Newbie Transfer Points Question

Hi Everyone -

I've looked around, but have had trouble finding an answer to this one. We just closed on 100 pts at SSR. We are trying to keep our MFs low, so are trying to be creative in "finding" more points when we need them.

We have a vacation booked in January for 216 pts. (We got 2008 and 2009 pts with our contract.) So we've borrowed 16 pts from our 2010 allotment (April use year.)

Let's say I buy 23 transfer points on the board that expire in February 2010, could I apply those to my already booked vacation? Would MS back off 23 of "our" points, putting 16 back in the 2010 year and putting 7 back into the 2009 use year?

Or... since I've made the reservation, are these points already "gone"?

It depends.

First of all, the points originally banked from 2008 and those borrowed from 2010 must stay in your 2009 use year. If those are not used prior to the end of your 2009 use yer (3/31/2010), they will expire and be lost to you.

About the transferred points - it depends on when you booked the January vacation and the hoem resort of the transferred points. If the transferred points were from your home resort or if you booked after the 7 month window opened, them MS could use those points in place of some of the 2009 use year points. If you are within your banking deadline (which is 11/30/2009), then you could bank those 2009 points.

Otherwise, there would have to be availability remaining for the day(s) for which you want to use the transferred points. In other words, no waitlist for any of the days of the reservation..

FWIW, I would only do it if there were availability in any case - otherwise you risk losing the reservation if you get a CM who is not experienced.

If this were me, I'd leave the January reservation as is. I'd look for a transfer just before I was ready to make my next reservation. Then I'd use the transferred points to make that reservation.

You cannot "unborrow" points. Once they are borrowed, they are current year points.

If this were me, I'd leave the January reservation as is. I'd look for a transfer just before I was ready to make my next reservation. Then I'd use the transferred points to make that reservation.

Transfered points retain their home resort and UY and you are limited to one transfer per year. if you find yourself frequently running short on points, I would be looking for a small add on through resale.
