Newbie Question About Cast Layard Pins??!!

Hello everyone!! We just got back from 13 wonderful days at WDW and the last two days my 6yo daughter discovered pin trading! As she was trading, we were told by a cast member that the ones with the little hidden Mickeys as well as ones that said "cast lanyard series" on the back were more sought after than the regular pins. She was able to secure 6 of them on the last day but, I can't find any information on them. She is very excited about pin trading and wants to continue to collect pins until our next WDW trip. Can anyone provide any information or links for newbies to get information?? Also...on the back of 4 of her pins, there is a number such as 1 out of 3 or 3 out of 5..etc. What does this mean???

The Cast Lanyard pins are the ones that are given to the CAST MEMBERS, not released to the general public. That's why they are more sought after. As for the "1 one of 3, "3 of 5", etc...I believe that means they are a series of pins. pinpics.com is a great site (I think that's the name of it). HTH

Cast Lanyard series pins can not be purchased, you must trade a CM for them, that's why they claim they are more sought after. Every person has their own most sought after pins. We call them "Holy Grail" pins. Mine is a Figment pin from the 1980s with Figment in a Top Hat and Tux. It's not a lanyard pin.
Each year they release a new set of lanyard pins, and each resort has their own series. The 1 of 4 is how many of that particular subset are. Two good places to go are pinpics and dizpins. I perfer Dizpins for my lanyard series info. If you go there today you will see a link on the first page to an update on the lanyard series.
You can get pins from any Disney venue. For example, I purchased some last week at the local Disney store in the mall. I also got a free pin from the Disney Movie club.

Remember, the key to pin trading is to have fun. Collect pins but also collect friendships. Both can be valuable.

Thanks for all of the GREAT information!! I have one more question..my daughter really wants this one princess pin that we could not find while we were there. Are they "ok" to purchase on ebay usually?? How do you know if they are authentic??

Which princess pin? A pinpics # would be helpful. There are a lot of people on this board who have been known to give away a pin or two.

Another way would be to try to trade pins via pinpics. To make it fair I would suggest lanyard pin for lanyard pin. But I don't know if you have any duplicates.

As for e-bay, you roll the dice. Check the seller's reputation from prior sales. But again, just because they were good last month doesn't mean your deal may not have some stumbling blocks. Since it would be a small dollar sale, you have less to lose.

You might be able to order the pin in question from Disney if you have the number and it's not exclusive to a specific event. If you got one of the pin stores, they might be able to find the specific pin if you know exactly what it looks like. Plus, different stores have different pins. Pin Trading in DTD did not have the Sorcerer Mickey 2006 WDW pin, but POP did(boy was I glad, as I left that day).
