New Yorkers Restaurant Review

Born and Raised in Brooklyn. I think this could have been worded better but I think I sort of understand where OP is coming from. I have a lot of friends who moved out of New York and they say they miss the food. I think it's maybe because there is such variety and since New York is known as for having lots of different cultures a lot of the restaurants showcase those foods and does fusion and something like that? Idk trying to figure that out. Anywho my vote is for Biergarten. Every time I've gone they have delivered. I love their tomato salad which has so much flavor and their soups also are packed with flavors and deliciousness. I also love Be Our Guest (recommend their shrimp and scallop dish) I've never had a bad plate there. Also Tokyo Dining and Colombia Harbor House for a QS.

Via Napoli is fantastic.
Victoria and Alberts.
Haven't been to Monsieur Paul's but when it was the Bistro de Paris it was fantastic.
I like the bakery in the back of France.

I don't think New Yorkers (born and raised in the Bronx - still live there) have cornered the market on exceptional food - it's just the ability to get the many authentic cuisines offered here that is unique.
That said - I think the one thing you will find is that people from NYC don't go into sticker shock at the price of food in WDW as most of the rest of the country does. We are used to New York pricing - Disney is on a par with that.

I'm from NY. Please don't give us a worse reputation than we already have.

I think what you meant to say is "I'm from NY, where we're blessed to have a plethora of restaurants, which in turn has elevated our taste for cuisine and turned us into fairly big food snobs. Can anyone recommend some solid restaurants that meet my taste?"
You worded this much better than I tried to lol :)

Now this is not meant to disparage my fellow Disney brothers and sisters from the midwest, south, Texas, west, and further abroad but us New Yorkers have a particularly refined culinary pallets. When I see Liberty Tree Tavern ringing in boatloads of positive votes I just shake my head (come on people your better than that!).

With my prologue aside I ask of my fellow New Yorkers (Jersey and Mass feel free to join in as well) to give a shout out to their favorite Disney restaurant.
I am from Massachusetts:rotfl2::dancer:popcorn:::drinking1:wave2: and I am guessing that you did not really mean insult people. So I will say that my favorite restaurant is Boma, great food, great resort

I think my question to the op is have you eaten in any other regions/states? Everywhere we travel we find something unique to the area that we love and are thrilled to have tried. Personally I look at it not that NY has the best food in the US, but that each region has things they are better at. IMO the attraction to NY food is that there is a ton of different types of restaurants available in such a close proximity which most of us do not have that readily available to us.

I'm not going to bother offering my opinions on the food - as a Midwesterner I'm sure my opinion wouldn't count with you anyways.

lol.

Don't be haters, everyone. not everyone can have pallets that look like this New York Pallet. born and raised in Brooklyn, lived all over the country, now living in MA.

I may be tres sophistique but when I am at Disney atmosphere, theming, characters and other factors have as much to do with my favorites as food. Liberty Tree for lunch is an old favorite of mine though I haven't been in years (the dinner doesn't appeal.) I like CA Grill, Ohana (which seems hit or miss) both for breakfast and dinner (breakfast more for ambiance and characters, dinner I enjoy the asian meets brazilian bbq approach), Coral Reef (another one that has a lot of haters but the food has always been good, love the atmosphere, warped amusement by eating fish while watching their relatives swim), Boma, and doing a ton of character breakfasts. I LOOOOOVE breakfast and it's kind of hard to screw up.

pallets are so last year, it's all about the shiplap!

With people becoming more of interested in cooking, New York is no longer the food Mecca it once was. Even Indy has some wonderful places to eat. It's not all just fast food and chains anymore.

Oh it's nyc pretender. Is that you Hillary!?

Oh, OP, you're not supposed to tell them what we really think ;) Just kidding.

For me nothing comes close to NY bagels or pizza. Other than that, it is just about the variety and access to all types of cuisine.
We love visiting my parents in Portland, Maine...great little city for food!

I also think there is this stereotype that all Midwesterners are sitting in a church basement eating slop out of a crockpot.
Have you read the budget boards? LOL People make some nasty stuff!
On the same note, I know plenty of picky NY'ers than prefer to eat at TGIFriday's!

One thing I do notice is people complaining that tables are too close at certain restaurants. These make me chuckle. Obviously they have never squeezed into a table that actually had to be moved to sit down at a little NYC restaurant. I've never seen seats that close together at WDW.

WDW is a theme park that has to cater to the masses. It is mass produced food that they try to do their best with.

Ok I have to say I hate when people lump me in a group based on an often wrong version of where I'm from.

New York and Massachusetts are states. There are a wide variety of people in them and a wide variety of places. Even if what you stated was true for all of NYC it isn't for all of New York.

Me personally I love the food at WDW. But my area does not have a huge number of restaurants. We have a rule when we go to new places not that we can't try chains but just nothing we can get back home... which leaves MANY chains available to us. Like everything that isn't Applebees, Arizona Pizza, or 99... I seriously think I ran out of chain places (sit down table service only not counting McDonalds etc) in our entire county. Mabye.. is Koto a chain?

WDW was the first place I ever had hibachi for example because at the time we started going there wasn't a single place for that (until Koto came in which as I said I don't even know if its a chain or not)

JaJaJaJa Ahhh! I got on my high horse and had a typo!!!!!!

Not hating on the rest of the country at all... I love Big 10 football, whats more fun than Austin or Charleston, and skiing out west kills the east!

But New Yorkers know good restaurants.

one of my favorite parts of planning a disney trip is planning my meals. My last trip 2015 I gotta say I was a bit disappointed. Artist Point my all time favorite was meh, 'Ohana items were hit or miss, and chefs de france was the most dumbed down French food i've come across!

I'm coming back in 2017 and don't want whiff on food choices again!

Please help!!

With that said - I THINK what you meant is that people's taste and expectations of food seem to vary regionally. I enjoy biscuits and gravy. It's something I don't get too often but when I do, I like it. I may find the Wave's version good, but someone from Alabama may scoff at it. Same thing with Lobster Rolls. I love the Boardwalk Bakery's lobster roll, but someone from New England may have a different opinion.

Sure, Disney_Problem, I can, but keep in mind that it's all arbitrary and subjective.

We enjoy Narcoossee's. It's delicious, the offerings are top notch and it has a relaxing atmosphere. We love sitting by the window and watching Wishes as we dine.

Artist Point is another great spot. It doesn't have the ambiance that a Cali Grill or Narcoossee's has, but the food is delicious - especially the foods. It's more rustic, though. We weren't sure that we'd like it but we truly enjoyed our meal.

We love Rose & Crown. We're part English, so we always enjoy a nice pint and fish & chips. It has a classic pub feel to it and we love eating outside when the weather is nice.

Beaches & Cream has the best burger/patty melt on property - IMO. It's like an NJ diner had a baby with a Jersey Shore ice cream shop.

I haven't dined at Via Napoli, but fellow NY'ers like the pizza. Personally, I enjoy Wolfgang Puck Express Pizza. It's no Rose's in Penn Station, but it's fresh and very filling.

Edit: Just thought of this funny story that can hopefully lighten the mood of this thread...

We were on the bus and got to talking with a family from South Dakota. We asked what they've done, what their plans were, etc. The dad looks up at me and goes "I'm trying the new coffee spot in Magic Kingdom today." I looked at him bewildered. "Starbucks?" He smiled ear to ear and goes "yeah! That's the one! Been dying to try a Starbucks coffee everyone has been talking about."

He had me intrigued.

I didn't mean to come across rude, but I replied "you've never had Starbucks?"
"No, we don't have any by us. They have them in New York?"
I laughed and said "you can't walk 10 feet without seeing one."

He was in amazement. I happened to go to Starbucks that morning as well. I discovered my new friend staring at the menu. He planned on getting coffee, but couldn't believe all the choices. I helped him choose the best option based on his tastes and used a snack to treat him to his first Starbucks.
Apologies for coming off crass! And yes you capture thoughts in a more eloquent way! And i'm ok with being a food snob... but i'm not a 1 trick snob I promise! Haven't found a cuisine I don't enjoy... Stop profiling New Yorkers with Pizza! Thanks for the tips!
