I am 51 and was married for 30 years now divorced and happy with my fiancé now. Is it too old for us to be married at DW? I was thinking of the escape package or maybe a cruise. Any suggestions for me on locations or attire? Am I dreaming that I really could do this??

TIA
Denise

LurkyLoo had a bride with a very similar story on her podcast recently. They had an amazing cruise line wedding. Personally I think that if you want to get married at Disney you're never too old. Pick whichever package and location you like best and go for it! Where what you want: if you want the big princess dress, do it! If you've already done that and want something more casual or just different then do that - ModCloth has some really cool options for untraditional dresses another bride a couple weeks ago posted hers that she'll be wearing into Hollywood Studios for her dessert party because she's a S/D bride and can't wear her dress.

First of all: congrats!!!
If Disney is your dream, then do it! You couldn't be too old for you dream wedding! If you're afraid what others might say don't be - we're more than happy to help you out!

Definitely not! At least as far as Disney is concerned you can do whatever you want, wherever you want, and wearing whatever you choose! They won't bat an eye if you want a simple Memories event with 6 people or if you want 50 people at a Wishes event. I say do whatever you want (and welcome to the boards!! :goodvibes)

Not at all! You and your fiancé should express your love and celebration of your union how, when and where you want to!

We are a bit of an older couple, too. DH and I have been married for three years. I was 34 at the time and he was 45. It was a first marriage for both of us, and we knew that a traditional ballroom sort of wedding was not for us. We did an Escape package with a lunch off property and then a dessert party in EPCOT. It was an amazing day!

Happy planning!

As far as suggestions go, what's your style? Do you want an elegant, formal event; a relaxed casual event or something in between?

I like to describe our wedding as simple, sweet and pretty. We got married at the Wedding Pavilion. The only decor we had were some rose petals on the altar and our sand ceremony stuff; we had all our guest gather around the altar and participate in the sand ceremony. Originally, we wanted to do a candle ceremony involving everyone but I have some clumsy family members and was afraid of burning the place down. My bouquet was on the altar as well because I walk with forearm crutches. I used it in pictures, though.

The cake cutting was at Commander's Terrace at the GF. We went with the Elegant Scrolls cake and brought our own cake topper. We also brought a "And they lived happily ever after..." Sign that I got at Target for the cake table. Along with rose petals, my bouquet and my MOH's bouquet, that was it for decorations.

DH picked out what the guys wore. They wore khakis, white dress shirts and navy blazers. He also wore a tie. It was a nice, clean but not stuffy look.

There is a link to my unfinished planning journal ( embarrassed that I haven't finished it) in my signature.

Please keep us posted with what you decide!

You are NEVER too old to have your dream wedding!! Whatever you want to do, if it's within your means, do it and enjoy it.

I'm a first time bride and 46, my groom will be 59 on wedding day. We're doing a small Wishes wedding and are very excited and enjoying the planning. No one has made us feel anything but special about it...

Thanks everyone for all of the warm welcome wishes and your ideas. I never thought I would get married again. I thought that the first time would last a life time. It seems weird to be planning a wedding. I am thinking of an escape wedding but also like a lot of the items on the wishes too. I can come up with 18 if I had to so that I could have some of those things. I would love to have it during the time when it's all decorated for Christmas, but not sure if they would be able to get photos at night?? Does anyone have any pics of their DW weddings?

Thanks again
Denise

Where do I find the ModCloth and other peoples dresses? I don't want big ball gown but fiancé would like to see me in a white wedding dress preferably somewhat modest, lol

If you click on the "Planning Our Happily Ever After" link on the top of the page, it will take you to people's planning journals. You can see lots of ideas there. There are also quite a few stickies with ideas for hair and make-up, cakes, floral, etc.

In addition to Modcloth, you might want to check out David's Bridal or J Crew. They tend to have a number of tea length dresses.

Modcloth.com is the site I mentioned some great dresses and most members review them and many include pictures and their measurements to help you figure out sizing. Hope that helps you find your dream dress. Sent from my iPad using DISBoards There's also a whole thread on here where people have shown off their dresses a lot of the older pictures don't work but most still do so you can see what other brides have chosen to wear for their special day. I just bumped the thread up so it's easy to find to have a look through.

Congratulations!!!!:goodvibes

As others mentioned, you are never too old for a Disney wedding. Brides of all ages get married, have vow renewals, etc..at Disney World every day :)

I got married at the Swan, but I got married around the same time of year that you are considering-the week before Christmas. It is a wonderful time of year to get married in WDW!! Very low chances of rain & the park and resort decorations are breathtaking:cloud9: If you are looking for fantastic night time pictures, you might want to consider booking a fireworks dessert party at either Epcot or Grand Floridian. You can include a photographer and get some amazing photos!

How do you get to do that?? I didn't see any of those options for the Escape package. The latest you can get married is 5:30

I was a Swan bride, so we booked our Dessert Party through a different department at WDW, so many other DFTW brides should be able to guide you through this, but for Escape brides, I *think* the dessert party is an add-on that your DFTW planner can help you book.

Dessert parties typically don't start until around 8:00 or 8:30pm (depending on what time the fireworks are that night), so depending on where you have your ceremony, you might be able to pull off a 5:30 ceremony followed by a dessert party.

Fireworks dessert parties are fantastic!!! You can look at the different venue options on Carrie (Lurkyloo)'s website that she listed in an earlier post :)

It gets dark a lot earlier in December, so with a 5:30pm ceremony you should be able to get some shots after dark. You can add a dessert party to an Escape event by talking to your Disney's Fairy Tale Weddings planner.

Here are photos of all the wedding and reception venues at WDW. Note that Escape ceremonies are limited to Sea Breeze Point, Sunrise Terrace, Epcot Canada, Yacht Club Gazebo and the Wedding Pavilion: http://disneytravelbabble.com/disney-weddings/wdw-venue-photos/
