I'm a newbie to this forum and have a couple of questions about some discount rate acronyms used and also how to find out more about them from a rate perspective.

I booked a reservation from April 18-26 (8 nights) on the HRH website under the SMSM rate. The rate was the same for the first 7 night and then discounted for the 8th night.

My questions:

What does the AP rate mean? Is it a special rate for annual pass holders? If so, how would I find out if this rate is better, do I have to contact the hotel directly?

For the AAA rate, does one just have to contact AAA to find out directly through them the rate? (I am a member already) and then if it's cheaper contact the hotel directly to apply the discount to the reservation and show the card on arrival? Or do I call the hotel directly to find out the AAA rate for this timeframe?

Thanks all, this forum is invaluable.

The AAA rates are not available online. If you call Universal, they will give you all the rates that you qualify for.

The AP rate is the annual passholder rate. You can check that online by using the code APH. They are only available a few months in advance, so the rates for April won't be up yet. APH rates usually aren't available for the high demand times, like Christmas, Spring Break and Thanksgiving.

calling on the 800 number and talking to the TM, would be the best way to get the info you need.

they can give you a comparison on the rates for the different discounts.

i have AAA but call the darkside number to get the info.

the TM will go in detail to help you decide what rates are out there that you are eligible for.

some of the rates can not be pulled up on the darkside hotel site.

MIL, military rates, general promo rates can vary by date of your stay.

only a % of rooms are alloted for specific coded rates.
once that quota has been filled, they are no longer available to book at with that code.
