Newbie question, how many points do you have?

My DH and I did the tour on Tuesday at SSR and loved it, so much that we are 99.9% convinced to buy. Now the question is, how many points? In the past we have gone to WDW for a week (or more) each year for the past 6+ years using discount codes (public, passholder, Disney Visa, you name it!) and have stayed in the Deluxe hotels with a discount of about 40% or better. However I'm sensing that the codes are going to get harder to get and the whole code watching thing is getting a bit old , so here we are.

As I've been reading the posts and the Disney material, I've gotten curious. What's the "average" number of points most people own?

I'm not sure how accurate the poll will be on this site, since there are quite a few of us who are probably a bit more fanatical about Disney and DVC than the average Joe. I suspect we might be close to the average with our 380 points. Right now, you will also see a large number with the minimum points, since Disney seems to be pushing that right now.

I have 330 points - 165 at Hilton Head and 165 at BCV. I bought the HH points directly from Disney, based on a five night stay in a 2BR during the summer months. It works well for us to have less than a week at the beach, because we burn pretty easily, so a five day trip has always been plenty for us. If we wanted to stretch a HH vacation to a full week, we'd stay in Charleston or Savannah for a few days before or after HH. We adore Hilton Head - just a great, great resort and we look forward to many wonderful summer vacations!! A big plus is that it's a 6 hour drive for us.

My BCV contract was a resale, and I bought it because it was my same use year and not too expensive. Plus, I can have 2 five day stays at HH if we want to skip WDW for a year. Of course, I don't have the 11 month booking advantage at HH with the BCV points, but we've been successful with the waitlist this year, so that's a good option for the future, too. If we go to WDW, 165 points at the BCV will get us a 1 or 2BR for a few days, and we like to switch resorts, so we'd probably use an AP rate to stay at AKL or a DVC cash discount to stay at VWL for a few additional days.

I plan to add some more HH points in the future, and maybe some VWL points, too! I have discovered that I really enjoy going solo to WDW, so I might have to increase the points to factor in a couple of off-season trips for Mom!!!

We are going to fill our addiction in 9 days for another trip.............our 5th of 05...........and we said we were not going to go again til Xmas............we will never learn I guess

We have 150 SSR points & 100 BWV points.....We're hoping that this Contemporary rumor is true because we're looking to buy more......We're plagued by addonitis!

The reasoning is to preserve flexibility, as well as to get a chance to see in person how many points YOU think you'll need. The flexibility comes in that you could choose to own multiple resorts, if you wanted to. One large contract is more difficult to sell (if you found you needed or wanted to) than multiple small contracts, say one 1000 point contract vs. ten 100 point contracts.

The 100 and fewer point contracts at TTS tend to get offers within hours of being posted, AND get sold at a price premium.

I'm going to buy two contracts, for example if we buy 300 points I'll buy 2 contracts at 150 each. I figure that this will make it easier to pass them on to the kids at some point down the road. Also, if we decide to liquidate some of our points we could do it without selling the whole thing.

260 point all at VWL, first contract was for 196 it was a resale through the timeshare store, then I did a 29 point add on, same UY and resort, to bring me to 225, thought that was perfect, NOT, so added on again same UY and resort just another 35, but brought it to 260, which is perfect.

We just purchased 170 points at SSR 2 months ago. We've only gone like once every 3 years, but my parents know that once my sister and I have kids we'll be going a lot more often, so it's a good investment. I'm hoping we add on more points in the future, but we've never stayed at or seen any DVC resorts, so this will be our first time. I'm hoping that they like it a lot and want to add on more points eventually.

Oh, and I guess to actually answer your question about how many points, we are in the closing stages of joining DVC with 2 resales, both for BWV, one for 150 points, another for 100 points = 250 points.

If I had to do it all over again, I probably would have aimed for two 100-point contracts at 2 different resorts (probably BWV and OKW), and then if we really liked DVC, consider adding on another 100 at SSR or BCV or the rumored CR.

it is not important how many you have...........what is important is that you make memories with your loved ones that will last a lifetime.............and one can do it with 50 points or 1000000 points..............the point is we have all chosen to do it and that is what counts................

We have 185 SSR points. Over the past two years, we have spent 3 nights in an OKW studio, 4 nights in a 1 br at SSR and will spend 6 nights in an SSR studio in July banking a majority of our 2005 points for a 2 br stay in 2006.

Actually, the maximum is 5000 points per individual owner!!!!!!( ) But bongo59 is right - you can have wonderful vacations no matter how many points you own. Just let your budget be your guide!!!!!

We purchased 160 points. Our guide told us that 160 is the amount needed to do 1 bedroom exchange during high season. So that's how we decided. We will probably need to do a small add on (50, maybe) later but for now, we're happy with the amount of our points.
