Newest "Moms to Be" Thread

Hi everyone! Just dropping by to let you all know that I gave birth to my daughter yesterday morning. On Tuesday I went in for my weekly OB appointment and my blood pressure was high. Despite having it checked 3 times after laying on the exam table, it would not go down. They also found protein in my urine. My doctor told me to go to L&D triage and have them check me out, but told me to expect to be induced. She figured since I was 38.5 weeks, there was no sense in waiting for me to get sicker, I might as well deliver. I agreed; my mom and sister both had complications related to high BP, so having pre-eclampsia was something I was sort of expecting. I'm just glad I didn't have to go on bedrest; I wanted to spend all my available leave with my daughter, not staring at cracks in the ceiling.

In a nutshell, I was admitted that afternoon and induced a bit before 6pm Tuesday, got an epidural a little while later, and at 7:04am, Lydia Katharine made her debut! Lydia shares her birthday with her great-grandmother, who turned 90 yesterday (my paternal grandmother). She weighed 6 pounds 11 ounces, is 20 inches long and is a perfectly normal and healthy little baby girl! Hooray! :cool1: :woohoo: :cheer2:

Congrats!:yay:

Laura - Congratulations!! Her name is beautiful. Can't wait to see pictures when you can!

Stacy - How big was Brady when he was born?

Danny'sMom - So glad things went well at the doctor.

Patsy - I hope they give you the ultrasound!

When I did the 3d/4d with DS I found a few places online and asked around for recommendations.

I called a place in the phone book that advertised them, but they told me they didn't do them for non-patients either. Is that weird?? :confused3

Laura--CONGRATS!!!!! Here is a balloon. Kinda.

Ohhhhh, mastitis sucks, hot shower & try to hand express in the shower. You may also need to try & pump a bit. Usually mastitis begins w/a blocked duct, clearing the blockage can help. Definitely call the doc, you may need meds to help clear it up.

I wish it was plugged up. I think it's more of an infection from being cracked and blistered. Called my doc and she called in an antibiotic. Hopefully it will be easier to nurse on that side soon....especially since I have a VERY healthy eater.

By the way, did I tell you all that he gained a pound from Saturday to Wednesday!!! That's my little porker!:thumbsup2

Oh Laura!!! Congratulations...I am so happy for you and baby Lydia. What a beautiful name that is!

I wonder if they have epidurals for the breast?:lmao:

But how do you feel.\? Usually mastitis has you feeling generally run down & crappy, almost flu-like. If it's a more localized thing, around the nipple, it could be your little one isn't latching properly & abrading you while he nurses or it might be thrush.

Here's Kellymom's page on mastitis: http://www.kellymom.com/bf/concerns/mom/mastitis.html

another page to check out: http://www.kellymom.com/bf/concerns/mom/nipplehealing.html

I always found kellymom to have some of the best BF info on the 'net.

Did anyone get a prenatal massage done?

I've had one massage in my life (DH and I spent the afternoon before our 8pm wedding in a spa!) and DH got me a certificate for a prenatal one, and the appointment is tomorrow.

just wondering how different it will be. It's making me nervous, but the guy is really nice and said he's worked with many pregnant ladies before and it's a great way to relax and he can teach me a few techniques he learned through his prenatal certification courses.

Just curious if anyone else has or plans to?

Oh yeah.....chills, severe body aches, headache that won't go away with Tylenol, dizzy and nauseous.

He wasn't latching on to this side properly in the beginning and that's how it got so irritated. Then I used a small hand pump to release some and I think that's how it got infected. My husband brought it to me without cleaning it and although I had him go clean it first, we all know how some men can be when it comes to disinfecting things.;)

Thanks for the website! I'm going to read up tomorrow when I can concentrate better.:goodvibes

Congrats on baby Lydia, Laura! I'm glad it went so well for you!

Piecey- (I also commented on fb about your prenatal massage)-I had one with Madeline and it was wonderful. They didn't have a table for pregnant women (where the middle had a hole for the belly) but she had me lay on my side. It wasn't a deep massage (they apparently can't do that when you are pregnant), but it was VERY relaxing. Just like yours, mine was a gift certificate from my hubby! I am hoping he gets the same idea for this one, but I'm not holding my breath! :rotfl2:

Lisa, I didn't have full-blown mastitis but I did have blood in my bmilk. I think I remember my midwife saying it was blocked ducts or something. Pumping my milk was the biggest relief while that healed, as well as warm washclothes on it.

OHhhh... okay. I wondered how they would do it. I don't know if they have a table or not? I'll report back tomorrow. :confused3

Does your hubby have a FB account I could friend-request him and keep clever facebook statuses about the massage and how it was a pregnant ladies best friend! :rolleyes1

Well ladies, I think I might have mastitis. I am not feeling good at all. I will have to call the doctor in the morning...I've never had it before, but I'm pretty sure that this is what it is. Anyone been there before?

Lisa-I've definitely been there! I'm sorry that you are now. I've already read the two things that helped me most which were pumping and warm washclothes, but nothing worked as well as the antibiotics. I hope you are better soon.

I had one with my first. My friends chipped in and got me one for my 21st birthday. :cool1: It was LOVELY!! It was really close to my due date, and I was the size of a house. :lmao: I was so relaxed, I couldnt even walk afterwards.

I like your thinkin'!!!:thumbsup2 Just look under my fb account and you will see his name under my picture-it says who I'm married to. ;)
i hope you have a fantastic massage today!

Thanks guys. Thankfully my doctor called in a prescription for antibiotics last night. She saidI should start feeling better in 24 hours...I'm really hoping so. My right side hurts from the infection and the left side hurts from favoring it.

It's a good thing that this little boy is so cute! I couldn't say no to him for anything!!!;) :rotfl:

hey lisa. sorry to hear you are not feeling well. i thought i had mastitis too ... turns out i was just making too much milk and was too fully engorged..i did not have a fever or any other symptoms beyone the breast pain. they had me feed her on that side and then pump til empty once a day.
also had me take 1000mg tylenol opposite my 600 motrin...the blood in my milk and her spit up was from the cracks and blisters on the nipples...which were from her using her tongue to slow down the milk! so now they have me nursing her reclining w/ her on top on her belly or else sitting up next to me in a kind of football hold. this really seems to help a lot. the cabbage leaf thing came about around the time of the mastitis scare...they are a lot easier than those gel inserts...although those do feel nice...did they give youthose from the lacation office?
the other thing they are recommending to me that might help you is a "cocktail" on the breast after a feeding. I am mixing an antibacterial cream like neosporin w/ pain relief w/ my lanolin and putting it on.. then i wash it off before a feeding. this is helping some. i have actually divets in my breast from the baby's voracious appetite ... and am re-growing my n*pples. it hurts so much as there are all those new nerve endings!! but it'll be worth it in the long run.
other thing that helped when the breast part hurt so bad was putting my herbal hot packs in the FREEZER and wrapping them around the breasts after nursing.
i so feel your pain.
i hope ONE of these tips might bring some relief to you. i am glad to hear he is growing!!!
we are off to the dr this am for our 2 week check. tessa has, i think, a blocked tear duct...she has clear fluid in her one eye all the time that turns gunky once its out...hope they can help us w/ this.
anyone know anything about supplementing vitamin d for breastfed babies? i am going to ask about it today as i remember reading about it somewhere...
take care.
k
