Newbie Observation....Are people obsessing abit too much about view ?

I'm not offended by your post, but thought I'd warn you that not all savannah view rooms have great views. Some view the people pens, and from some savannah view rooms you can even see the parking lot off in the distance.

Some savannah views are not that great. If you really want a great view as for Arusha savannah on Zebra trail down the hall. It's a longer walk, but the view is awesome. That's where we were last year. We were on 2nd floor right by a watering hole. DD will be disappointed we are in a poolview this year, but I have a few things up my sleeve :)

For me I like a nicer view cause I have a younger child - which mean that I spend more time in my room :) But that being said I don't think I would let that stop my trip from being great.......after all I am still at disney :cool1: I just think a good view makes the trip that much better. I won't pay extra for a view though so I don't let myself stress over it. :teeth:

A good view is the icing on the cake. But then cake without icing is ok too. I usually book standard view, as I would rather take the extra money and have some really good meals at other locations.

If I was going to Hawaii or the mountains I would pay the difference for a great view, at Disney I don't see that it is worth the extra money.

I do think people obsess over this though as once at WLodge I witnessed a woman having a fit at the Front Desk because a tree blocked her view of the lake. She wanted it cut down.

I saw a lady throwing a fit at the front desk at AKL and she wouldn't take no for an answer. The resort was booked and there wasn't any place for them to move and as I remember they had two rooms in their party. The CM implied that she had made so many requests and listed them back to her...close to the lobby, on 3rd floor, non-smoking, connecting rooms, etc that they tried to make as many as she could and all were met which surprised me. She still wasn't happy because they were far away from the animals. I don't know what happened...I left and when we came through the lobby about 30 minutes later, she was still there. She wasn't very nice either when she was talking to the CM.

We're staying at AKL and chose the standard view. We had the money to pay for the savannah view, but it just wasn't as important to us as having that extra $700-800 for something different. It just wasn't a priority to us, plus there are plenty of public views for us to go to :flower:

I understand what zdad is talking about, and to help answer part of his question, I have noticed while reading these boards that there are people who go to WDW for a vacation with the intention of spending little to no time in the parks. I personally don't understand this because WDW brings out the kid in me and I love park hopping while there. Apparently, some people go just for the get away and the atmosphere of the resorts, so they spend more time in the resort areas and on their balconies than most. Also, I have seen some parents mention they go for a family vacation so that their older children have something they enjoy doing and the parents can rest and relax and not worry about the kids. For these reasons I can understand why some people would obsess over view and location.

We spend so little time in the room...view is not a big deal to us :moped:

I understand that for some folks they may have saved this money up for a long time - it is a lot of money for them to pay and they are choosing a resort that hopefully would provide a special view of something - like animals or whatever. View shouldn't be an issue at the mods (unless you've paid for a water view - you should be able to see the water or whatever). I've paid for a standard view at the CR and I don't expect to see anything but the parking lot. But I've got a GREAT price and I can walk to the MK - that's all I want. But if I paid for a savannah view at the AKL I'd like a nice view.

I see nothing wrong with making a request (I'd like north wing at the CR but will take south) but getting down to a specific room could be a bit much. You're asking for disappointment. Guess that's why I like booking standard view rooms! :earboy2:

When staying at a deluxe resort the view is important to us. It's just my husband and I and we like to sit on the balcony and look at the castle change colors while sipping wine. It's a great way to end the night.

We've never paid for better view rooms. I don't think it's worth it since we're in the room from 11pm to 8am. If we weren't in the parks from opening til closing perhaps it would matter more. If and when we ever get to stay in the CR Tower then I will request MK view otherwise, I just don't care.

For a destination where most of your time is spent outside of your room, it amazes me how anal people can become about their room location.

Yup--that's me--ANALALICE! And you know what, I wasn't even thinking about requesting specific rooms until I started reading these dang boards! :earseek: Sometimes too much information is a dangerous thing! Now I'm obsessing about having reserved a garden room at the CR--I'm wracking my brain trying to figure how I can get a tower room, or at least a good garden room, and the reality is---HEY, I'LL BE STAYING AT THE CR AT THE HAPPIEST PLACE ON EARTH! The rest is all icing!
I think I'll go meditate now...

Personally, I usually book the standard view for us. We haven't been disappointed yet. When we had the parking lot view at CR north wing, at night you could see the fireworks at MK and we could walk to the Food and Fun Center and MK in no time at all.

When we stay at the Poly, even in concierge level we always book a standard view, because you still have a beautiful view of lush tropical landscaping and the pools.

At the GF our standard view was of the other gorgeous buildings and the pool area.

The standard view has been good to us! And we find the magic anyway!

Edit: If I was going to pay for a view it would definitely be the CR tower view, it is so close to the MK and IMHO the best resort view at WDW! But I haven't stayed at AKL yet.

Well I agree with those that pay more for a better view, as for my family, we are not in our room enough for the view to matter. We spend all of our time in the parks and pool. We are only in the room to nap or sleep.

I see a few things differently after reading all these threads....

Some people actually go to Disney witout planning for much time at the parks. Just a get away. Frankly, that never entered my mind, since our trips there are so rare. I can see that situation, spending much more time sipping a nice wine while looking at a view, being a central part of the vacation.

I see too that folks with much younger children, those that need supervised naps, would spend and above average time in the room as well.

I understand much better, thanks for the replies. If any of you are at WL June 19-25, I'll be glad to raise a glass with you. (Just not on my balcony, because is will probably have a crumby view :rotfl2: )

As for the lady that wanted the tree cut down.............I think she is oe of those folks who isn't happy until they are mad about something.

98 days and counting...................... :hourglass

Actually my favorite is this woman at the BW. She wanted the clown at the pool covered with a tarp, because it scared her child. Management finally moved her to the Inn side so she would not see it out her window. :sad2:

We stayed at the AKL in a standard view room in August which was what we could afford at the time. If you think your going to spend alot of time in your room the Savannah rooms are great. We saw many people sitting on there balconies looking at the animals {which come up very close to the hotel}. Our kids would have lasted 5 minutes doing that when they knew there was a huge pool to swim in. We did manage to checkout the lookout points the hotel has to offer and the area by the pool is great. A giraffe was eating 10 feet from us one time when we were there. Someday {when the kids are older 7and10} we would love to stay in a Savannah room but for now its up at the crack of dawn and don't stop till you drop!

ROFL :rotfl2: I think now I've heard it all! I can imagine how happy all the other guests would be to have the pool slide covered with a tarp. Priceless. Thanks Sammie. I needed a chuckle.

I am new to this board as well. We stayed at the AKL in a standard view room in August 04. We had a fantastic time. There are many places to see the animals. We were on the go most of time except to swim in the afternoon {100 degrees in the shade- not complaining I'll take it over weather in New Hampshire lately}. I don't think our kids would let us lounge on the balcony for too long so for us to pay for a Savannah room would not have been worth it. Maybe when they get older {7and10} they'll let us relax a little...ha ! I just made our plans for an April vacation. POR and CBR. both standard view. I know we will see little of the inside of our hotel rooms !
