Newest info...

The guide that we spoke to this past weekend was pushing 175 because once you hit the 175 mark, you received a $2500 discount.
When he saw that we were still discussing our options, he did say that we could do 75 points, but that was only mentioned briefly and definitely not discussed by him.
I get it, it's a sale that they try (sometimes desperately) to make so that people buy direct.
We are not their optimal customer because we like to know as much as possible before making a major purchase. We are also not a family that is on a "Disney vacation high" that will sign blindly.
Apparently our guide knew this already because he had ALL kinds of notes about us and what we have discussed in the past with other guides.

This is the best! You are an informed buyer! I know someone who bought 50 points at Poly direct as a new owner about a year ago. They'd rather make a sale of 50-75 points than none at all.

So buying resale, the 25 points you mentioned can only be an add-on?
If you are already a resale owner and in the system, then the smallest amount you can buy is 25 points as an add on, typically at the same resort. But you have to already be in the system to be able to buy 25 points. And even then, they sort of grumble and take their time... Whatever; I just saved thousands over buying direct.

Hahaha! Grumble all they want, I'm good with that.

It's our money that they want.

I can honestly say that over the past few years that we've been contemplating purchasing, the guides have become more of the typical salesman type.
Even some of the ones at the DVC stands in the parks.
It makes me sad that there is more of a "shove" now, as opposed to gentle "nudges" in the past. And maybe this is because they know we've been interested for a while.

"Here comes that 'Smith' couple again. Let's hand them off to 'Bob', maybe he can seal the deal."

Not today, Bob, not today.

We've visited the stands in the parks and various desks at the resorts, but I don't think they ever got our names, lol. We certainly never did a tour or anything.

Other resorts before copper Creek had minimum cash purchase of 25 points and loan of 50 points.

The 25-50 point resale contacts go for a premium.

Well this was never laid out as an option by our guide. Like I mentioned before, when we were showing hesitation, he simply said "you could always get your foot in the door with 75 points" and then changed the subject.
It made me go "hmmm?"

It was kind of odd when the guide started telling us what we had previously been interested in and even mentioned his notes.

Also, when he stepped out for a bit so my husband and I could discuss it further, we were talking about how many points we would need, at most. I told my husband that the most we would need would be if we decided to do a week stay for our kids' birthdays with a few friends.
When the guide came back in, one of the topics he brought up was getting a multi bedroom unit if we ever brought the kids' and friends for their birthdays.
Coincidence? Or is the room bugged? Hahahaha!
My husband and I thought it was ironic indeed.

How many points did you guys need? The cheapest way if you still want the members perks would be buy resale at Saratoga and add onto your membership with a 25 point direct contract @151pp.

The amount that we were originally considering was 150, but I'm thinking that we should look into the purchasing the minimum direct, then look into adding on via resale.
We don't want to jump in feet first if in a few years, we realize that we may not be getting out of it what we expected.

Money wise it would be smarter to try out resale first. Since you can buy Saratoga resale for 80-110pp vs copper creeks 182pp.

Plus if you sold copper Creek in 2 years you might not be able to get what you paid.

Thank you for the information and suggestions- now the question is what are some of the most reputable websites to use for resale? PM me if you aren't allowed to post this particular info.

The 25 points at all resorts except for 50 at Copper Creek is for an add-on by an existing owner. You can add on that small contract at any resort they will sell you, not just an existing resort you own at already. If an existing owner resells a smaller contract of 25 points, anyone can purchase that small contract and become a member, though not a member will full membership entitlements. But you can be a member with a 25 point resale contract. You just cannot buy a first contract direct for only 25 points.

It is very convenient to have two contracts titled the same and with the same UY. This means you have one membership and you can book with the two contracts almost like they're one. If you plan to use the contracts at different times of the year, then there could be some advantages at owning two different UY, but most just think it's not worth it for small contracts.
If you buy direct first, you'll have to wait for the right contract with the right UY in order to add-on. If you buy resale, you may be able to choose among all possible UYs, or at least the 3-4 that work better for your travel patterns. More choice means more chances of finding a better deal.

If buying resale you can buy whatever sized contract you find available. If you find 25 points you can buy that and be a member. If it's a larger contract you can buy that and be a member. It's only when buying direct that there are minimums.

As you are a FL resident buying direct doesn't matter so much as the main benefit for that is to be able to buy discounted AP's but you would already have that as a FL resident.

While trying to decide if this makes sense for you consider this. Buying direct and discover it isn't for you? Then you're selling for a loss - probably somewhere in the $30-$40/pt range or in a few cases even more.
Buy resale and discover it isn't working out for you? Then you're selling for around the same amount you paid and the cost has just been the closing fees and commission to sell - somewhere in the 8% range so depending on the resort in the $8 (SSR) to $11 (other resorts) loss range. And that's only if you sell right away. Hard to say if prices will continue up but getting some use out of it will mean some value gained.

If you won't be using home resort advantages, buy Saratoga resale in sufficient quantity to book 1BRs.

Is there a reason to do this with SS over OKW? SS has slightly lowers dues but I am finding OKW at a much lower CPP. Is there another reason I am missing? Thank you!!

OKW expires in 2042 unless you find an extended contract but those are usually priced a little higher. SSR expires in 2054 so 12 more years on it and it's dues are lower and have increased at a lower pace. OKW has seen higher increases.

I wasn’t thinking about that but that makes sense! Thank you!

Great perspective! Thank you!
I've been on a few of the resale sites.

How do I find out how many years are left on the contract?
