I just read that you can only book up to seven nights when you book exactly 7 months out (non-home base). If we want to stay for 10 nights, do we have to call back the following day and add 3 nights to our existing 7 night booking we made the day before? Not sure how this works.

Thank you.

if you call back the following day, you would only be able to cancel the last 6 nights and book 7 nights from that point (for a total of 8 nights).

to book 10 nights, you'd need to wait 3 days after booking the first 7 nights.

Thanks. That seems odd, as I would assume they would get a fair amount of requests for a LOS of more than 7 days.

if it's not a high difficulty booking, just wait the 3 days and book all 10 nights with one call.

(but just think of how tough it used to be when you booked 11/7 months from check-out...you had to be on the phone every day for the tough bookings...)

Thanks Charles. Hope Boardwalk has the space in mid-December just before their Premium Season kicks in.

yeah, boardwalk for thanksgiving through new year's is a very high difficulty booking.

That sounds encouraging. Perhaps it was a mistake to buy in to DVC if it's going to be that difficult to book something. Will still have a couple of options as backup on where to stay if BW is not avail.

i hope you have a reservation made at your home resort already as a backup.
many DVC owners book their home resort at 11 months and try for something else at 7 months out.

if you own at VB or HHI, that won't work but maybe grab something at a larger resort like SSR or OKW if BWV is not available and then waitlist for BWV...

It is not difficult to book something at 11 months at your home resort unless you want concierge or something else very limited.

At 7 months yes it can be limiting at certain locations at certain times.

Early December is very popular for DVC members because the points are low and the holidays draw big crowds. Whenever I've gone during that time I've always booked at the 11 month window for BWV. I would suggest you have a backup plan.

We have two or three other properties as a backup. Our home base is Aulani.

That is tough. Good luck. OKW and SSR will probably be available right at the start of the 7 month window. I know that the WLV is a hard one to get into in early December too. I now avoid December as I find it too crowded for my taste. I go in mid to late January because of the lower points and quieter crowds. Of course I go in May and Oct too. There are a few times a year when that 7 month window is hard to get your top choice and other than all holidays, the first 2 weeks of December and most of October are the other times.

Since you can't book December until the 7 month window, just be flexible and you should be able to get something.

Even if you have to split stay at first, you can always wait list in hopes to get one longer stay.

Unfortunately, there are times of the year at WDW that are very difficult to get certain resorts at the 7 month mark.

Good luck!

Update: No problems in booking our first choice, BWV for Dec. 13-23, one bedroom villa. I am so ready for this since work was a pain in the butt in 2011. I am going to work the camcorder really hard this upcoming visit.

Congratulations - that is fantastic!
