Howdy~
In June, 2018, we are taking our first DCL. Wa-hoo!
Since we are "newbies", it is my understanding we will not be getting a lanyard for our card. So...

-is it necessary to have one?
-if so, which type should we bring?
- with the plastic sleeve hanging from the bottom or not?

Anything else I need to know about cards or lanyards would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks and cheers!

I like to have one but my husband and older son just like to put their card in a pocket. It is really up to your preference. Some people do not like to have anything around their neck. You would want one with a plastic pouch if you want to carry your card.

I bought one on the ship for myself (Star Wars one for $15 I think), but I bought my kids' lanyards at Game Stop/EB Games for half that price. My DH didn't want one. He just kept his in his pocket.

It's really about what you will feel comfortable doing. I used mine and one of my sons used his all the time, but my other son really was 'too cool' for a lanyard.

Also, just so you know, the KTTW cards do not have holes in them, like workplace security cards.

Thanks, I didn't know if you had to have one. I appreciate your reply..

Ok, I'll ask the family what they prefeR. So, getting a plastic sleeve is the way to go. Thanks for your speedy reply.

Also, while looking for your lanyard, if you like, try to bring some pins, they have pin trading during the cruise :jester:
They have to be original Disney pins :earsboy:

Just a note of caution: if you get a plastic sleeve, make sure it's the ziplock closure kind. We bought a lanyard for my kids the 1st cruise and it just had the slide-in kind of plastic holder; while up playing goofy mini-golf, a strong gust of wind blew his KTTW card right overboard! Lesson learned...not very secure! Guest services gave us a ziplock plastic holder when they replaced the KTTW card.

On our first cruise I got on Amazon and found the actual lanyard that is issued to DCL cruisers but after the first day we just left them in the room and I put all of the cards in my pocket. The lanyard hung down to around your waist line and was always in the way. It's really up to what you want to do though.

We always precut lanyards on Amazon with the plastic pouch. We always use Them and even have space to keep cash and drivers license with our room key. We like the security of having everything around our neck (under our shirts off ship) and having our hands free. Even though we have cruised before we'd still order from amazon because we don't like thick lay yards, we get a thin lanyard.

I find them very useful and cheap. Plus hands free and water proof pouch makes water activities easy.

Our family likes the Lanyards, DD are 6&9. We have them from 5Below and also from DCL. The DCL are adult sizing so may seem long for a child. Check that the clip connection is strong and secure enough for your liking when you purchase. I have larger heavy duty card holders that I picked up on Amazon for a Universal Orlando trip that stood up to the test with multiple everyday use.

Guest services has always punched a hole in the cards for my DDs with no issues or problems.

You do not HAVE to have one.

If you do not have any, drop by the DVC event (usually takes place on the first day you board). They are almost always handing out free gifts, and lanyards are often one of them.

You can also ask around. The repeat offenders are given lanyards every cruise (DVC, DCL Silver+, etc all give them) so will often have a few extra to spare. I literally have half a closet of the buggers since I never throw them out; they just make it back in my suitcase and lay around the house.

You can always get one from the gift shop as well.

I use a lanyard to have my card handy, my husband hates lanyards and won't wear one. I usually end up putting his card in mine. My kids have never carried theirs, just left them in the room except for port days. This year will be the first time they will have check in/out privileges at the club, so they will probably end up using their lanyards as well.

I like them. I put my Cove Cafe card in it and on port days my driver's license and excursion tickets for DH and I. Then once we disembark, it goes into my purse. When we return, I pull it out and my license and KTTW are handy to reboard. Now that you can just tap instead of swiping, you don't normally even have to pull it out of the pouch. They're adjustable in length and pull apart if it catches on something so you don't strangle yourself yet the velcro closure is sturdy enough not to come apart without some force.
