I have never rented anyone's points before but it sounds like a great idea. Problem, I have no idea where to start. I read the FAQ and tried the points calculator but there is no option there for 2006.
How can I find out the points needed for the BC for May 2006?
I have figured out that I need to know how many points I need and then post a rental request.

TIA to all of you experts. I appreciate your patience ;) :teeth:

just ask for your days.

and don't rent weekend points - weekend are Fri/Sat - not sat/sun.

Sun-thurs is your best rental days.

It is 13 points Sun-thurs for a studio in May - so it will be somewhere around $130 per night.

fri/sat are 29 points so $290 per night.

remember points won't do you any good - you need a reservation. If they can't get you your reservation then go to someone else.

I read somewhere that 2006 point charts would be the same as 2005 if you can find those charts (I can't get the links on this website to work for some reason).

Funny though, I too am planning to rent in May of '06.

spiceycat, why are you saying not to rent points on a weekend? Just cause of the cost, or would it be cheaper to pay cash for those nights?

You can use the May 2005 charts for a May 2006 stay. There will be no difference.

Sorry the link does't work. I'm sure they will have it fixed soon.

Usually, it will cost you less to reserve Friday and Saturday nights through CRO than it will to rent points for those nights from a DVC member - especially if you can snag a discount. However, you should do the math for yourself because that is not always true. For example, it's not true for a May 2006 stay in a studio at the BWV or BCV if you have to pay rack rate and can rent points for $13 or less each.

Rack rate for May, 2006 for a studio at either the BCV or the BWV is $384.68 per night including tax. You can get a studio weeknight for 13 points and a weekend night for 29 points.

Even if you have to pay $13 per point, you will pay $$377/weekend night if you rent points. (No additional tax or fee is owed when you rent points). If you can find points for $10/point, that Friday and Saturday night will run you $290/night. To make paying cash a better deal for the weekend nights with points at $10 each, you'd have to get a 25% discount from rack. I don't think the discounts have been that good lately. Don't think they will get more generous in 2006 - demand is up.

HTH.

Best wishes -

P.S. If you have a specific resort in mind (other than BCV or BWV), I'll be happy to post the points required for a May stay. I posted PV points for BWV because standard views can be tough to get.

Thanks for the info. Out of curiosity, do you have to be a member to find out if a particular reservation is available? Or could I (being a non-member) call up this afternoon and ask if a standard view was available at BWV from May 7, 2006 - May 13, 2006? Hypothetically speaking of course.....

Oh, and if I could, what is the number?

Thanks again.

Only members can call for reservations. Hope it works out for you!

Hi,

Welcome! If you know what type of accomodations you want: studio or 1 or 2 bdrms, you can request point totals for that. Of course, a range of dates is necessary to check points too. The going rate seems to be $10-$11 per point. To book a May vacation before 7 months out, you'll need to rent points from someone with BCV points available. Within 7 months, you can rent points from other DVC owners. You can PM with what you need, or post here, and I'll be happy to look up points for you:) I'm currently on vacation, but will check email later today. I own points at BWV and BCV, but I end up using most of my points. Someone, will definitely have points for you!
