Newest "Moms to Be" Thread

Just so you know after the baby is born...that Mirena is awesome. I had my ob put it in after I had Caleb since my deductible was met anyways. It is the most effective form of birth control. 99.9%. My OB says in the 5 yrs it has been out and she has been putting it in...not one of her patients are pregnant. Worked out great for me...I never remember a pill and this one I don;t even have to think about or didn;t even have to pay for. Did not feel her put it in and it took like 5 minutes. I would highly recommend after having a baby...especially if you have already met your deductible for the year which most likely you have since you had a baby!!

I was thinking about an IUD of some kind for after the birth, so I don't have to think about it. I had good results with the pill, though. But it would be nice to have something in there all the time and not worry about forgetting pills.

Well, I survived the Dr. appt. this morning. I forgot how jumpy that waiting room makes me. (It's been awhile.) It was too early to try and hear a heartbeat, but I am going in for an u/s in two weeks and some additional bloodwork. As I'm an "older" mother, they want to look for markers for Down's and other issues and I want to avoid an amnio at all costs. Otherwise everything seems fine. I will feel much better once I've heard or seen that little "thump, thump, thump" though. That's always when I really feel like there's more going on in there than a bunch of headaches, hot flashes, and nausea.

That's good to know about Mirena (my sister just got one, but it's only been about 6 weeks, so she doesn't have much to say about it yet). And you are right, I will definitely have met my deductible by the time the little one shows up in August.

My dr told me that if I'm going to refuse the amnio that the other tests were pointless. Of course, I'm not quite in the older mom category, so that probably throws that out the window.

I hate waiting at that office too. I found out that it's MUCH less crowded in the afternoon than the morning, so I'll be shooting for that from now on.

I thought my Dr. would say that too, but who am I to turn away an extra ultrasound opportunity? I'll be 12 weeks by then, and I would love an early peek at the baby before the customary 20 week ultrasound. Also, he's putting off all the standard bloodwork until then so that I can get it all over with at once. Which my jittery self was grateful for this morning. I don't know what my deal was, it's not like any of this was new to me. But it has been awhile.

I hope everything comes back peachy, so you don't have to think about any other tests!

I wish we'd get some new moms in here so I wouldn't be last on the list anymore! :rotfl:

My m/s this time around is nowhere near as bad as it was with DD. I haven't even thrown up yet (although I do get queasy). With DD, I started throwing up at five weeks and it kept up until week 20. This time around, as long as I'm eating (constantly :scared1: ) and I can rest, I'm usually okay. The worst time is first thing in the morning because it's a shock to the system to get out of a nice warm bed before the sun's even up and have to rush into getting dressed, getting DD dressed, and getting us both out the door. If I can take things slowly I'm better off as far as the queasies go. Unfortunately there's no such thing in the mornings!

Hello girls. I am new to this thread. I too am an older mother. I had the 12 week blood work and ultrasound 3 weeks ago. I did the blood work before the ultrasound so I would get the results right then and there. Everything looks good.:goodvibes The doctor said if she had to guess, we would be having a little girl. That put my husband over the moon. He so wants a little girl. I told him to not run out and buy anything pink yet. :cloud9: Feb 5th I have my 20 week ultrasound, so we should know by then. I can't wait!!!!

This is our first baby after trying for MANY years. My due date is June 27th.

Congrats to everyone and goodluck.

Oh congratulations!!!

All I know is I'm going to need some major mommy-amnesia to want to go through this again. Either that or the hope that "there's no way I could have another pregnancy with horrible m/s!" :teeth:

:lmao: A lot of people have said that they remember every bit of misery they go through pregnant. I dont. I never remember anything... from how sick I have been, to how much labor actually hurts. Maybe if I did, I would have had my tubed tied years ago. :lmao:

My older brother and I were conceived through fertility treatments. Several months after I was born, my mother, surprisingly, conceived without any assistance (I would presume she thought she didn't need birth control). I don't think she was too pleased about it at the time, because the amnesia hadn't set in yet. :rotfl: Although I'm sure she got over it soon enough and was delighted she got pregnant naturally. She just wasn't excited about the pregnancy part of the deal. I don't blame her!

Everyone I talk to goes on and on about how wonderful their pregnancies were and how it was the best times of their lives...I wanna smack em! :scared:

:lmao: My first was fine. But I was 21, and in great shape! My second was okay... not as much morning sickness as with the first. But I had a three yo to take care of. This one is HORRID. Most likely because of the fact that I am having twins. I dont see how I will ever forget this agony. :lmao: My hubby is DEF. getting the big V after these babies come!:rotfl2:

You are making me very happy that I'm not having twins--after I really wanted them badly. It'll all be worth it--or so everyone tells me!

:lmao: Thats my job! :rotfl2: My husband has ALWAYS wanted twins. BADLY. When we found out, he was over the moon. He has been on cloud nine this whole pregnancy... but he has been VERY glad he isnt the one to carry them. :lmao:

It WILL be worth it in the end. Babies are WONDERFUL! Its the little things... When Miakalh was born, Alex used to lean in and kiss her... She would latch on to his nose and just suck away. :lmao: :lmao: SO CUTE!! I cant wait to do it all again!

Welcome!!! Congrats on your little one. I am glad to have another 'advanced maternal age' mommy on board. I am expecting my second (DS2) and will be 40 when this baby arrives.

How are you feeling?

oh...I am AMA too! I was just happy to hear that there is one further category....Geriatric Pregnancy...LOL. Thank goodness I dont qualify for that!

I already had the CVS done at 11 weeks, and all came back great! It was such a relief. I also had it done with my first. I will be 41 when my 2nd little one arrives in July! I was 40 with my first...LOL. He will be 17 months when the new one gets here...I guess my procrastination finally caught up with me. I finally figured out if I wanted more than one child, I had better get busy! I have made peace with the fact it is going to be nuts around here for a while.

So far so good...but count me also as one of those that does not really "like" being pregnant. But the end result is oh so worth it!

Hang in there everyone!

Michelle
