Newbie questions

Do they actually make dry fit underwear for men??? My hubby hates water rides bc he doesn't like walking around in wet unders afterwards. :p
Most athletic retailers would. Underarmour definitely do, Nike, champion, Adidas all would.
I'm not sure if Skins or Body Science are brands available in the US, but they're all compression/athletic type wear, and have regular bike short type shorts that are basically mens boxer briefs and they dry quickly.
DH wears them for Crossfit and they dry far quicker than the cotton ones he wears

How wet will we get on the water rides in IOA? Are there lockers for our belongings close to the water rides?

This is my daughter, my MIL and me after riding Bluto's Rapids. You see the light spot on my MIL shorts? And the light spot on my shirt by my arm? Those were the ONLY DRY spots on us! My shorts- completely soaked!! My daughter- completely soaked! We paid the money to dry off in the human dryer. :rotfl:We put everything, including our shoes, in the dry compartment in the middle of the raft and everything stayed dry.

They sure do! However, what about just wearing a bathing suit bottom? They look just like shorts anyways.

Definitely go dri-fit. I just got 3 sets of adorable athletic skorts and tops and JCPenney in the activewear dept, and with the sale and coupon, ended up paying about $10 per piece. Unfortunately, they mostly sold out over Mother's Day weekend. Playtex makes a great dri-fit bra called the Outgoer. I've been able to find it under $20 most times I've spent time looking online.

For the guys, they are wearing their nylon hiking shorts/pants, and dri-tech shirts, or their board shorts and rash guards. The boys are fine in the cheap Walmart style dri-fit undies. Hubby is heavier and prefers the (pricey) Ex-officio brand, but he also uses those for backpacking and foreign travel. They can be washed in the sink and dry quickly to be used again. Travelsmith has a proprietary wicking underwear brand as well, and I might get dh a couple pair of those to try out this trip.

I highly recommend some type of waterproof shoe for wet rides, too. The four of us have Keen hiking sandals. Yes, they were pricey, but I ended up buying barely used ones on eBay for the boys, and was quite happy with what I got. Teva has some great closed toe water sandals as well, and they start at $50 brand new.

Note: if you do decide to try out eBay for lightly used Keen sandals - try some on in the store. Keens have a strange fit - Dh and I needed to go up 1/2 size, the 14 yo wears the same size as his (HUGE) sneakers, and the 16 yo actually went down 1/2 size. In general, I believe the recommendation is to go up 1/2 size in all or most Keen shoes. Of course, that's probably the reason I got a pristine pair of Keen Whispers for $50 incl shipping - they are normally $90-100 in shops.

I totally agree about ExOfficio brand men's underwear. Their Give-n-Go boxer-briefs are my favorite. I have a draw full of them. Pricey but worth it, imho. Amazon has them on sale a few times a year.

I thought about that, but I wasn't sure if that was "Acceptable" in the park. I will have to talk to him about dry fit underwear. I know he has never worn any, so he might be a bit opposed to it at first.

In australia, wearing "boardies" (board shorts) as everyday wear is extremely common. So much so that Hurley, Rip Curl, billabong, quicksilver and a couple other brands made board shorts that look just like casual or dress shorts.
DH wore regular rip curl and Oakley board shorts in the parks and no one batted an eyelid.

My son and I wear board shorts on water ride days. It's totally acceptable. In fact most people comment that they wish they would have though of wearing them.

Okay, on the subject of men's underwear...Before our trip last October, I purchased the following for my DBF (now Fiance'). Quick dry cargo shorts and quick dry underwear from TravelSmith. This is a website I use frequently for specialty travel items (ie: packing cubes, RFD protection wallets, lightweight jeans, and quick dry underwear). There are several brands but they do work! Dry in a short time...no clammy, icky, wet feeling for hours.

And, Awalks, thanks for tuning in to get the scoop. Macraven is very knowledgeable. Your observations from your trip are spot on.

What worked well for us with the HP stuff is getting to the park about 20-25 minutes before scheduled early entry to get in line. We went straight to Forbidden Journey and rode it twice - once through the regular line and once through single rider (there was just DH and I). Then rode Dragon Challenge or Flight of the Hippogriff (this isn't necessary since Express Pass works for DC and the Hippogriff line is usually not bad so if you want to ride FJ twice through the regular line, that should work too) before heading to the Hogwarts Express. As soon as we got to Diagon Alley we went to Gringotts and rode that once. This way, we got all the rides in with short to non-existent lines and could then decide what we wanted to do (explore Diagon Alley, head back to explore Hogsmede etc).

And yes, prepare for soaking wet on the water rides.
