We are arriving the afternoon of 07/07 for our first trip with DD 15, 9 and 7 for seven days at AKL - I see T Storms are predicted - if they are right - what do you suggest we do for day one?
Thanks

From what I understand, that is a general forecast for Orlando during the summer... nice in the morning, storms roll in during the late afternoon lasting an hour or so, then clear for evening... We will be there from the 3rd - 13th and we plan on NAPPING during the afternoon rains... lol... but, the best laid plans, so they say...

Just plan a bit of rain each day, and you will be set.

Have fun!

Typical Summer in Florida weather!!!!!

EXCEPT this hasn't been a typical summer in Fl this year. Plan for the worst, hope for the best!

Have fun!!!!!

There is no way my kids will be napping after finally getting to WDW lol They'll be napped out from the plane ride I'm sure. lol
Thanks have fun too!:smooth:

we went june 8th to 15th - it was supposed to be raining everyday - weather channel had it as "thunderstorms" all week !!!...there was one during the day... and several at night when we were already asleep - only one day were we caught in any rain - and we borught ponchos anyway so it didn't matter - someone from florida on here said it best - to CYA the weather services put "rain" in all of their daily forecasts for florida at this time of year

you know why god created economists? it makes the weather man look good

lol Okay - I did pick up some poncho's to take with. I think I'm as anxious as the kids. This is our first ever vacation! Woo Hoo!

Definitely bring ponchos; but don't be surprised if you don't see any rain at all. Even though it may rain at MK that doesn't mean it will be raining at EPCOT or AK. I've seen it rain on one side of the Monorail and not the other. That's Florida! And remember that the Weather Channel is a very general forecast. Have a great trip!

We go every year in July, and the forecast always has T-storms in it. Like some of the other posters have stated, you never know in Florida! Bring your ponchos and have a rain plan. The T-storms typically come in the afternoon, and then the weather clears for evening. Go do some shopping or to one of the resort arcades if you're not planning to nap. If you're at the park, just go to rides or shows. Anything under cover will still be operating. If it's raining at night, Spectromagic generally won't run, but they usually don't make the announcement until the last minute. I think I can remember seeing the fireworks at MK in the rain last year. And Illuminations never is cancelled by weather. Last year we stood under cover and watched it in the pouring rain. It was pretty neat - almost everyone else had left because it had been raining all night so it was very easy to find a spot. And what made it really awesome was watching the lightning flashes during the show! I'm sure Fantasmic would be cancelled if it's lightening, but I don't know if there is just light rain.

Disney closes any pools or water parks the minute lightning is in the area. If you're at a water park, just get your hand stamped and come back later in the day. Chances are the park will have cleared some by then and the lines won't be as bad anyway.

You'll have a great time no matter what happens with the weather. Our very first trip was right after Hurricane Erin roared through, and it rained almost no-stop the last few days we were there. We still loved Disney so much we bought into the DVC and have come back every year in July since!

I live near the park and you have it just about right on. When it is lightning, this is the concern. Get out of all pools and get under cover. Stay away from windows as it will come through. Stay away from trees as this where most get hit. Few years back there was a family from Iowa down for a family reunion in Daytons Beach. Three of the eldery women went for a walk on the beach during a light rain storm and were hit by lighting. Very sad, but somthing like it happens every year. Open areas are not good.
Have your slickers and throw a couple gallon size ziplocks in your pack back to protect cameras, cell phones and the like.
If it is raining in the morning, sleep in as this will be for most of the day. The PM rains come and go, but will be harder then anything you see up north. It can be weird as I drove on one side of the highway OK. Traffice going the other way had their wipers on.
Want perfect time of the year? End of October to January.

Thank you - lots of good advice there. I'm in town and if lightening actually comes down here its too bad to consider going outside but I've heard of people being hit. Very scary.
I sure wouldn't mind one day of sleeping in and the kids can stay up late but they sure aren't morning people lol

Two words I never paid attention to in Illinios was Hurricane and Tropical Depression. Down here you better pay attention. Since this is such a high Tourist area most Hotels, Resorts and the like help make sure everyone is aware of any threating weather approaching.

Local Channel 6 has the best weather forcasts and it comes on at 11:00 PM It doesnt hurt to just tune in once in awhile to see what is goin on. The thing about Florida is they can predict 40% chance of rain. Some areas will get an inch and other areas will be bone dry.
You are safe as Disney has a good warning system so come on down and have a time you will never forget. I promise you will want to do it again and again. Try to make it down at Christmas if you want a true Christmas experience. It is my favorite time at WDW

You might be surprised. :) WDW wears the best of us out, and even my friend and I (two 21 year olds) took afternoon naps because we were so tired. :) :) Have fun!

Just watch the weather on local six o'clock news. Weather looks good next week. Less then 30% on five day outlook.
I am at the WL on Monday and planning a full day of fun.

Thank you! I sure will be in the mood for sun - going to rain here the next few days - and supposedly during our fireworks and my cookout too :-( lol
