I currently have a reservation with 2014 banked points. I am considering switching resorts but am unsure of the best way to do this to insure that my 2015 remain "bankable" (our intent at this time).

If I waitlist the second reservation and it comes through I can select that they cancel my existing reservation and those 2014 points will be used, correct?

If I piece it together myself with 2015 points and have success getting my days can I then cancel my original reservation that I made with 2014 points and apply them to the new reservation that I have made with 2015 points? THEN what happens to those 2015 points? As long as I am still in my banking window (and I will be) will they be bankable OR because they were once applied to a reservation are they stuck in 2015? (and I know I need to cancel before the holding window).

I hope my question isn't too complicated! Thanks for any help!

Yes.

To give you a 100% correct answer, we really need to know your use year and if the reservations dates fall within your 2014 use year or your 2015 use year.

IF your reservation falls within your 2015 use year and the points you used for it were banked into 2015 from your 2014 use year, then you could piece together an alternate reservation, cancel the original and ask MS to reallocate the points so that the 2015 use year points are returned to your account. If you are not past the 2015 banking deadline for your use year, you can then bank those returned 2015 use year points into your 2016 use year.

However, if the original reservation falls within your 2014 use year and the points you are saying are banked were originally from your 2013 use year, you cannot use any 2015 points to piece together a reservation without borrowing the 2015 points into your 2014 use year. Once borrowed or banked, the points cannot be returned to their original use year. If you did piece something together in this case, all the points would have to be used before the end of your 2014 use year.

@CarolMN! Thanks for taking the time to respond. I'm laughing at myself because I originally typed this post with all the dates then eliminated them because I thought it was too much info. So to provide more detail:

UY is June
Vacation is June 2015
Current reservation is with banked 2014 points
To secure a second reservation (to then cancel the first) I only have TRUE 2015 points.

So from your response I believe I am ok to do this and still be able to bank the 2015 points as long as the 2015 points are freed up before the 31 days out.

Yes. You are OK. :)

Thank you!!!

Also...if I can piece together my days I can call MS for them to merge that into one reservation, correct?

Am actually considering just cancelling my original reservation (for now anyways) it is OKW and they show studios available for the whole month of June. I think the idea of having multiple reservations at the same time and using all those points is stressing me out. Haha!

Am I wrong to assume that OKW or SSR should have something (as a back up plan) up to a few weeks out?

Yes, as long as the reservations are for the exact same booking category. For example, you couldn't merge a dedicated two bedroom with a lock off two bedroom.

IMO, you should be able to get a studio at SSR or OKW if your preferred choice isn't available. But the closer you get to June, the more likely some of the nights you need will not be available. You would be risking a move. Personally, I wouldn't wait to book the back up past the 61 day mark.
