Well. We had to pay taxes, close on a piece of real estate, pay for other things, etc etc, so we did not have liquidity before this week. We own at VGF, RIV, BLT and all the points we have are basically unrestricted (can use at all DVC resorts).

Originally had been thinking we'd look for a decently priced VGC resale to use mainly at DL. Well, that didn't go well.
Then started looking into whether VDH might work, and while I'm looking to see whether the incentives might make sense tomorrow, at least in the next few years we should probably be ok to book stays at VDH and see how we like it. Likely going to suffer some sticker shock there.

We just got back from Aulani and really enjoyed it - but we live on the east coast and it's still a long haul no matter how you slice it. So maybe we'd look at some sort-of SAP? I guess the candidates are BLT, VGF, RIV and maybe AUL? Should someone be trying to talk me out of AUL?

I would have a hard time buying a non WDW resort for stays at WDW.

So, for thst reason I would not want AUL. While the 7 month window is what we currently have, nothjng says that has to remain which is another reason I want a home where I am most likely to use the points.

Maybe watch the VGC market over the next several months? It’s too much money to not be 100% on the purchase. I’m sure a decent VGC deal will pop up once in a while. The new unicorn contract!

Might want to just pick up some more VGF points for SAP since it has low dues, and the resale price is pretty low right now with more years than BLT & AUL.

We have "enough" WDW points - I could see us going to Hawaii every 2-3 years and renting out points if we ever have any extra (this has not been a problem for us!). That's why AUL is in the mix.

VDH isn't exciting to me, even with the incentives, and I'd really wanted a small-ish (<200 points) VGC because we have family in SoCal so I could see us going there pretty frequently.

We have pretty good success getting AUL and VGC at 7 months - AUL was Oceanview rooms only (ouch) by then. VGC we've only booked since COVID and we were able to get a room at around 7mo. Which is why I am wondering if I really want/need another home resort. The only home resort priority I'd like beyond what we already have is ... VGC and maybe AUL because the point chart is so painful to be in an OV room all the time. Don't get me wrong, it was amazing, but we would have had a great time without a view too!

@DVChris - I think I will do that. I'm hoping the people with money to burn have bought their VGC contracts, and in the meantime, I'll use my WDW points to book at VDH and/or VGC and see how it goes.

I don't see why you'd buy AUL when you aren't going back to Aulani and your goal is DL. Your choices are pay a lot of money for VGC/DLT or try to use your unrestricted points. If you don't want to pay DL prices, you can add on SAP for WDW and try to use unrestricted for DL. Maybe it will work?

If your goal is a rare trip to Aulani here and there, it's not hard to rent AUL points. You don't have to buy a whole contract for that.

Yeah. That is what I am struggling with - we actually went to Hawaii every 3ish years pre-covid, and more frequently before kids and with money. We had a great time on our trip last month (booked using WDW points), and I would be up for going to Hawaii again as soon as next year or the year after. So just on the cusp of "maybe worth a contract to use every other year so we aren't always booking OV rooms."

Sounds like you aren't really into VDH so if I were you, I wouldn't spend money there. Is Aulani typically hard to get at 7 months? If not, I probably wouldn't buy there either. If I were you, I'd probably wait a while to see if a VGC pops up. I've seen a couple come and go this past week though I think just 1 remains.

VDH isn't really moving me. I could change my mind if we check it out in person. The VGCs that have been popping up this week are asking around $300 pp. Ouch.

Aulani is doable at 7 mo (I got a week in a 1br OV at under 7 mo, but it was a 1br, and it was OV. It was a spectacular amount of points.) I think AUL resale is pretty low, and could access cheaper room categories at 7+ months.

The Magical Beginnings promo w VGF is really looking pretty attractive… at 200 points it’s $175pp …

Now I’m contemplating:
A - VGF direct?
B - AUL resale?
C - Wait for a VGC resale?

This is my DH reaction as of right now: D - none of the above
🧐

At $300 pp it still works out in your favour or at the least, equal to VDH. You're just paying a bit more up front. IMHO VDH is nowhere near the quality you're getting at VGC.

C. VGC will return to the resale market after this mad dash. If you want 11 month gauranteed Disneyland (and why wouldn't you?!), I would wait or pay the premium. I paid $285 pp near the peak 2 years ago and I'm pleased as punch staying here on my third trip. I paid that estimating that VDH was going to be $225 back then.

The thing about VDH is that the price will never be lower than the initial incentives for current members. There will still be incentives until it sells out, but they will gradually raise the price.

Having said that, if you are on the east coast and not really feeling the vibe, there is nothing wrong with passing on it.

Might just want to wait for Poly 2.0....... and save up for 300 points direct. :rolleyes1

Because we already have BLT and VGF, so why not make it a trifecta?
Because we have not yet used our points to stay at Poly?
Because we are in AUL withdrawal?

I will probably eat my words but - I don't think we will add another WDW home resort. Also: Riviera is DH's favorite resort (that we've stayed so far).
