Our family really enjoyed this ride. I think a lot of folks have been scared off by all the hype, because it can be a walk on when Test Track has a 60 minute wait. I talked to someone who said that they've toned down the ride since it first opened. You don't have a "spinning" feeling at all. The only thing is that they talk about motion sickness so much in the pre-show that you can feel a bit sick just by suggestion. But give it a try - it's a good ride.

We've been twice since it opened and I've chickened out both times. My DH rode it and loved it. I have promised myself that I will ride it on our next trip -which is in 20 short days.

Anyone else share in missypie's sentiment - care to convince me to give it a try?????

My family loves it, and can ride it over and over. I will admit that it does turn me green, but I try to ride once a trip.

We purposely skipped it last trip because so MANY people said it made them sick. We had a short trip and we couldn't bear to lose an hour (or a whole day) being sick from Mission: Space. Since we have been back DH has watched the planning DVD and read the guide books and he says he was "robbed" because we didn't ride it! OK, fine! In October he can ride it. And if DS feels the need he may ride, too! I'm undecided. I can decide when we get there. ;)

It really really doesn't make you sick. I think it's been toned down.

I am scared to death to try this ride!

My DH and oldest DD have ridden it and they did fine, didn't even need any recuperation time. But I have had some bad inner ear problems in the past so the thought of loosing the touring time to recoup really worries me! :worried:

I want to ride it, but I don't know if I will be able to work up the nerve...... :tilt:

Don't be scared. It can make you sick, which does not mean it WILL make you sick. I just wouldn't eat a huge meal prior, but do have fluids in you so the acid in your tummy doesn't get you sick. I've been on it about 12 times and have not seen anyone use a bag yet.

MS doesn't get to me at all and I can't ride the teacups, yet I can ride ANYTHING else. I have been on MS with a few different people who were making their first ride and only one of them got a little woozy. But, even he said he would do it again this year. :wave2:

Went on last August with my niece and nephew (twins, age 6). We were all fine and plan to go on again this year. Their parents chickened out.

My dh rode it and loved it! He said Sonya you have to ride this ride. I rode it and puked for the next hour. Turns out I was about a week pg but I don't if that made any difference. I probably would not ride it again.

We rode M:S the day it 'officially' opened in Aug '03. It was incredible. No sickness for us. But, my dh did get a headache. He can ride it once and that's it. My dd, now almost 12, and I can ride it over and over with no ill effects. I did get queasy once but that's because I was an idiot and rode it right after I ate lunch.
As for toning it down...I don't really see any difference from the first time we rode it. We've ridden it in Dec '03, Aug '04, Nov '04...no problems, no difference. I do know that CM's told us it was really wicked when it was first started. A lot of motion sickness then. but it was mostly CM's that were riding it. Of course, when we rode last Aug there was a 'clean-up' crew working on one of the pods!!!! So obviously it can still happen. But, people get sick on RnRC also.

I went on the "toned-down" version of the ride, and I felt the spinning the moment it started. I think that the ability to detect it varies from person to person. While I never became physically ill, I had to go back to my hotel and lie down for about an hour and a half before I felt better. I followed all the rules about keeping my head back, etc. and was very disappointed that the ride bothered me because the effects (other than that darn spinning) were great. Wish I could try it again, but I know better...

I can ride RnR, in fact it is my all time favorite ride!! However, I cannot ride the tea cups! (well, I can, it just gives me a headache!) So, I still don't know if I can ride this one!

I really, really WANT to though... so reading (most of) these posts helps!

Do you think chewing gum, or having a hard candy (like a peppermint) might help?? (like I posted earlier, I have inner hear problems....)

I went on in Oct 2003, and felt pretty lousy afterward, so did DD. When did they tone it down? I had to sit in that game room for awhile til I felt better

I felt it my duty to add my husband's experience. Everyone kept getting off the ride saying it was fine so he got on with a friend after taking dramamine 1hr prior. He was so green it ruined the rest of the day for him. He and his friend had to sit on the sidewalk for a half hour before they could even get up. My husband will ride thrill rides all day but this really messed him up. Ride at your own risk. I'd love to try it, but can't bear to be miserable.

It didn't make me sick, just scared the hoo-ha out of me. And I love roller coasters, try to do the dueling dragons over at Universal when I can. For me it was when the instrument panel tilts toward your head and you KNOW you are locked in that tin can with three other people for the next five minutes no matter how loudly you yell or how heartily you yack.

It's sort of like being shaken around in a can by a giant. With video.

I totally and completely believe it's like being an astronaut. I now know that I will NEVER want to be an astronaut! :earboy2:

It's best to be cautious though. It's still the only ride at WDW with barf bags that I know of, and I don't think there are there simply for ambience, LOL! There's still no guarantee that everyone who rides will feel hunky-dory when they exit. Note: I've ridden and felt fine afterwards, but that doesn't mean everyone will share my experience. It is still prudent to weigh the risk-reward factor before riding.

I guess I'm immune to feeling sick on rides. I can almost feel a little bit odd sometimes when I'm not following directions. I'd stay on about all day if disney would let me. My dad will only ride it once per day. So if the single rider line is really short, and I want to ride more, that's what I do. My only real worry is that if someone else in the same capsule as me gets sick, then I might too. That's the only way I think I could have a problem. Also, I do think that the numerous motion sickness warning might be a power of suggestion for some people. If someone might get nausiated from the ride, pounding it into his or her head that the ride can make them sick won't help someone not get sick.

OK! You got me there! Maybe I'll just stay happy and skip it!
