Hi guys!

Well this is my very first post here and it's also going to be our very first trip to Disney in exactly 2 weeks time!!!

My family consists of me (36 to turn 37 the day after we arrive!), DH (43) and our beautiful DS (4).
We haven't even had the trip booked that long as it was a bit of a last minute decision but seeing as DS doesn't start school till Sept, we figured what better time :woohoo:

We're staying for 2 weeks at Saratoga Springs with the DDP and are super excited!!

So, as we know absolutely nothing of what to expect (apart from the obvious), any tips, advice or anything else you can chuck my way would be sooooo appreciated!

Thanks all and I'm sure I'm going to spend lots of time asking you all annoying questions you've probably answered a million times already but please bear with me ;)

xx

Hi there!
Welcome! Hope you have a fantastic time! You'll enjoy the Dis, and you'll find out some really great tips for when you're over there!

Hi and welcome to the DISboards! :welcome:

My main advice is something that gets said alot on these boards - enjoy it and don't try to fit everything in because you wont, theres just so much to do. Try and research which rides/attractions will appeal to you the most.

Hope you have the most wonderful trip :goodvibes

Hi and welcome

One question, are your restaurants booked?

You son will love it, we took our twins last oct at 23 months and they loved it, we take them back this november and cant wait

Thank you both!!

Princess_ariel, yeah I've heard that a lot. We have already decided that it doesn't matter if we don't see everything....it's just more reason to book again! :good vibes

We haven't actually got a plan of action sorted as we figured we would take each day as it comes but I'm starting to wonder if thats wise?? :confused3

Hi Orangetiggs - Yes, we have the restaurants booked. The lovely lady we spoke to on the phone strongly advised we do this. Waaay too much choice there but think we got some great ones!! lol

Yes I know, he is so excited he can hardly sleep! Aww, I bet you can't wait to go back!! Too exciting :yay:

We take it a day as it comes too. Well except the first day, we always got to the Magic Kingdom on the first day, it's our tradition. I wouldn't really worry about a plan of action.

On my first visit, I read about all the attractions and knew which ones I was going to be comfortable with. heigh requirements may come into it and things like having issues with height.

Yay.. :welcome:

ask away. I am so excited for you all and positive you are going to LOVE LOVE LOVE it:banana:

My one tip is to make sure you have very comfortable, already worn in shoes.:)

Thanks pa, I'm glad to hear thats what you do too. It will be my birthday on our first full day so I reckon it definitely has to be MK for sure!!
I'll certainly check out the ride heights xx

Thank you queen disney

Yeah I totally kwym about comfy shoes in fact this has been quite an issue in our house over the last couple of weeks as dh is stressing that I'll do my usual trick of putting fashion before comfort then spend the whole day hobbling round on sore feet lol
Not this time though...I have already bought some flat merrell shoes that are meant to be very comfy and have some old trusted sketchers too :)
Just have to try and wear the merrells in now before we go!

Yeah fashion sort of goes out of the window..I have a whole different wardrobe for Florida that I would die if anybody saw me wearing here!
In fact I have on a pair of right ol' granny shoes, well in my eyes anyway, that I am currently making sure will be comfortable enough for when we go. LOL.

Welcome to the boards! :wave2:

Ooh yes, your first day HAS to be MK! there's nothing like seeing the Castle for the first time :goodvibes

Your DS is a lovely age to enjoy the magic, check out the ride heights Here

Welcome to DISboards, sounds like you have everything under control but ask if there is anything you need to know.:goodvibes

:welcome: to Disboards. THere are lots of people here (especially Wayneg :worship:) who are delighted to help with any questions you may have (not that you have long to ask :lmao:). A word of warning though - you are aware that you will have such a fantastic time this holiday will cost you vast fortunes in return visits for the foreseeable future aren't you? :rotfl2:

Have a ball! :woohoo:

Mrs TT

Thank you Piglet, that's really helpful :)

Just thought of a question about the heat! I am not exactly a lover of super hot weather and looking on the weather in Orlando for this week, it's getting to 34 on Tues which I am getting a tad nervous over!!
For those who have experienced this heat...how bad is it? I am thinking it will only be really bad when your stuck in lines?

:rotfl: Mrs TT, I know..I've already warned DH that we had better start saving now for the next trip........he thinks I'm joking!!

Hi debs here, sooo excited for you, it's really weird hearing things like queuing in the heat thar really gives me a de ja vu of being there, they almost all have fans that spray a mist of water as you go along to keep you nice and cool, I can't wait to go back now! Xxxx :goodvibes

hello and welcome to DISboards, I can almost feel your excitement. Your DS will be a similar age to my DD when we made our frist trip (some 7 years ago now!) and we noticed a real change in her. At pre-school she was really shy but when we came back she was full of confidence and even her teachers commented on the changes and her YR teacher said she wasn't the child that they had expected! I put most of it down to her interaction with the CM's at Disney, most of whom have a real talent of talking to children.

Try not to worry to much about the heat, just try to plan for lots of 'cooling down' breaks, such as for meals or to see a show or an attraction that is inside. I found a guide book invaluable for our first trip (we like the Brit Guide best but there lots of others available) as we were able to familiarise ourselves with the various rides and attractions and know the best places to take a break in.

Have you thought about doing a pre-trip report and sharing your plans with us (I'm naturally nosey!)?

:welcome: Sounds like you are well organised for a newbie! What restaurants do you plan to try out? I always feel its best to get them booked and if i wanted to changed my plans when i was there i could try and switch but if not i knew we had somewhere booked :goodvibes

Hello!

We're off for our first trip in August 2013, and we've just started planning! You are going to have such an amazing time!

Whilst I can't speak from experience unlike most people here, the two tools I've found invaluable have been this site, and The Unofficial Guide Walt Disney World 2012 guidebooks! (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Unofficial-...233X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1333312694&sr=8-1)

There's a fab one on going with children that rates everything from rides to food to character interactions from the view point of children, and gives you loads of handy tips. And another that's a colour guide to the parks, that shows you what the queue's are really like etc!

Possibly worth a look? They're quite cheap from Amazon, about £10.00, but definitely worth it!
