Hi all, we just made a down payment for AKV. :cool1: The DVC rep told us it would take about 2 months to close. Does this sound about right?

For actual closing, probably. However, you should be able to make reservations right away.

I've never heard it take that long when you purchase directly through Disney  ; IIRC, you're in the DVC system very quickly. I suggest you call your guide back (or even the DVC sales office) and ask for clarification. Guides have been known to be wrong once in a while..................:rolleyes1 .

When you buy direct from Disney, it is true that you can use your points immediately, but it DOES take a bit of time before actual closing occurs.

What's the normal time frame from time of down payment to closing? I won't be able to call for reservation until Nov 26th so I have time but I'll call my sale rep and ask. Now she also told me my annual maintenance dues would not start until January since thats when the building is suppose to open.

Okay, well that clears a LOT up. Because your unit is not yet open, you can't close until after that date. You CAN, however, make reservations now.

So my name should be in system when I call to make reservation next month. She did mention the name of new unit but I can't recall name.

:yay: Just wanted to put it out there....

My family has room for WISHES on 1/11/08pixiedust:

We presently have room for six more.

Since my anniversary date is June. I hope they will let me bank my points (180) for my Oct 2008 trip when I call to reserve room.
Under the current banking rules (in effect until Jan 1, 2008) you can book up to 100% of your points during the first 6 months of your UY. With a June UY, you can bank up to 100% of your points between now and Nov 30, 2007. If you plan to call on Nov 26th, you will be able to bank all of your 2007 points at that time. Make sure you bank the points first, then make the reservation so that the banked points are available for use for that reservation. If you know you won't be using any points for travel during your 2007 UY (6/1/07 - 5/31/08) you could just go ahead and bank them now if you prefer.

As Diane explained, closing is kind of a non event. Your deed gets filed with the county and everything is official, but the more significant event is when they set up your contract info in DVC's system because at that time you can begin doing things like banking points, making reservations, etc. You should be in the system already. It happens within days of paying your deposit.

The other info that is significant is that your AKV Unit's occupancy date is apparently Jan 1, 2008. That means that the earliest date a vacation using your AKV points can begin is Jan 1, 2008. This has been confusing to some new members so I thought I should mention it. If you received developer points with your purchase then those can be used right away, in fact they are only valid for travel within the next 12 months, and can only be used to book 7 months prior to your check out date.

Thanks for the useful information. I do plan on banking 100% and will use next Oct 2008. So if I call DVC tomorrow, will they already have me in their system to bank my points?

It's quite possible they will have you in the system. It usually takes just a few days. When did you pay your deposit? Have you received your paperwork? If not, did your guide give you a membership number or contract number? I think you will need one or the other to identify yourself to Member Services. Just so you know, Monday mornings are probably the busiest time for MS so you will spend less time on hold if you call in the afternoon or wait until Tuesday.

Oh, and Welcome Home!!

Thanks... I put deposit down yesterday and was told I should get my paperwork within 5 days. I'll wait till Friday to give them some time.
