Newbie Questions

Hi all -

First, allow me to say how incredible these boards are. As I rather impatiently obsess through the stages of my new purchase, I love reading all the information here. Awesome insights, opinions and a ton of humor too! I hope that one day I will be as knowledgeable and can help future DVC "members" - Im still not entirely sure if I will be a "member" due to the new restrictions but I digress.

So my questions are as follows:

I hope to close by 7/6. We are in ROFR phase currently. I have read on MANY threads that when your deed is recorded, you wait 10 days and start calling and select option "3". Can one of you please share who you are calling - I assume Member Services...is the number I should call be the same as what is on the website?

Also, I have a trip planned from 10/22 - 10/27 this fall for my big 4-0!! I have a cash stay booked at SSR in a studio. Once I am able to make a reservation...do you think I will be able to book SSR on Points and cancel my cash ressie in whole or in part? Such short notice I know.

Thanks again for all the wonderful encouragement and advice. Whether I am a full fledged "member" or not, I do certainly feel like these boards are a bit of a DVC family.

You should be calling DVC administration but there are several people/groups involved in establishing your account. One does contracts review, another inputs your account info and another loads your contract and points.

It's also important to understand that inventory for a cash reservation is entirely separate from inventory for points reservations. So even just canceling your current reservation doesn't mean that inventory becomes available for a points booking.

Most likely the only way you'd get a reservation on points for all those dates in Oct is either to pick up a room someone cancelled or to piece together a split stay at various resorts that have availability for a night or two.
