New York tips and discussion

I'm starting to think of silly questions now...

New York hotels are ok about holding luggage on the day of check out, aren't they? Our flight home is at 11pm so we'll be looking to leave our cases with them all day!

We managed to leave ours no problem, it cost a $ per bag. When we went before we left them with no charge. You could email the hotel beforehand to find out though.

We left our cases for a few hours on our last day and though the hotel didn't charge we did leave a tip :)

ETA: We used the Super Shuttle from Newark and had no problems, it seemed to be the most popular of the 'shared ride' type of things.
I've completed the New York section of my TR now and I think I included our dinner cost each day... We didn't eat at any chain type places (aside from anything else I think they're more expensive in Manhattan!) apart from the odd Starbucks coffee and were surprised at how little we ended up spending on food :)
As far as the outlet place: I wouldn't buy tickets in advance simply because there is soo much to do in New York City itself, especially on a first trip, so you may well find you have more than enough to fill your time. We didn't even make it to Brooklyn but definitely want to next time :goodvibes

Thanks, I think I'll email them just to be sure. :thumbsup2

Thanks for the info. :)

It's funny you say that about the chain restaurants being more expensive in Manhattan. I was looking at some menus yesterday and this definitely seems to be the case!! :scared1:

We've ruled out going to the outlet mall this time. There is already far too much to fit in, plus we're going to Orlando in August- plenty of outlet malls there!

They'll hold your bags at the Palace, they took ours last time, no charge :)

:goodvibes

:thumbsup2 Happy to help.

Just give us a shout if there's any more Palace inside info you want :)

:goodvibes

Thanks Luke!

Just wondering, did you call home when you were in NY/at the Palace? Last time I was at WDW, I bought a phone card and used the phone in my room to call home. There was no charge for doing this. I would like to do the same at the Palace but I'm anxious there will be a charge. Also, did you happen upon anywhere that sold the phone cards? I'll just buy one online if I find out they're hard to come by in NY. :thumbsup2

There's free wifi in the lobby so I used my iPhone to make free interent calls sorry :)

Tis also good to update Facebook with those sights you've seen to make the people back home jealous :lmao:

:goodvibes

I used some dodgy one from cydia on my jailbroken phone so it was free.
Official apps tend to have some subscription rates but still end up cheaper.
Truphone is well thought of tho, here's a little list of some of them

Thanks Luke, I'll have a look at the link. :thumbsup2

We're thinking of seeing a show now, A View From The Bridge with Scarlett Johansson. It's rather expensive but it should be a good experience!

Hi guys,

I am back from a fantastic trip. New York is an amazing place and we can't wait to return!

- My favourite parts were Central Park (just beautiful), the shopping (!) and the MET (stunning museum with a stunning collection of art).
- A View From The Bridge was excellent, we really enjoyed it.
- The New Yorkers we met were very friendly and helpful. The only rude people we encountered were tourists!
- We had no problems with the subway, which I was dreading! As long as you pay attention to where you're going, it's really straightforward.
- The taxi drivers were a little crazy but they are quick (!) and relatively cheap.
- The weather couldn't have been better: mid-70s every day and very sunny.
- We LOVED the Palace, it's an astounding hotel. We will definitely return.

I took hundreds of photos, many of which are on Facebook. If you would like to look but aren't friends with me on Facebook, please PM me and I'll send you a link. :)

Welcome back :wave2: glad you had a great time!

My DD went recently and she said she found everyone very friendly too.

Glad you enjoyed your trip Lauren, now when you going back?;)

We've been home from New York for almost two months now and we are hoping to book our next trip very soon! We've decided to go over the Easter weekend again, to take advantage of the bank holidays. :thumbsup2

I was just wondering if anyone could tell me of any travel companies that allow you to make a small deposit when you book. Expedia want £800+! :scared1: We can't really afford that at the moment. While the rational part of me says that I should just wait for a while, I just want to get it booked!! It doesn't feel real if it's not booked. :rotfl:

By the way, I know that quite a few of you had NY trips planned- I'd love to see some photos or hear some general feedback. :)
