New York State of Mind... update, look to the last post for a discount

I love NYC and remember one of my earlier visits staying at the Marriott Marquis for a New Year's eve trip. The view from there is amazing. I can't wait to go back again. :thumbsup2

this thread has me sooooooooooo excited:cool1:

I also love JayZ and Alicia's EMPIRE STATE OF MIND!!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0UjsXo9l6I8

"CONCRETE JUNGLE WHERE DREAMS ARE MADE OF, THERE'S NOTHING YOU CAN'T DO, COUNT ON NEW YORK, THESE STREETS WILL MAKE YOU FEEL BRAND NEW, THESE LIGHTS WILL INSPIRE YOU, LET'S HEAR IT FOR NEW YORK"!!!!

I love this song too. :thumbsup2

I lived in NYC for four years, from 2005-2009. Some aspects of living there were awesome, other aspects, not so much. It was too busy day in and day out for my personal taste.

I was there the week of Thanksgiving too. My ds is a freshman at Columbia so we will be going quite alot there. We get so depressed when we come back to Houston. What a lively city New York is. We stayed at Sheraton and the excitement of the city is just so amazing.:thumbsup2. We went to Macys day after thanksgiving and all it was full of people. You could not walk.

I miss it this time of year especially.

I grew up in Brooklyn and spent my entire working life in midtown Manhattan.

Yes, it's hectic, crazy and expensive... but there is NO other city like it.

And it will always be my HOME. :cloud9:

I live in Jersey but just 20 miles outside the city. However, I go to college in VA. I'm going home tomorrow for winter break and the first place i'm going is right into the city on Saturday to see SNL. I miss it so much. I was actually at the library today listening to Empire State of Mind on repeat while studying for finals!! I love absolutely everything about New York City. No where else can compare. Not even close.

And not to be a debbie downer, but there was a shooting in Times Square today. Not sure if it made National news or not, but my family definitely knew about it, but we do get NYC news channels. My boyfriend was actually in Times Square when it happened but was across the street. Apparently there was a cop chasing a con artist, and started shooting at him?? I don't really know why. Just a heads up though!

The title of your post made me smile as I love that song and always sing it when we go into the City. We have been to most major cities in this country and while they each have their own charm, they pale in comparison to NYC. It is the city by which all other cities are measured. We, too, went Tgiving weekend to see a premiere of the Frog and the Princess. The City is simply electrifying at this time of year and makes me feel very fortunate to live within driving distance to the greatest city in the world.:thumbsup2

So I opened up my e-mail and this was in there so I thought I would share it with those who are thinking NYC might be a nice place to visit.

I can personally say I have never been disappointed by the Marquis. It has been my favorite NYC spot since I was there for a company Christmas years ago and to this day, the glass enclosed elevators make me swoon:lovestruc Like every year, I'm going next week and counting down the hours!

I did see that and was stunned. The amount of police presence in NYC these days, ESPECIALLY during this time of year (seems like every street corner) makes this unbelievable to me. BAsed on that alone I suspect the guy went there wanting to kill an officer and am thankful no-one else got hurt. Crazy is crazy, location has nothing to do with it in my opinion. Not that this is what you were suggesting, I'm just making an observation. I'm going anyway and trust NYC's finest to keep us safe:thumbsup2

LuvOrlando-

I know this thread is almost a month old, but if you see this... How was your experience at Ouidad??? I am going for my first cut on the 18th. I am excited yet nervous. Cutting my curly hair is always somewhat of a scary experience :). Even though we live in CT, we are making a couple days of the trip and staying at the Marquis the night before. I am glad that you have such positive things to say about it!!!

Oh you are just going to love how they handle curls and waves. The cuts are always perfect and do such a good job thinning my hair so it falls well without ruining it. The only thing is my hair tends to flop under the weight of all the products they put in it so I never get to fully appreciate the cut until I get to do it myself. I happen to prefer Bumble and Bumble Hair Creme because it is much much lighter for day to day but Ouidad's heat & humidity gel is a must for me in the summer, to swat down all those pesky frizzes that pop out all over an otherwise nice ponytail.

Vincent is my guy, and my DF's guy but DF's DD goes to another equally good stylist. I'm sure they are all wonderful.:thumbsup2 Oh and when we're done we absolutely always visit the Carnegie Deli around the corner for a Pastrami on Rye with a Potato Knish :worship: Have fun Aquagirl and let me know how it turned out for you:goodvibes
