Hi I just found this board. I have been looking into DVC for the past 2-3 years. I talked to a disney member on the phone today to explain everything to me. But as I am looking at this board, but I buy direct or resale. What is the main difference? Will I get the same perks if I buy resale? Sorry for newbie questions. Need to start reading all the other post. I was thinking of 160-200 points at Animal Kingdom. I have a family of 5.

If you buy resale, you can noot exchange your points to go to non DVC resorts (cruises, RCI exchange, Disney Collection..). So you can ONLY use your points to stay at a DVC resort. There is a huge proce delta between buying direct and resale. I bought direct but am looking to add on resale now. If I were to be coming in new, I would probably look to buy resale. You do lose flexibility, but there are many who argue that echanging your DVC points to go elsewhere is not cost effective. You can rent your points out for $9 to $13 / point and use the money to go on your alternative vacation.

not completely accurate.

you can still trade through RCI - you just lose the disney trades like cruises, wdw hotels like the poly and adventures by disney.

this is true.

huge price difference and the trading options you lose are not typically a great deal anyway. (even RCI trades - while they are an option for resales - are not a good plan for regular use.)

take some time and look around the DVC boards for a few months -read random threads and do some searches - before you get too serious about buying in...

Thanks chalee94, I was not aware that you kept the RCI exchange. Though I could really care less. I suspect the "good" RCI exchanges are difficult to get and need to be planned far out. Again, thanks for th correction.

If you buy direct or resale, the only guarantee is that you can book at your home resort before non home resort owners. Disney can and has changed the rules when ever they want and there is nothing that we can do about it.

Take the holidays and read, read, read before you spend thousands of dollars on a product that may not be what you think it is.
