My new husband and I are just about to become DVC members at SSR. We're just trying to decide on the number of points we want to start out with. Currently, we're thinking 240 would be a good start, based on our needs, etc.

But my question to the incredibly learned personages who inhabit (so to speak) this board is this: Say that in a year or so, we want to buy an additional points on the resale market, and they wind up *not* being at SSR. Aside from the points-turnover-timing-banking-etc issue (which we've got a handle on), how would having a different "home" for the additional points (say BWV, for example) affect our ability to make reservations at SSR 11 months in advance? Would we *not* be able to use any non-SSR points at that time? (For simplicity's sake, let's say that both the SSR points and the BWV points renew in June.)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,

I am not that experienced, but I can answer your question. You will only be able to use SSR points for the 11 reservation window. If you purchase an add on at BWV (let's say 50 pts), then you could only use those points for the 11 month window at BWV...you cannot combine them with SSR. However, remember you can "bank" and "borrow" at BWV, so with a 50 pt contract, you could have 150 pts at BWV every third year.

Good luck

We just returned from WDW last week and purchased 175 pts at SSR. We focused on buying points to be used every two (maybe 3) years during low or value season. Sample vacations for us could be...

4 nights at Vero (1BR)
3 night DCL cruise
5 nights at SSR (1BR)

With 3 years worth of points...

1 night at SSR (studio)
7 night DCL cruise
6 nights at SSR (1BR)

In each case, we would still have points leftover or could stay longer if we opt for a studio or stay at OKW, which requires less points.

A lot of us do not use our points on the weekends, when considering points to buy you may want to take that into consideration. Your questions regarding res have already been answered. I started with 270 because the video they sent me used 270 as an example. I found 270 to be more than enough, sometimes it really was too much. I rarely use my points for weekends and stay in one bedrooms and up. 240 is a good start if you really love WDW.

You can wait until the seven month window and use your SSR points with whatever add-on you buy. That is what we hope to do, use VB points at 7 months to add to our current vacation scheduled in March.
