Diapers.
Man.
And you'll have two! :faint:

:sad2: I know it. Im going to be buried in crap. :lmao: And they are WAY more expensive then when I started popping babies out! Everytime someone asked what we needed, I said... DIAPERS!! We havent gotten any. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: But I have gotten way better stuff, so Im not complaining!

Hey all..

One tip on the crib sheets from my sister who has had 4 kids...is to layer the sheets/waterproof liners so in the middle of the night when you have a blowout/pukefest you just have to strip it off and put them right back down rather than remake the whole crib. I layer 3 sets...pad/sheet/pad/sheet/pad/sheet. Then you can launder as needed. It has been a lifesaver...even when it comes to just changing the sheet not due to blowout. When I get to the last one, I relayer 3 more sets. I had 5 total sets (liner/sheet)

I also did the same thing with the pack n play....since my first was in that for nearly 6 months in my room before moving to his crib.

And on the bottles, I had a few singles of different brands and waited to buy until i knew which he seemed to prefer (Born Free)...same thing with pacifiers...on that one I tried EVERY pacifier on the market...he would only take one. I threw alot of paci's away...

Funny, my little man will be 1 year in 3 weeks and we are finally weaning off bottles. I think by Monday he will be done. I am just packing them away for 6 months until I need them again. I hope the next one likes the Born Free! Also, as far as nipple size, I would also wait to buy the next sizes up. My guy never went to the 3rd size....he only did level 1 & then 2. I had prebought size 3...but when he tried it it came too fast and he hated it. He was gaining normally, so the doctor said don't worry about it....so now I still own a dozen brand new size 3 nipples....maybe baby # 2 will want them...LOL

Hope you all are doing well!

Michelle

Isn't that funny?

That people ask you what you want and then don't get it. :rotfl:

I'd be grateful for whatever people can give, too! However, the last little boy on one side of our family is 6 (no help there, haha) and there is a little boy due in March, a few months before me, on the other side. So we'll just be getting baby shower stuff-- every little bit helps, though!

I just gotta figue out a plan now to prevent the Shih-Tzu from munching on baby socks. (said as he runs by with one of my work socks in his mouth.. !)

I was totally like that with my first. I was a single parent from the get go and bought everything myself.. Minus the crib. So I was preparing from the beginning..

I am WAY less stressed about what the babies need this time around. The clothes thing is the most bothersome thing to me. I have NO idea how much of any certain thing I should buy! Onsies.. sleepers.. outfits?? I dont know! What sizes?? :confused3

My little one spent literally spent the first 6 months from the time he came home in these snap front gowns
http://www.amazon.com/Little-Mish-B...1_13?ie=UTF8&s=apparel&qid=1232248670&sr=8-13 (they have different styles/colors and boy/girl versions)....we had a few onsies for when we were out, but these were awesome and convert to rompers as they get older...in fact I just retired them about a month ago...when they were more like knickers on him...LOL...I had about 12-15 of them....and loved the gown. I hated anything that went over the head....it was so hard and he hated it too. And maybe 6-8 onsies...and that was about it.

And we did have socks...I loved the Trumpette ones... with the laces...like little tennis shoes. I just bought 2 boxes, so if I lost one...I still had replacements for a pair.
http://www.amazon.com/Trumpette-JON...r_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=apparel&qid=1232248823&sr=1-3
They also have Disney ones....several styles...these were my faves...

okay ... all sorts of ideas rushing thru my head right now.

bras- i swear by the MEDELA bras. if you go to their website i think they tell you how to measure for one...you can also ask at your ob's office, there is probably someone trained to measure you...that is where i bought my first bras w/ DD1. the Medela comfort ones are the best ... b/c you can wear them all day and they are comfy enough to sleep in...i would not have believed it if someone told me i would be in a bra 24 hours a day for months on end, but i needed it! the other medela ones i bought were great b/c the straps had nice padding for comfort AND they were the only ones that the hooks didnt break after 12 months of use or pop open when i leaned over the bathtub! the website tells where to buy.

good stuff - triple paste diaper cream. saved our butts. :rotfl2: it was pediatrician recommended and has been awesome. used to be avail only thru pharmacy but now its at target in the baby aisle. we put in on EVERY diaper change and never dealt w/ diaper rash. its a great barrier cream ...my HS age nephews even use it now to deal w/ chafing from sports, we got them hooked!!

waterproof pads...we bought the small ones at walmart and put them ON TOP of the changing pad cover ... alot smaller to whip off and change in case of an accident.

kmart has HUGE waterproof pads that are AWESOME for the days you need to let them air out their bottoms ... also useful in crib/bed if they are sick...layer sheet, pad, sheet and you are set to go for middle of the night sickies. we use them even now under the older girls if they are sick and also used them during pm potty training.

SKIP the diaper genie. we never used ours and ended up tying diapers in grocery bags.

LOVE the throw away changing pads for the diaper bag.

LOVE tabletoppers for when kids start to eat out w/ you as well as the pampers disposable bibs. i would pack a snack size ziploc w/ a antibacterial wipe, tabletopper and bib. kept these packs in the car and just grabbed one if we were heading into a restaurant.

love my leap frog table that they pull up on and walk around that they can do the piano keys or colors or whatever on.

my stokke chairs for when they get older. DD2 never used a highchair went directly to this at the table w/ us.

BOTTLES ... if you are nursing, dont waste money on different nipples. i did b/c i didnt find out til LATER that you are only supposed to use the slow ones so that they dont get lazy and like the fast milk from the bottle better than the breast.. i guess you are supposed to make them work for it.

i just asked my husband - he says the best thing we bought is baby monitors ;) a baby bottle warmer .. he says the biggest waste of money is our baby bjorn b/c i am too short to use it and he is too tall.

i think our biggest waste of money was the monster stroller system. they are huge and heavy and take up the entire back of your trunk or van. i gave ours away. i would recommend getting a baby car seat and a snap-n-go...then invest in a great stroller. after three tries we ended up splurging on a maclaren and LOVE it. i think we could have saved a lot of money not buying lower end strollers and doing this first!!!

buy a travel high chair or travel booster..we used both A LOT.

sorry. i am going on and on and on!!!! i will be done now!!:cheer2:

I LOVE those Seven Dwarves ones... too cute!

bkreitzel-- what are tabletoppers? I like the idea of the little "to go" kit for eating out. DH's family is an hour in the opposite direction of mine, which are 30 minutes from where we live. We're constantly on the move and often stop to eat, though I'm sure we'll cut back a lot!

Keep going, anytime you want. :)
I love this thread because there is not exactly anyplace else I can learn this. And they don't give information this good in books!
I'm sure I ask a million off the wall questions.. but I don't have the type of relationship with my mother to ask her. At all. :scared:

Your tips are GREAT!! ::yes::

Oh...and best high chair bargain ever....is the one from Ikea...for $25.

It comes in different colors (white, blue, red) and is a HUGE bargain $19.99 for chair
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30069724

and $5 for the tray.
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/40076093

(you can get a support pad for another $4)

It is the easiest to clean. If I had it to do over again I would not get the expensive one with all the nooks and covered in fabric that never get clean...I keep one of these at my sisters house and my mothers since we are there a lot. I am about to chuck the expensive one and go get one for my house. For $25 bucks you cant beat it and it is so nice to have one when you are staying away.

I highly recommend it.

I have not posted on here in forever. I went to the doctor Thursday and I am 1 cm dilated. I am suppose to have a sonogram done this coming Thursday if he is not here yet. They are going to check and see about how much he weighs.

Lots of great advice on this thread today! I'm making lots of notes.

best Baby Jogger City Mini!!!! Amazing DH raves about the quality all the time saying what a great investment.

We plan to get the Baby Jogger City Series (bigger version of yours). We checked some of their models out, and were very impressed with their build quality. They're like bicycles, very sturdy!

Has anyone dealt with SPD or any pelvic pain during their pregnancy? I have been in agony since Wednesday. I have a doctors appointment with my primary doctor Monday. I plan on discussing it with her before I call my OB again. I feel like I am being paranoid, we just got thru a blood clot issue and now this, I feel so bad for my family I can barely walk without getting teary eyed. I feel completely useless.

I've had pelvic pressure pretty much the whole time, on and off. Sometimes I have pain, but stretching seems to help. Perhaps your hips just don't feel like expanding this time?

I hope your docs can figure something out for you.

My sister suggested that to me, too.

We saw that last weekend, but we weren't sure if it was big enough for the kid's tushie when she got older. :confused3

I have a dining kit that I keep in the car for restaurants. First let me say that I hate restaurant high chairs - ick!!...after my sisters 4 kids...I have seen some nasty ones....so I got this

http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2265745 for a chair to hook directly to table and then some disposable placemats that come in many themes just search disposable placemats on amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Neat-Solution...ie=UTF8&s=baby-products&qid=1232251418&sr=8-5

I also got one of these which was helpful when he was first learning to eat table food and dropped a bunch. The little safety well caught a good bit from hitting the floor and I just laid it down before I hooked on the chair and the rods in the chair kept it down...it wipes easily with a napkin and I just do a better cleaning when I get home. And it rolls up into about the size of a paper towel cardboard center roll:
http://www.amazon.com/Kiddopotamus-...ie=UTF8&s=baby-products&qid=1232251500&sr=8-3

And then these for under him also...the disposable floor mats (again on amazon in different themes)
http://www.amazon.com/Neat-Solution...ie=UTF8&s=baby-products&qid=1232251576&sr=1-1

I keep it all in the car - AND SOME EXTRA BIBS!!!! It took me about 3 months to remember a bib...I had a total block. Once I put SEVERAL in the car it was so much better. I always seem to forget to put one in the diaper bag...

Also my sister recommended keeping a tiny emergency bag in the car with a couple of diapers (remember to update the size when they get bigger)/wipes/powdered formula/bottle/change of clothes. You never know when you will forget to replenish something in the diaper bag or have an emergency and be out longer or go through more than you think you will. It has saved me more than once...I also just tucked this in the back with the dining stuff so it is always there.

I will say all this is quite fresh as I still have an 11 month old...LOL. I am sure hoping he starts walking soon...since his brother is going to be here in about 6 months...EEK!

The one thing I do know is that you actually need less that you think you do at first. I had quite a bit with the first one that never was used and just got sent to goodwill because I know I wouldn't use it with the 2nd either. Babies need suprisingly little...marketing makes you think you need "stuff"

Mine is currently 11 months and not showing any signs of it being too small. My sisters 4 year old sat in it...it was snug...but she did fit! LOL (she is not in a high chair anymore...she just wanted to try it) I wouldnt worry...it is a great high chair at a great price and sooooo easy to clean. And when you are cleaning it 3+ times per day with meals/snacks...that becomes very important....LOL.

Ahh.. tabletoppers are placements.
Gotcha.
Duh.

Excellent! I'll have to tell DH. He really thought it was too small. Me, I was looking around the store for small children to borrow to test it out. :rotfl:

We got one of those at the shower, it looks like it will be very useful. We also got a couple of bibs with "crumb catchers".

Sounds like an excellent excuse for a road trip to Ikea.

We might need to go soon, though... there is a chocolate factory on the way that is calling my name... hehe.

For me one of the beauties of it is that it is "compact" aka small. It doesn't dominate the kitchen. Those other things are beasts and huge and have I mentioned they are a pain to clean? LOL... I actually think I am finally going to go get another one for the house tomorrow....I just talked myself into it...LOL.

However I am not sure I would have been convinced prior to using it with my first and comparing the beasts with this one virtually side by side. In about 2 days, I preferred the Ikea one to the fancy babies r us deluxe...I just have been procrasinating due to my fatigue going out to get it.

It is only $25...so it is not that expensive a gamble...if you have a baby nearby with a deluxe high chair, go and ask the mom to let you clean the chair after a round of pasta with red sauce....LOL. Then go look at the Ikea one again...you will be convinced.

If you are looking for a deal and money is an issue then the Ikea one is hands down the best option. If you still think you want something more "deluxe" then my next favorite is:
http://www.svanstore.com/svan_high_chair.shtml

This one is a grow with the child variety. One of our friends has it, and we have used it and if I were going to spend $260+ including replacement chair covers and trays...I would get this one...

It is a very very nice chair and looks very modern and cool...but you have to compare $25 vs $300....ultimately a budget choice.

You and your DH are going to love it. We did buy some of the extras to go with it. I love the tray and the travel bag. The travel bag is a must for us going to WDW. The travel bag is such nice quality, I had a couple of people stop me in the Airport ot ask what kind of stroller it was. They fold so compactly and are so lightweight. This a stroller you can push with one hand and glides along smoothly.

I just noticed the name you chose. My DS is Luke James, so I love your choice!:thumbsup2

We were considering this: http://www.stokke-highchair.com/en-us/tripp-trapp-highchair.aspx
Sort of in the same grow-with-your-child vein. But it's expensive, too. I can't stand the look of the huge plastic monsters. I think we'll be getting the inexpensive Ikea chair.

And we also saw this chair at Ikea, for when she's bigger: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/90124510

We're definitely getting a tray to go with it. I have to say, for some reason, shopping for strollers got me really excited about having a baby. :hyper:

The cool thing is that we can buy the stroller with credit card reward points. So it's basically going to be free!

Wow...you don't check for one night, and you get 4 pages to catch up on!

One thing I haven't been able to live without is the Fisher Price Healthy Care booster seat. We have used it since DS#1 started eating solids and haven't stopped since. In fact, we use it in place of a high chair since we really don't have room to store one. I also bought one for my mom's house, so I don't have to tote it back and forth there. You can also buy extra "replacement" trays for really cheap on the Fisher Price website!

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=2626212

For us, the bouncy chair was a lifesaver. Both boys spent a lot of time in there.

As far as crib sheets go, I would have at least 3 (one on bed, one in washer and one ready to go). Any more than that is just a bonus. Make sure you get at least 2 mattress pads!

I had the same booster seat for DS. We leave it at my DM because we eat there at least 3 times a week. It has come in very handy. DS now uses it without the tray and sits at the table. Great product! It travels with us to family parties.
