New Yorkers Restaurant Review

Now this is not meant to disparage my fellow Disney brothers and sisters from the midwest, south, Texas, west, and further abroad but us New Yorkers have a particularly refined culinary pallets. When I see Liberty Tree Tavern ringing in boatloads of positive votes I just shake my head (come on people your better than that!).

With my prologue aside I ask of my fellow New Yorkers (Jersey and Mass feel free to join in as well) to give a shout out to their favorite Disney restaurant.

So glad you wrote this post, I'm laughing.
But you are so right. We aren't Ruby Tuesday...or Red Lobster....or Olive Garden....and definitely not Dominoes!! Give me some Cull & Pistol, Catch, Scarpetta's, Tao, Patsy's Pizza, omg I could go on forever on fantastic NYC restaurants. Now THAT should be an OTT thread!
I'm exhausted now but will chime in to some of my fave restaurants at WDW.

Sincerely,
Your local New Yorker

4 years in DUMBO (no relation to the elephant) after a 4 year stint in Hells Kitchen!

Part of my problem with Disney restaurant reviews is people lump to much nostalgia.

I know I said I'm tired, but this is THE BEST THREAD EVER. I'm laughing so hard at all the responses.

OP, I totally and 100 percent get what you are asking. I knew people would freak out on here, BUT- to my enjoyment, everyone seems to think it's funny (in their own way).

FYI, I am born and raised in South Carolina- but a New Yorker since '99. Does that make me a half-breed? A muggle? Mixed-taste?

Oh man, this is awesome. I had a rough day personally, and this is a great way to end it. The whole pallet/palate thing everyone is commenting on is hilarious.

I think a better way to put the question was to ask that " anyone who has access to a wide variety of restaurants both quality and cuisine-wise, what are your favorite WDW restaurants?"

You have got to realize that many people do not have anything but fast food where they come from. Maybe a Ponderosa. To anyone in that situation WDW is ding heaven. I get it. My home town was like that.

But living between DC in Baltimore we have a huge selections of restaurants to choose from so we do not make that
big a deal of dining there. It is just a matter of where you live.

I lived in a city where the most exciting thing food wise was an Applebees. Needless to say we haven't eaten at one since we moved back to the Iowa City area.

I get it, I do. I'll probably catch heat for this but sometimes I check reviewers to see where they are from- to gage their standards of food choices and reviews. People from different places have different standards and tastes in food. There is NOTHING wrong with their tastes/choices- but, I try and pick restaurants from reviewers with similar restaurants I think they have in their area. This doesn't mean they don't travel- duh! But I'm doing the best I can on this site to gage opinions, and make my own choices. Thank goodness for food photos, that helps A LOT!!!!

In terms of the lumping.....
The reason they lump it together is because that's part of the experience of eating in Disney. Otherwise, why in the WORLD would you pay the crazy prices for mediocre food?
The good news, is that they are updating a ton of restaurants in DTD (Downtown Disney aka Disney Springs) including bringing STK there, which kicks you know what. STK is an incredible restaurant. Also, they feature Morimoto, which is also an insanely good restaurant. And there's more still being built and brought in. I'm so excited!

Part of dining at WDW is the experience with it. I don't eat breakfast and could care less about it- however, I have a 5 year old. On our last trip I sucked it up and went to a character breakfast meal at O'hana. I've never done anything like that, as I'm a cup or two of coffee girl and that's it----- O'hana breakfast was GREAT. The food was really really good. Coffee- excellent. Experience? Over the top. I loved everything about it: the characters (we love Stitch and co), the Poly is gorgeous, the view we had (window seat), and wonderful staff. It's certainly not brunch at Sarabeth's in Manhattan - but the food was very good. Everything super fresh. I would definitely go back.
BUT, my food experience was tied into the atmosphere, staff, and characters. I will say this- if they only offered food, I would still go- just not at that price. You pay for the characters. Though IMO, it wasn't too pricey.

Still laughing to myself at all the other posters. Great thread. LOL

Hey, OP - small town Texas girl here. I will see your New York palate and raise you a Tex Mex!!!!!:-)

Love me some Tex Mex of course! Not trying to get into pros and cons of each states food. Texas crushes the meat department, but I need more than just meat! And why are drinks so big in Texas how can anyone drink that much Dr Pepper ;)

Whats a Texans favorite Disney Restaurant?

Well because obviously everything is bigger in Texas!!! We miss Dr. Pepper so much while at WDW! I would say our favorites are different places like maybe Biergarten or Boma. Things we can't normally get around here. We are a hop, a skip, and a jump from Cajun country. So, we have Mexican, steaks, bbq, and seafood covered around here.

Despite being from the much maligned "Midwest", we do have a plethora of dining options available to us via the Twin Cities area. I am not talking about chain restaurants by any means. I also travel internationally and all over the US of A. I read restaurant reviews on numerous sites before booking any ADRs because I am aware tastes vary a great deal by region. WDW has some good offerings but many are "Americanized, watered down versions" of what an authentic offering might be. After having a lobster roll in Maine, the offering at CHH is not an acceptable alternative for example.

Your geographical location has less to do with your dining expectations than what you value in your entertainment budget. We value good food and we also cook as a hobby. I do understand where you are coming from OP, but geography has little to do with your concerns.
