Hello,
This will be my first trip to Disney in a wheelchair. I'm a little concerned about the table service places. Do I need to tell them ahead of time? I can get out of my chair and sit at a regular table. I just don't like the idea of leaving my chair unattended outside of the restaurant that long. The only place I mentioned it upon making ADR's was for Biertergarten. She said she would note it on my ressie. I will get up and get my food as it is a buffet. Is this weird to do??
I'm sorry for all the questions. I'm just really nervous about this. I want to sit in the car with my family at Sci Fi too. I hope I won't have any problems.
Also are there any counter service places where I may encounter space issues? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks so much!

Hey! You from Joisey, I'm from Joisey!

DW stays in her chair (mobility & balance issues), so I can't really speak to transferring. But in all our trips since she needed the WC I can't think of any instances where the WC was an issue in a restaurant. You could just stay in the WC and use it in lieu of the regular chairs.

If you really want to transfer, I think in most restaurants there are places inside to put the WC. If you are concerned about the security of the WC, take a bike lock.

Sci Fi may have cars that are WC friendly.

Except for crowds, I can't think of any space problems at CS locations. :thumbsup2

the always move a chair out for mother. also have her the option to sit at the table, then took the wheelchair to the front of the restuarant.

so you could do either.

kept in mind that these are real cars - and can be difficult to get into and out of - so you might consider the tables.

Thank You both for your help! It's amazing the things I worry about. :confused3
I'm just now coming to terms with having to use the wheelchair ... then throw this Disney trip in and well..I'm a bit frazzled!!
Thanks Again!!!

Many restaurant will have an area to stow a folded wheelchair if you wish to transfer to a standard table chair. Mom used to transfer, but finds it easier to simply stay in her chair. For buffets, I simply make two trips, one for her, one for me, but there is no reason why you couldn't get out of the chair at a buffet, and then return to it at the table to once you have your food.

Do whatever is most comfortable for you.

You might want to keep a decent lock with you. All you need to do is lock one wheel to the frame, or even run the lock over the wheel edge. This will allow the CMs to move the chair if they are straightening up an area, but nobody will really bea ble to use it.

My DD can't get out of ther wheelchair, so it's not an issue for us.

If you want to get out of the wheelchair, and you want to keep it nearby, and you have room at your table - you could park the wheelchair at the table and aks the CM to remove one of the chairs to make room for the wheelchair. They do take a chair away for us to make room for DD to sit by the table in her wheelchair, so I don't see why they would not do it if you want to park your wheelchair there.

Thanks Again Everyone
I haven't really decided if I'll stay in my chair or not. I guess that depends on how I feel that day. I will probably get a bike lock just in case.
I do really appreciate all your help!!
