I am not new to the DIS boards or to traveling to Disney. I am also not new to the gain/lose yo-yo. But its January 1st and I am bigger than I've ever been. I don't want to live this way and I want to be HEALTHY for my Disney trip in May and for the rest of my life. I have a DS who will be 16 in 4 days and I want to be around to take HIS children to Disney.

I've made changes overnight. I have a food plan (changing how/what I eat) and I have joined a gym to start using the treadmill (I think that's about all I can do right now). I am a size 22 and would like to lose about 80 pounds in the next year.

I have seen so much success here in the past. I KNOW I will be supported here!!! Just wanted to say Hello :wave2: and start my journey with some understanding folks who might be able to help me!! :goodvibes

Welcome! You can definitely do it :) My husband was severely overweight (about 325 pounds) and he lost 100 pounds in less than one year simply by walking and changing his diet. He is now is about 200 pounds and has kept the weight off for over 5 years now and is possibly the most fit person I have ever met - it can be actually quite annoying at times :)

Congratulations on your first steps! Good luck on your journey!

WOW that is SERIOUSLY impressive!!! I have never been consistent with exercise so that was my new commitment. I really hope that once I start walking daily, I will start feeling better and can do even more. How much did he walk at first? I am going to start a treadmill program tomorrow, but have NO IDEA where to start!!!

You definitely can! My advice having lost 40 lbs in a year (190 to 150) is to make smaller goals along with the big one. An article I just read said you can't from A straight to Z, you have to go from A to B and then to C. Every time I failed before this, I was looking for a miracle and did a complete 180 on my lifestyle, and of course couldn't keep it up!

Find a meal plan that works for you. Whether it is weight watchers, prepackaged, or south beach. My husband and I play bar poker a lot, and I just couldn't stick to nutrisystem or south beach, so WW worked best for me.

As far as running, sign up for a 5k and tell people you are doing it! Once you have registered, you will feel like you can't back out. 5k seems like a lot now, if you follow Couch to 5K or Galloway's 5k plan, you will get there. I see you will be in Disney in May, so if Expedition Everest fits in your schedule, sign up for it! Not to mention, Disney has awesome medals. :thumbsup2

Welcome! It can totally be done! I started out in May 2010 at 302lbs and ended May 2011 at 181lbs. I've gained a little bit of weight back (35-40lbs) and am refocusing now, but I lost that amount of weight just by eating right, TRACKING MY FOOD! (via livestrong.com), and exercising. PM me if you want a partner! I would love to chat!

Thanks everyone!!! I have started a balanced diet--which is difficult for me. I have a 16 (tomorrow) year old son that eats EVERYTHING--and gets away with it!!! Of course he exercises daily. I have signed up at a fitness club, but have not even had time to go in for my initial session. I need to figure out where to get my exercise in during my day.

I am journaling all my food and staying within a certain amount of calories, fat content, carbs and protein. I use sparkpeople.com. I was successful before with this plan. VERY similar to WW. I have stuck with it all four days this week so far!! I am taking DS out for his birthday tomorrow night and I've already found what I can eat at the restaurant. I am very dedicated to sticking with my eating plan. I just GOTTA get that exercise started!!!

Maybe get a pedometer? I have found that I am VERY motivated each day to hit my 10,000 steps. You may find that you start doing little things like parking farther away from the stores and taking the stairs. Every step counts!

Smart words!!! While I admire your goals, don't try to take on too many changes at once. We often get into this "all or nothing" mentality with diet and fitness that sets us up for failure. My advice - pick 1 diet thing and 1 fitness thing and start with those. Maybe you decide to cut out/back on one bad food (say fried foods) and decide to add in one fitness activity such as walking for 30 minutes 3 times a week. Go with those, and after a few weeks when they become more of a habit than a challenge, start adding more things one by one.

This is a journey, not a sprint. You'll have great days, and crappy days. You'll have weeks you lose, and weeks you gain. It's all part of the process and being aware of that will keep you from being derailed by any setbacks. :)
