I just read that an e-mail from a good friend in NYC that it is very creepy today as the police and military presence is strong and M16 riffles are visible.

I hope everyone is ok. My prayers are with our nation at this time.

Its been creepy around here for several weeks now. The feeling of doom is in the air. :(

(or at least that is my perception)

I was just about to start the same thread. I saw they were bringing anit-aircraft missles in to DC. What the heck???

How long will they keep them there and what will it mean when and if they remove them???:( :( :(

:(

I think that feeling is very pervasive for most of the country but I can only imagine how much more for people in so called "high-risk" areas.

DH and I made special mention of a strange feeling we had this morning and reviewed our meeting places, made sure we had our cell phones, etc. just in case. :(

Very scary for me as well and I'm up in Vermont. The F16 aircraft have been flying over my work all morning today, I get a knot in my stomach evertime I hear it take off.

God Bless all of us! Stay safe everyone.

Our new log home is in the flight path for a military installation. The past two weeks we have seem MANY large helicopters and equipment planes flying low. It reminds me of the pictures at the beginning of the Pearl Harbor movie!

I have an appointment 1 1/2 hours from home this afternoon. It is an uneasy feeling for me to go so far away from my family today -- not sure why I have that feeling 'today' - but I do. I'll be glad when I return back home again!

snoopy, you're not alone in that perception.

as i was just posting elsewhere, in dc we are so bombarded with all of this 24/7 it is hard to be "normal" though i try really hard. :)

stay safe. :)

Yup, Caity, as I just said to someone else, the feeling here in D.C. is "all war, all hate, all the time". Hard to tune it out when you are immersed in it. :(

That's the feeling I get everytime I watch the news...doesn't matter what network, ABC, NBC, CNN, FOX.

I just have this horrible feeling that we are going to war, very soon...and that things in this country will never be the same again.

Snoopy, I don't know how you do it, having it right up in your face like that.

This thread has me very concerned about my BIL and his family! They live in Virginia, and he works right down on the mall 2 blocks from the capital!

It's not TOO scary here.. I'm definitely worried but I know it's pretty much beyond my control so I'm trying not to stress. My mom is sending extra money so I won't have to take the subway as much - cabs are such a hassle though. I haven't seen more cops than usual, but I haven't ventured too far outside of my neighborhood in the past few days. Some of my friends' parents are making them go home this weekend, so the fear is definitely apparent, but I personally am doing fine.

My co-worker has stopped taking the subway. I think about the alerts every day I go through the Lincoln Tunnel...but I can't stay home because of it. I have a friend who carries around potassium chloride tablets. I will get water, canned goods and such, but don't think I'm going to seal off a room.

My manager just came over and gave me a mask and a flashlight, and let me know where the case of water is we have stored, in the event of an emergency. :(

I don't want to live like this, I really don't. :(

It is very scary and it's hard to stay "normal". It sounds like things are very stepped up in DC and NYC. The good news is that we have intelligence and the government is making an effort to keep everyone safe. It appears they have concerns for the Pentagon and the Capitol. I just pray that they do keep one step ahead and no one will be harmed.

As nervous as I am, I would be more concerned living or traveling to London right now. Have you seen what Heathrow looks like recently?! I'm trying to stay positive for all of us here and abroad but it is next to impossible when the media is covering every angle they can think of. Sometimes I have to turn it off and walk away.

we have masks too. yesterday we had a meeting and got a memo on emergency procedures and where there are supplies. :(

i've always lamented my interior office and the fact that it doesn't have a window. guess i am sort of happy about that now. :(

it's hard to explain to people what it is like here. some of my relatives think my apprehension is sort of silly, but then, they don't have to deal with it if they turn the tv off.

if you ever need to talk snoopy, i'm only a pm away. :)

Snoopy and caity my thoughts are with you two.:( I am sure the right people are doing the right things to keep your areas safe.

Be strong and try not to give into the fear. That is what this terrorism is about. I have faith you guys will get through this. Be safe!

Jen

Oh Snoopy and caitycaity, I don't know how you guys manage to stay so calm. I am a total worrier and I think I would be no good at work where you all are.

I have been really concerned all week trying not to show it at all to my kids but it must be really hard for those of you where the military and police are such a presence. What do you tell your kids?
