Is there any penalty or any limit to how many times you can book then cancel BEFORE the 7 month window (at your home resort of course)? In other words, do I need to worry if I make a mistake and want to cancel a booking I make starting at 11 months until 7? or 6? Thanks!

No penalty.
Wow, really? no matter how many times you cancel? That's great to hear. It'll be the first time I ever booked with my points and I'm afraid of a typo. I'm even surprised Disney hasn't thought of a way to start charging small fees for this (maybe I shouldn't say this in public and give them ideas!)

I think 20 reservation modifications in the same year can get your account flagged as “commercial use”

But if you modify a few times a year, every year, there is no problem

That would be 20 reservations for others (member not listed on room reservation).

How many typos do you expect to have?

Truly if you are that concerned, or that likely to have many typos, maybe calling and have them do it is a better way to go.

LOL, not that many, more like typos + family/friends making me crazy with last minute changes...

I suspect their algorithm will catch any account with more than 20 reservations and flag it for review. I doubt the system is smart enough to track who was on the reservation. I wouldn't expect the account to be flagged as "commercial use" until it's reviewed.

Last minute changes other than dropping nights at the beginning or end of your existing reservation might never happen. It's not like a hotel where rooms are available even on check in day. And if you drop a night 30 days or less out from the start of your trip, those points go into holding and will expire at the end of the UY. Plus you can only book with holding points 60 days or less out.

What you basically tell friends and family is that the trip is booked and won't be changed. If they can't go they need to tell you sooner rather than later. And then they are never invited again on your points.
