.. so I came to the realization last night that, although I love having DVC, I'm slightly bored... a part of me misses the hunt for new Disney stay deals. It used to be that I'd take a little time every day to see what others had found and compare what they thought were great deals to what I could find ... and it was all I could do to keep from pouncing on those deal the moment I found them (I recall the reservation system kicking out cheap-cheap rates for the CR a few years back (all in error of course) LOL).

I guess it's like the ladies who've made a hobby out of shopping the bargain racks at Macys? I was looking for that "score" feeling hehe. Well, I still have it with airfare, but that's just not as fun (except when I flew my kid home from college for $24 on a now defunct airline... gee I wonder why they're gone?)

With DVC - I love that we own at a location we adore, have the opportunity to move around to other resorts which are equally as wonderful, and have the peace of mind knowing it was all at a great price and planned a good amount of time in advance.

... But I still miss the hunt... :lmao:

Anyone else or am I odd? (OK, I know I am a little strange ... but still :goodvibes )

Nope, you are not odd to me! I still post on the Resort Changers thread and on the Resort board. The hunt was really fun - I had some really complicated spreadsheets going that had all of the actual and potential deals and discounts for several of the resorts. I miss my spreadsheets!

DVC is not bad though, you can compare resorts and booking dates as well as room sizes and figure out the best points values, so all is not lost. :)

I never "hunted" down a deal and therefore I don't miss anything ,. I just decided where I wanted to stay and when and then booked it. So now I just don't have to pay for accomodations anymore

Yep...I miss it too.:) It is really hard with all of these deals swimming around right now. I am having fun trying to help a friend plan her trip. I love DVC...but like you I miss the hunt too.

No you're not at all odd-unless I am too. I just love to get a bargain, and I kind of miss the thrill of the "hunt" for a bargain at WDW.

It's the opposite for me. I didn't like the anxiety I felt waiting for AP rates or a PIN or some other discount that we could use to keep our costs down. That is what motivated us to buy into DVC. I love being able to book 11 months out knowing that my good deal is locked in. Now my only anxious moments are waiting for Southwest to release their schedule and hoping we can get flights for a reasonable price. That's enough anxiety for me!

That's one of the reasons I bought into DVC - so I didn't have to spend time chasing down discounts. Between working full time and home chores, family stuff, etc., the last thing I want to do with my few hours of free time is to waste it hunting around for hotel discounts.

nope but I am upset that I have gotten 4 pin codes in the las week ;)

Yes! These current deals are driving me nuts! LOL! Not such a big deal if you always stay in a 1 bedroom or larger, but when you compare a studio to some of these deluxe room deals ...

I always searched long and hard for a good deal...I still don't think that I found the best deal Now that I see more of the deals that are out there. I am much more relaxed now booking my trip, putting my energy elsewhere. I use to walk through the parks thinking " I wonder what they paid for their room?" Now, that is crazy! I use to always buy at least one AP, then search for that discount, or we would Trade into Orlando. I just could not justify me paying Deluxe room prices.:confused3 That is what sold me on DVC.

Actually when I read the Resort board a couple of things jump out!

1. Disney lives in Fantsyland. Those hotels are NOT worth those rack rates. Even with the discount they still overcharge IMHO. (I compare not just location, but SERVICE and QUALITY) IF Disney with THREE stars wants more then the RITZ or Peabody with FOUR you have to wonder?????
Even with those deals the rooms are coming up at least $200 to $250 a night... Just not worth it.

2. AP discounts for this summer exclude the weekends!

I have reached the point where if I can't stay DVC I am offsite!

The "Deal games" not as much fun as it once was. If I still feel RIPPED OFF it wasn't a deal!

I do miss the hunt, but I tend to supplement with some cash stays, so I still get a little bit of the hunt, but there was kind of a letdown once we bought into DVC. Now my biggest problem is constantly changing my resort choice.

I don't miss the hunt, because I was never a hunter. When we wanted to go, we just went, whether it was a bargain or not. However, we always stayed in a mod, so the prices weren't all that bad, especially back in the day.
