Newbie questions regarding cancellations

I hope to have my member number shortly
I have a DEC uy
If I'm lucky to get a 1 bedroom from 12/18 to 12/22
In the event I need to cancel prior to the 60 day mark but pass the banking point
I know could not use in that time and would loose them
If I banked my 2015 points and borrowed the 2016 points for the reservation if cancelled as above would they still be usable

Cancellation is 31 days prior to check in. After that the points used for the reservation go into holding. December use years have a banking deadline of July 31.

Borrowing:

• A member may borrow up to 100% of his/her allotted vacation points from their next succeeding UY to secure a reservation in the immediately preceding (current) UY.
• Borrowing points can only occur at the time of making a reservation, and only if additional points are needed to make the reservation. (In other words, members cannot borrow points arbitrarily.) With a December use year, as long as you cancelled at least 31 days prior, you'd have over 11 months to use those points more and over 7 months before they had to be banked.

I am a little confused as to what you intend to bank and borrow. Let's assume you are intending on making a reservation on May 18, 2016, seven months out from Dec 18 date of arrival, you must first bank any Dec 2015 points into the Dec 2016 use year, and then when you reserve on May 18, you can use those for the reservation. You will not need to "borrow" the Dec 2016 points to use them. They will be your "current" use year points for that Dec trip and you will use them when reserving on May 18 as "current" use year points for the trip; if needed, you could also borrow points from your Dec 2017 use year. Points you use and whether you need to bank or borrow are determined solely by when you will be at WDW, and when you call to reserve has nothing to do with that issue.

If you cancel the trip 30 days or less before date of arrival, all points will go into a holding acount and will have to be used by the end of the Dec 2016 use year and any reservation can be made using them only 60 days or less from arrival date.

If you cancel your trip 31 days or more before arrival date, all points go back into your account in the same state that they are in the reservation. The Dec 2015 points banked into the Dec 2016 would remain in the Dec 2016 use year and have to be used for a trip that ends by no later than Nov 30, 2017. All your Dec 2016 points would return to your Dec 2016 use year as "current" use year points and could be used for another trip in the Dec 2016 to Nov 2017 use year or banked into the Dec 2017 use year.

For that reservation the banking date really won't be a concern in the cancellation scenario. It's at the very beginning of your 2016 UY and you can use banked 2015 points (which need to be banked into your 2016 UY by July 31, 2016) or you could use current 2016 points or borrowed 2017 points. When you make the reservation has no affect on what points you use. What points you are able to use depends only on what the dates are of the reservation itself. So if you would bank your 2015 points and then make the Dec 2016 reservation using those banked 2015 points and any current 2016 points.

If you did need to cancel then as long as you do that 31 days or more from the check-in day the points will go back into your 2016 UY. The banked 2015 points would need to be used by Nov 30, 2017 or they would expire.
