?? :) :)

The curtains are kinda hard to get even but I like them more than I thought I would..

Thanks for letting me share and blow off some excitement! :yay::rolleyes1:laughing:

Patsy I love your nursery! Lucas is so lucky! I love balloon shades in general, so once i saw those I was like "oohh, ahhh". LOL. It looks great. You all have worked very very hard and it certainly has paid off!

Where did you get your glider? Im looking for one and want a good quality glider but dont want to spend an arm and a leg..

Patsy-your glider and the crib look a lot like mine. I still have them from dd. I got the crib and I think the glider as well from Target. A lot of people gave me gift cards to Target (we lived in the FL Keys at the time and I didn't have access to a lot of stores so I got a lot of gift cards I could use online) and I had enough to pay for almost all of the glider and crib.

Cute, Cute room!!!! Ya'll did a great job and I KNOW Lucas is gonna love it! Its very peaceful and not overdone. I too like the curtains-are those the same that you ordered online and showed us a pic of earlier?

Maggie, (hi from the freap chat BTW! I haven't been over there in ages!) the prices on Target.com aren't too bad-they are actually having a 20% off sale right now. You may also want to check to see if there are any consignment sales in your area. I know a lot of people sell back their gliders and are still in great condition.

I'm working on my massive registry and I have to say to check out Walmart.com I HATE Walmart, but they have some of the EXACT same stuff as Target and even BRU for a bit cheaper, but the big deal is many of the items are free shipping if you ship to your local Walmart. That is huge when shipping can be like $30.

And the Walmart site is great for reviews too. They seem to have way more for the exact same things as the other 2 sites...

Thank you! It turned out soooo much better in real life than I could have ever imagined!!! We still have crown molding to put up and a curtain over the closet that the color will match the curtains... but it's so much closer! Woohoo!

The glider is from Target. I ordered it during their huge baby sale in February...
It's this one: http://www.target.com/dp/B0009KKLDM/183-5834540-8434932
It's wonderful, heavy-duty, super comfy, etc.. I got lucky when I took a stab to buy offline (there isn't a Target anywhere near here!)
Though, I took a chance because after the baby sale savings, free shipping and my companys discount (10%, I can send you a link if you want!) I only paid $115.43.
Shipping was originally $74.99--- EEK!!! :scared1:

My Aunt in SC Site-To-Stored stuff off my registry and Wal-Mart actually mailed it to my HOUSE for free. I was shocked, it had site-to-store stickers all over it but there it was on my porch! :thumbsup2

It's ultimately why I did WalMart and not TRU, that they are cheaper on so many things. That and they're the only one around here that would have everything that I still need in STORE.. our TRU not so much and we don't have a Target. :sad1:

The crib is DaVinci Kalani in Honey Oak. I used my company discount and got it off Cribs.com... one definite benefit working for a monster bank like I do, we have discounts to practically EVERYWHERE! :thumbsup2
We don't have a Target but a lot of people got us WalMart gift cards for our wedding reception (which was 5 months delayed so everyone knew about the baby by then) and we've held on to those for things like diapers and formula after I stop working.
We've been lucky, my monthly (and yearly) bonus checks paid for all the big stuff- car seat, crib, glider, changing table, etc.. EXCEPT this stupid new law they are trying to pass? That would back tax all my bonuses in 2008 at 90%! :headache:
I'm starting to freak out a bit, but we all got e-mails from our government relations advisor for the company telling us that is how it would work and we needed to contact our Senators. Ugh. :sad2: :scared1:

Thank you-- and yes! Those are the very same curtains. I took a lot of chances with stuff over the internet but it all worked out pretty wonderfully! I like that it's not too themed out and he can easily grow into it! :thumbsup2
