New Yorkers Beware...Mickey is coming to town! June 17th, 2012 Canada Cruise

OK - just about ready! Found a reasonable hotel in Manhattan (had switched to out at LGA, but this was only $77 more so probably a wash with cab fare - DoubleTree Times Square South).

FE gifts in progress!

Now to get some dry cleaning done and pack! We fly out Saturday morning.

See you all soon!

Jeff

We are almost ready as well. We have 3/4 of everything packed and just about 4 FE gifts to finish (that we'll finish tomorrow). We fly out at 9 Saturday morning. Can't believe it's almost here!

For the non formal nights short are NOT ok..correct?

Jeans are ok however? With short sleeve polo?

Formal night shirt and tie enough? Or do we need a jacket as well?

Thanks,

Vince

As stated below, no formal night - only semi-formal

Here is what the DCL site says. I believe we only have a semi-formal night like a 4 night (they only have listings for 4 night and 7 night, so I combined them):

First night: cruise casual—no shorts, swimwear or tank tops
Two additional "cruise casual" nights—no shorts, swimwear or tank tops
One pirate or tropical night (deck party)
One semi-formal night — for men: suit/jacket; for women: dress or pantsuit.
Final night: cruise casual—no shorts, swimwear or tank tops

Dress code at Palo on all cruises:
Men: dress pants and shirt or jacket
Women: dress or pantsuit
Please no jeans, shorts, capri pants, flip-flops or tennis shoes

Not to start a debate as I really don't care one way or the other what people wear and I know how these threads get carried away on the main boards, but I wanted you to know that my email from Disney with the subject "Final Reminders Before Your Disney Cruise" says

Packing for Paradise. Here are a few tips on things to bring. For more details, be sure to refer to the Planning Center.
Days
• Onboard casual wear (shorts, slacks, jeans, long sleeve shirts)
• Comfortable shoes (sneakers, hiking boots, good socks)
• Port wear (Wool or fleece sweater, waterproof jacket. turtleneck, comfortable long sleeve shirts, hats, gloves)
• Comfy warm coats, gloves, hats.
• Nice dining attire (no jeans or shorts at dinner, please)
• Optional formal attire.

I bolded and underlined the no jeans part. It seems their emails and website conflict. I just wanted you to know both wording for your information.

I've been checking the weather in Saint John and Nova Scotia and today the temperature in Nova Scotia was 53 while the temp in Saint John was 70. I was surprised there was such a jump in between them.

I'm in New York all this week and I'm super excited to get on the ship! Is anyone else in the city doing things this week?

Wow! That is a big difference. We are doing our New York time after the cruise.

We are about 2/3 packed. Doing laundry nonstop - trying to keep the bottom of the basket visible:laundy:! Ordered our taxi to the airport. All summer health insurance figured out. Finally found the "Signature Form" with the help of you guys:woohoo:! FE bags ready to go - just need to add some stuff when we get to NJ. T-shirts - printing the iron-ons now, hope to finishe them tonight. Magnet pictures ready, laminating machine borrowed from MIL on stand-by, magnets and glue ready. It's all gotten a bit more last-minute than I wanted but hey, it'll get done, and what doesn't, well:confused3, guess that will mean it's not critical:cool1:!

See you on Sunday!!

Welcome NHMom! Great plan to come onboard while DH is away!!!!!:goodvibes

I hope DH doesn't need a jacket/suit. I wasn't planning on that one. Since we are taking the train, trying very are to just do it with carry ons.

No, He does not have to have a jacket or suit in the main dining rooms on semi-formal night with Disney. You will see many nice polos and/or shirt/ties.

How is everyone getting from hotels to pier, etc? Taxis or car service? and those of us going on train - from Penn Station to hotel (or pier)? Still trying to decide for sure on that one! Thanks.

It is almost time!!!!!!

Whew that makes me feel so much better. I was starting to panick about the suit.

Here are our travel plans. We will arrive at Penn Station the day we sail at 10:49. We are taking a taxi over to the pier. In case you are wondering there is space above train seats for luggage (Amtrak). My BF just came back from a day trip to NY city and confirmed that there is a elevator. She didn't ride the whole way to the street level. So I am hoping that it goes up there. I know every time I have gone to penn station the escalators were never working.

I was told by a fellow coworker who use to live in NY that it should only be a 15 minute cab ride from Penn station to the pier. He also said the cab driver should go 34 west to 11 th ave then to the ship. When you leave Penn station make sure you are leaving on 34th street side and heading west. I know that there are taxi stands on both sides of the station. Since we never used them before I didn't pay attention if they were both traveling in the same direction.

My last stressor is the return trip. Not sure about getting the luggage down to the train. I know they don't post the track numbers until the trains arrive and then it was always a mad dash for the track. Now we will have to do the elevator or try and carry the bags down. Guess it will depend on how heavy my bag gets.

Yes that is my stresser too for sure!! Our train leaves at 11:35am on Friday so I am sweating that a little! Someone on another post suggested getting a porter for the luggage that they could get us to the correct track faster - Ikd? We have never traveled by train before so this is all new to us!!
Thanks for the info on which side to catch the taxi on too!

Hi All!
Just wondering, has anyone called to find out what movies are going to be onboard?

Movies - You can call 888-325-2500, choose the reservations option, then ask what movies will be showing the week you cruise.

4 more days!:hyper:

OK, called and here's what they said:

The Avengers (my girls will be watching that again to see more Loki)
Chimpanzee
John Carter
War Horse

And possibly:
Cars 2
The Help
The Muppets

War horse is a tear jerker, not sure I want to see that again on vacation.

SPOILER

My kids' take on War Horse: That evil horse kills almost everyone he meets...

I was kind of hoping for a midnight showing of Brave on Thursday night, as it opens on Friday, but I guess not. Getting to excited!! We are leaving early Saturday morning and I have not packed or told my kids. So much to do before then.

This is our first Disney cruise and we are all very excited!! I have a question about the fish extenders....how exactly do they work? We have one made and would like to participate but we aren't exactly sure what to do with it. Any input would be appreciated. :rotfl:

According to one of the stage actresses on board the Magic, we will get a midnight viewing, and Merida (the girl in the movie - might be misspelled) is only appearing as a character on the Magic as well!
