Lets say you bank all (100%) of your 2006 points less than 6 months from your Dec uy, are you limited as to how early you can use them again? I know you would have until Nov. 31, 2008 to use them, but is there a restriction as to how early you can use them in that period of time. In other words, is there any sort of restriction on how soon you use your points after you bank them? I'm sorry i'm being redundant, just want to make sure it makes sense.

If you have a December UY, you can only bank 100% until May 31. It drops to 50% from June 1 - August 31.

So let's say on May 31, you bank all of your 2006 points. You can use them only for reservations from December 1, 2007 until November 31, 2008. You cannot borrow them back into the 2006 UY (12/1/06-11/31/07).

It helps to make yourself a Use Year chart for your particular use year month.

A December UY chart looks like this:

Use Year.....Vacation Dates
2006.....Dec 1, 2006 thru Nov 30, 2007
2007.....Dec 1, 2007 thru Nov 30, 2008
2008.....Dec 1, 2008 thru Nov 30, 2009
2009.....Dec 1, 2009 thru Nov 30, 2010
etc.

When you bank points you move them from one use year to the use year directly below.

When you borrow points, you move them from one use year to the use year directly above.

So in your case, you bank your 2006 points. They are now part of your 2007 Use Year and can only be used for vacations between Dec 1, 2007 and Nov 30th, 2008.

Thus to answer your question, the earliest you could use them would be for a check-in date of Dec 1st, 2007.

Okay I am confused now. I am going to bank my 06 UY points by the end of this year....can I use them for our Jan. trip. So if I called and bank them today...can I call next week and book my Jan. trip with those same banked points??THanks

What is your use year? To answer, we'd need to know that.

oh okay. Our UY is Oct. We want to plan a trip in Jan. of next year....thinking we would bank our points this month and use the banked points for that trip. We get another set of 300 this coming Oct.

Yes, points banked from your Oct, 2006 Use Year may be used for reservations between October 1, 2007 and September 30, 2008. They could not be used for travel before of after those dates.

You can bank those points today and also make a reservation for January, 2008 during the same call to MS.
