I was considering to upgrade to the DDP from the Quick Service plan. Do you have to make reservations for all table service resturants?

I wouldn't say you have to, but its pretty critical to do so. The popular ones, especially anything with characters, will fill up fast. I've already made all of our reservations for our trip at the very end of August. You can always cancel later, but I highly suggest you take some time to look at menus (See allears.net) and read reviews and make some dining appts. The planning is half the fun!

I agree with PP. If you pay to upgrade I wouldn't risk not making ressies, as getting into popular places or character meals is pretty slim.

No way would I go to WDW with a DDP whether I paid for it or not and not make ALL my dining ressies.

Seen people turned away to much and signs at the parks saying no TS available to not make them.

Just today there were at least 10 couples turned away at 50s prime time while we waited about 10 minutes for our table.

I guess the question now is if we want to be held to reservations. Or...if we want to get quick service and then make one or two reservations and pay for those. I can't really imagine having reservations every day and have to be somewhere at a specific time....I assume that would be easier when we plan the trip a little more.

thanks for everyones responses!!

What I would do is figure out how much more it will cost you to upgrade. Then decide how many TS meals that would cover. Then decide if that will be enough TS meals. By keeping the QSDP and doing one or two TS meals, you still keep the mugs and get an extra snack per person per night. It should be more than enough food and you won't be tied to too many ADR's.

With the DDP you will loose the extra snack and mugs and will also have to pay more $ in tips. You may also need to purchase more food.

How long are you there for? I could do it on a 5 day trip but we stay longer and it is just too restrictive for us so I stick with QSDP and pay OOP for a few TS. For what it is worth, this year, with the ones I have chosen, it is still cheaper for me to pay for our few TS out of pocket than it would be to upgrade.

If you do want to do it and are worried about not having reservations, have you thought of trying to get all the ADRs then calling to upgrade (I don't know if you are past your 180 day window and that is the reason why you are asking)? If you can't get all the ones you want, I would personally stick with the QS and then cancel any that you don't care to use.
