Newborn at a Cardinal Game??????

You have to have to take a tests to drive a car, be a hairdresser, and many other things you need licenses for, but anyone with "working parts" can have a baby :confused3

How funny! I work in the public schools in a school district that is 70% below the poverty line. I agree! I agree! I agree! :sad2: :sad2:

We had our 7 yo's birthday party at our Minor league stadium last week. The day started out bearable but by afternoon it was 90's and high humidity.DH thought the party room was indoors but it was outside. We brought our 5 month old with us and it was very hot. After having cake, we went downstairs to watch the game. Well it was hotter there, with all the crowds for the game. Hideki Matsui was there so it was crowded. Me and DS stayed on the platform with his stroller and I was miserable. They gave out fans and washcloths which I soaked in ice water and wiped down the baby. The fanning didn't help much either. I was starting to panic, thinking how am I and the baby going to stay here for 2 hours or more. Luckily my MIL could not stand the heat and was going home. I left with the baby and my sister decided to come with us too. Air conditioning never felt so good. So my opinion is babies really don;lt belong anywhere it is so hot.

As for doing Disney with a newborn, I couldn't even imagine doing that. My DS is BF and all he did for the first 8 weeks was eat sleep and poop.Aside form the heat and sun all I would be doing is looking for a place to nurse and change diapers, which were often explosive. That is not a vacation. Just MHO but Im sure there are heartier moms out there who would barve WDW with a newborn.

Cadence, OT for sure but I notice one of your "bi-lines" says Baby 5 & 6 -- Congratulations! I found it humorous that a mother of 4, some would consider an expert for sure!, asks what age is old enough for WDW :goodvibes I think a mother who has already raised four healthy children knows to follow her instincts, but I say as soon as you can without feeling overwhelmed or stressed out. In your case, you have four older kids to help tag team, 2 on 1

Again, congratulations. You are a lucky family.

Brenda,

I have been reading threads that say "taking a 2 month old to Disney World" and found that the people asking had gotten the "go ahead" to take their babies. I've never been to WDW so I'm not sure about anything. With each baby that has come I've always learned something new. I am not a perfect mom, I try to be a perfect mom. :) Thanks!

Hi mom of 5 here. I just have to say taking an infant is tempting fate. My kids started going to Dis when they were around 10months old. You have many people from all over, some of whom do not have to be vac. against the same things our kids do. Babies have a hard time regulating body heat. I doubt that Disney thinks people are special because they bring newborns. I just posted on another thread where someone wanted a boat to put an 8 or 9 WEEK old baby in a Dis. hotel pool. Working in Healthcare, I just think you need to put the baby first, not what you want. Disney will be there for you in a couple months(it has been there for me since I was 10 ) . I love going as much as the next guy(and my dh loves all kinds of sports) but our kids have always come first, and we do tons as a family.

Congrats to the family above having twins---my twin boys were numbers 4 and 5 !!!!!!!

OK ,I KNOW IAM GOING TO GET JUMPED FOR THIS BUT I ALSO FEEL THAT
A NEWBORN OR EVEN AN OLDER BABY IS TOO YOUNG FOR DISNEY, :confused3 .BUT ALOT OF PEOPLE THINK ITS OK.

Under 6 weeks I agree as that is when babies are most vulnerable.

2 months and up--I'm not going to judge.

I took my baby at 4 months. We live in Florida--at day at the parks was no different than a day at home--except more stimulating. She did wonderfully.

In reference to other comments:
To call someone stupid for it (as another poster did) is disrespectful and rude. If you don't live in the heat---you cannot judge the parents who have learned how to live in it. You cannot tell a vacation parent who isn't from Florida from one who is.

So to infer that I or any other parent is STUPID--is just insulting and inappropriate.

How do YOU know that they didn't take every precaution and clear it with the pediatrician?

How do YOU know that for whatever reason the family trip could NOT be changed for whatever reason.

If you don't know the family's circumstance--it is pretty crass and crude to assume that stupidity is the factoring decision in the trip.

ETA: the baseball game parents is a different ball of wax. I would say unless it was a World Series match--the game could be missed--and the consumption of beer put that kid even further at risk for the ride home. :sad2:

Well, we are back... That being siad and reading all of the responses, I'm not 'STUPID', selfish, inconsiderate, crazy, dangerous or anything such as that. I'm a RN who works in PICU but hey, everyone thinks what they want so it really doesnt matter. Yet, I would like to say that I planned for this certain weekend trip well in advance, took into consideration every possibility I could think of to protect ALL of my family. I ventured out from 8am (early entry) and left at 10am. The weather was overcast and for Fl it was actually cool. My child was never in direct sunlight (as there was none) and the only times he was even out of a/c was when I moved from one pavillion to the next w/out a detour. I would like to say to some of the people who thought that I was 'STUPID.' Please tell me what the difference would have been if say, I was going to the mall, or rather Walmart or heaven forbid the grocery store??? Do you think the distance between my car and the door was any different from one building to the next under the conditions I went??? My child was actually safer at Disney for two hours v/s going to Target in the middle of a sunny afternoon and climbing back into an extermely hot car and waiting for the a/c to kick in. Is it socially acceptable to go to those places but not to Disney in the manner with which I went??? I'm not going to post to this thread again, probablly wont even look at the responses either. I can see that no matter what I did to make it a safe trip for everyone just before school starts that unless your in my shoes, no one person has the right to pass judgement and certainly not the right to call ones actions 'STUPID'.

But, WHY would you plan a trip to Disney when you KNOW you are going to have a newborn in the summer, especially when chances are it will be 95+ degrees. Sorry, it is just STUPID!

It's all perception and it really isn't other people's place to judge what they do with their children.

My child was born in July. We certainly didn't stay cooped up in the house all day until October 1st--about when the temps start cooling down.

Your implication that people are stupid for traveling with newborns to hot areas--you basically might as well say that others are stupid for living there as well.

It isn't nice at all. :sad2:

Our summer climate isn't any different then it is in Orlando, we have high 90's with 80+ humidity too. It is stupid to put the life of a child in danger just to see Mickey or a baseball game. It just isn't safe to take a NEWBORN out in heat like that, plain and simple. Wait a month or two if you are that close to Disney that you can plan a last minute trip for the weekend.

So it is that hot in Minnesota for 4 whole months--all in a row???

And there are people who laugh at us when we say it gets cold in Florida in winter (stop laughing--it really does!).

I wasn't going to post here again, people have made their assumptions and judgements on others (to me, it's ok to make your own choices based on what you think are the circumstances, but without knowing how can you say anything to others/about others...) However...

Living in Southern TX, I know what you are talking about. By March it isn't necessarily unusual to start in the 90 degree temps (with 100% humidity) and for it to continue through mid November--EVERY SINGLE DAY. And coming from the North, there is a very big difference in the heat, even the same temps because of location to the equator. There is a huge difference in how you live in it when you DO live in it and aren't just visiting.

IMO, the best thing you can do is not live for others. Let them think what they want and do what they want. For those of us who take babies--great. A newborn at WDW is no different than a newborn at home. And for those who don't--great. It isn't something you want to do and therefore shouldn't.

I also have to laugh at those who say it is putting your child at a greater risk. One of my boys came down with RSV at two weeks old (before we had left the house since I was still recovering from an emergency c-section). Not premature or any other special risks. At the third ranked pedi hospital in the country, a top specialist there told me that really there isn't anything special I could have done. Do not blame myself. Do not lock myself up, because it is obvious that it really doesn't help. People who don't have symptoms, never get a particular illness, can carry things, sometimes for weeks. While I shouldn't disregard common sense, I should live life as normal.

But to each their own. I don't think they are over protective or feel a need to live life in a bubble. They are simply only seeing things from a single perspecitve. I wouldn't worry about it. Do what you know is best for your family.

I know I should leave this thread alone, but I just keep reading. I don't understand how it can be said that a newborn at home is the same as at Disney. Heat, crowds, germs(yes, I know all about RSV, I had 2 premies, and kids coming home from school who had to wash hands so much they were afraid they would fall off) ......... I also know that you can catch things anywhere with kids. I just hope that anyone that takes a newborn to Disney has all the common sense that is needed to make it work(I also understand that it can be done, I'm just saying, does it need to be done when they are newborns)

:confused3
How did this get thread get from a newborn sitting in direct sunlight and extreme heat at a stadium with parents drinking to responsible parents taking their newborns/families to Disney? :confused3

Because some people would rather be judgmental and controlling of reasonable, responsible Disney-traveling families rather than simply concerned for the obviously endangered ballpark infant. :rotfl2:

Back to the original topic before we get in trouble for derailing the thread......Considering newborn babies cannot regulate their body heat, I would be gravely concerned about a newborn baby sweating at a ballgame or anywhere else.

I don't know what concerns me more---the baby not being able to regulate temp--or the lack of a designated driver (with quandery--do they have the proper restraint system installed properly for this infant).

Considering they had the poor thing dressed in nothing but a diaper - I highly doubt it! I did see her give it a bottle. I watched them closely :guilty: all night!!

It has been hotter and more humid in Minnesota this summer then it has been in Orlando. Yes, it is hot and humid ALL summer here (it was 97 degrees again yesterday). I know people think we walk around in snow suits all year, but we don't. It might get chilly in Florida, but it certainly doesn't get cold. We have gone from temps of -65 degrees (that is below zero) to 115 degrees above zero this year.

I do consider freezing--to be cold...so anything below 32 degrees...it is cold. Sure--not as cold as what you have....but you ain't getting away with wearing a bikini.

It has been hot since May and will continue until well past September. To some northeners...it is Hot April to October. That's 7 months out of the year.

sure we have air conditioning---but it is still hot. And unless you live here....those who have chosen to trade insults on what those in hot climates or those who visit hot climates--who are responsible with their babies....are best to keep their very attacking opinions to themselves.

We are very acclimated--and we are used to it. Heck--they say swaddle newborns....my daughter hated it--she wanted to be uncovered...that was comfy to her. She's a warm baby. Always has been.

A heat wave in a northern state--is not the same as a very warm climate. Just as you don't think that anything above zero is really cold. You have the appropriate gear and acumen to deal with the cold...we have the appropriate gear and acumen to deal with the heat.

And to keep it on topic--the people in the OP's posts are morons.
