We are a family of 5. Myself, DH, DS22, DD18, DDBF 18. We would like to stay at BCV for 3 nights next spring. Not sure of the dates yet. I have heard it is cheaper to buy-rent? points rather than making reservations. How do you know how many points you need to buy for the time you will be there? They have told me at guest relations that a 1 bedroom ill not accommodate 5. I have 3 young adults and think this can work. Any help on this would be appreciated.

You wouldn't buy points, you would rent them from a member. When you purchase them you buy a membership from DVC or a timeshare reseller and have that membership for the next several decades. When you rent them from a current member you get them for a one-time-only reservation.

Check out the Rent/Trade board to see what is currently available. If you are looking for a stay next Spring you should start trying to find rentable points now. If you are planning to go at a busy time (Spring Break/Easter) you'll want to get on it ASAP.

A one-bedroom sleeps 4. If you want to put 5 in a one-bedroom you will be responsible for providing the extra bedding. DVC properties do not offer roll-aways. I am not sure if you will be able to list all 5 of you in the 1-BR though, so that would mean that one of you will not be able to take advantage of Extra Magic Hours and anything else that requires a resort ID.

The bottom line is that a one bedroom at BCV sleeps 4, not 5. There are exceptions for infants, but this is clearly not the case in this situation. Additionally, ALL the people in the room should be listed on the reservation; to suggest otherwise is clearly against DVC policies. It is not up to the guest to decide occupancy limits. Based upon your party size you need either a one bedroom at AKV or a two bedroom at any other DVC Resort, period.

As stated by previous poster go to Occupancy Thread and read, read, read.

If you are renting discuss this as well with the member who'd handle the resevation.

Two studio units are an option.

Not to get into the occupancy issue, but there have been reports that MS has been allowing parties of 5 to book 1BRs. Personally I wouldn't do it (I like space!) but it apparently is being allowed.

While it's true that it MIGHT be allowed, just how are you going to sleep 5 adults comfortably in a unit that has one real bed and one sleep sofa? NO WAY would I attempt this with your group of people. I suppose you COULD have three in the king bed and two on the sleep sofa, but that's wierd too! If you want to rent a DVC room, I'd suggest you do at least a 2 bedroom. Even then, you might only have 2 real beds unless you get one of the elusive BCV 2 bedroom units that have 2 beds in the second bedroom.

There is a link to the point charts at the top of the Forum. The number of points required will depend on the dates.

If you book a DVC 1 bedroom unit through CRO/WDWTC, then the occupancy limit is 4 persons plus and infant under the age of 3. A portable crib (similar to a Pac 'n Play) is provided for the infant. That is why Guest Relations said a 1 bedroom at BCV will not accomodate 5 adults.

If you rent a reservation from a DVC member, you will be allowed to have 5 people of any age in a 1 bedroom. You are on your own to provide bedding for the 5th person. Some in that situation bring an aerobed or similar to accommodate the 5th person. You will also need to rent extra towels from housekeeping. A pack of 4 bath, 4 face, 2 hand and a bath mat is $6. There is no daily housekeeping for point stays less than 8 nights.

All 1 bedroom units have 1 king bed in the bedroom and a queen sized sleep sofa in the living room

The 1 bedroom units at AKV officially sleep 5 plus an infant (even if you book for cash through CRO/WDWTC). There is a sleep chair in the living room for the 5th person. The other DVC resorts do NOT have the sleep chair.

If you rent points and list all 5 adults on the reservation (which you should do), all 5 adults will be "official" and have resort IDs, no matter which DVC resort you choose.

I am closing the thread, since it seems to have turned in a discussion of occupancy. Those who wish to discuss occupancy may do so in the thread referenced in chalee94's post.
