newbie question for DL

Thinking of going to California for our first time summer '12. Would like to check out Disneyland. Do I need to get tickets in advance? If so, how far in advance?

Plan for later in summer rather than earlier if you want to visit the being built Carsland and new DCA entrance street.

For ticket there is a always a deal to buy them online ahead of time. You get an E-ticket emailed to you that you take right to the turnstyles. You are given a regular ticket at the gates in exchange for the e-ticket.

You can buy this right before you leave.

I would say the chance that tickets will go in in May or June is pretty good. But there may be a ticket deal for next summer too. So it's tough to say if you should beat an increase or wait for a special ticket offer. Pay close attention to the DL news this spring.

Someone I know went to California in January. They were going to go to Disneyland but when they got there, they were told they couldn't get in because they had to have tickets in advance? If I buy tickets before I go, I am guaranteed admittance?

Just like at WDW parks can hit capacity. But this is rare and usually only happens during Christmas week. So if true for your aquaintance it was likely on New Years day. Not any other day in January.


You can buy tickets at the ticket booths. But on capactity days they can shut down. I suggest buying them ahead of time because it saves money and time, not because you are at risk of not being able to get in the parks.
