Newbie Question - banking points when you have a ressie?

I have a newbie question. My wife and I just joined DVC and booked our trip for next April using our first allotment of points.

However, our use year is December, which means those points will expire before the trip. Does that mean that we have to bank the points in order to use them? Or are they safe now that they've been committed to a reservation?

You might want to take a look at your online account to see what points were used and what points might expire before next April.

If you have already made the reservation, points that were good for your 2012 Use Year were used. Any trip made between December 1, 2012 and November 30, 2013 would use either points banked from your December, 2011 UY, points current from your December, 2012 UY or points borrowed from your December, 2012 UY.

If you have points in your December, 2011 Use Year and have not banked them, then MS likely used points from your December, 2012 Use Year.

If you will not be using points for anything between now and November 30, 2012, I would call MS and bank those points into your 2012 UY and then reallocate them into your existing April reservation, freeing up the points used from your 2012 Use Year.

Thanks for that question because I was wondering the same thing. We just joined and our use year is Dec as well and we will be booking a trip for next May soon so I have been wondering how that works!
