when getting off the ship for Nassau and Castaway Cay, do I need to have my passport on my self?

No, you need your Key to the World card and a photo ID. You can use your passport, but a driver's license is fine.

Absolutely no need for your passport at Castaway Cay. (You aren't going to be late from a shore excursion.) People will argue both sides, but I always carry our passports in a travel bag around my neck when we are on other excursions. If you miss the boat, you'll need your passports to fly home. (Yes, they will enter your cabin and try to find passports to leave with the company agent on the pier; however, I feel better having them with me.)

Nope I've never taken mine off with me. Just my ID and ship card. Our passports go in the safe as soon as we board and stay there until we disembark.

Same here, will not take them at Casaway Cay but definitely take them at Nassau. If you miss the boat, you will want to have your passport with you.
