Newbie Question on Occupancy

I have a question on occupancy numbers (No, not 21 in a Grand Villa ). Say I invite my parents to go along next year. It would be: my parents, myself, DH and DS, 4. Would we need to get a two bedroom, our could we use a 1 bedroom and get a rollaway for DS. Or more likely, he would end up in the King bed with us!

My home is SSR, and we have 200 points.

If you're comfortable in the one bedroom like you described, then get a one bedroom.

My neighbor and BCV owner, asked member services this kind of question (they have 5 kids). She was told that while they hoped she wouldnt pile 20 frat boys into a studio, she was an owner and free to fit as she pleased.

DVC resorts do not have rollaways. A 1 bedroom has the king bed and the sleeper sofa. I think you would be more comfortable in a 2 bedroom, otherwise 1 couple is going to have to sleep on the sleeper sofa. Plus you would only have 1 bathroom. With a 2 bedroom, your parents could have their own bedroom and bathroom. DVC rules say the limit in a 1 bedroom is 4 plus 1 child under three but they don't enforce it, especially when the 5th person is a child.

Stacy, thanks for your quick reply! Because DS is only 4, space wise I believe a one bedroom would be ok (we're a close family!). Of course, a two would be better, but then I'd have to borrow.

Would they give/rent me a rollaway if I asked?

The stated occupancy for a 1 bedroom unit (and a studio as well) is 4 persons plus a child under 3. There is a portable crib (similar to a Pac 'n Play) provided for the child. None of the DVC resorts provide rollaways or cots, so that would not be an option for you. DVC does not provide extra bedding or towels to accomodate more than the stated maximum, either.

Your party would be over the official maximum. Some in your postion would just bring an air mattress/sleeping bag for the pre-schooler or as you suggested, have the young one sleep in the king with you. Disney does not do bed checks and many of the guides say what you propose is OK.

FWIW, my advice is to get a 2 bedroom if you can swing one. An extra bathroom can really make a big difference, especially with children. And it is just so nice not to have people sleeping in the living room/kitchen area. That way, there is always a space for those who may want to take a nap, stay up late or get up early. No need to leave the room or tip toe around for fear of disturbing the others.

But it's more like two bathrooms with separate vanities and a shower and separate tub. The only thing there is one of is the toilet.

Disney has placed an occupancy limit of four plus a child under the age of three in 1BR villas. No extra beds or linens will be provided.

As already stated, Disney is not likely to do a head count for your room.
