Well, our trip just got big-ger :thumbsup2
Not longer, just an extra stop LOL

We've decided that we might head to New York, we have enough credit (Thanks Delta :thumbsup2) to get there and back, so it's a very real possibility.
Just pricing out hotels and we'll see if it's doable.
Any rec's for hotels, areas, things to do, it'll probably just about 3 days or so, just enough for a taste and the desire to go back :thumbsup2

A number of us like the DoubleTree Times Square. If you watch and wait, a price around the $300 - $350 mark is possible for the one bedroom suite there.

Otherwise, the alternative is Radio City Apartments.

If this is your first trip to NYC, then the standard attractions are must-dos:
  • Empire State Building
  • Rockerfeller Building (and Top of the Rock)
  • Statue of Liberty
  • Staten Island Ferry
  • Walking the Brooklyn Bridge
  • Central Park
  • Shopping - Times Square, 5th Avenue and near Macy's in 33rd Street
  • The High Line
  • Catching a Broadway Show
  • Food, food, food

There is so much to see and do that you really won't go wrong doing anything there.

Just to add to the above:

The Affinia Hotels are great.

Also spend some time in Greenwich Village and Soho.

I fell in love with these areas

We spent 3 full days and 2 half days last October - LOVE NYC - you wont regret going - when else could you go there and its only going to cost you ...$$

We stayed at Doubletree in Times Square - which was fantastic - as we are a family of five there werent too many options - so didnt really consider anywhere else. There is a pretty detailed NYC section of my TR - link in my sig - it was week three of our trip so might have to skip through a few pages.

Yep have to agree with PrincessinOZ Doubletree Times square is worth every cent for the location:cloud9:

Statue of liberty with crown tickets so you can climb to the top.

:thumbsup23 days will certainly leave you wanting more

I :love::love::love: NY

another vote for Doubletree Guest Suites. Loved the hotel, loved the location, couldn't be beat! Oh and Loved NY

Have a cupcake from Magnolia Bakery. Actually I got a box of them and when I got back to the hotel as I was taking the seal/sticker off the box, it flew across the room and landed upside down on the floor, on the carpet, lid open.... cupcakes everywhere, icing on the carpet :sad::sad: ... I thought it was the universe telling me I didn't need those cupcakes :rotfl: But I just went right back the next day and got another box! Wasn't going to miss out! They were SOOOO good!:cloud9:

Becpee doesn't have children so doesn't need all the room that Doubletree offers along with their prices perhaps? PIO, that is a pretty amazing price that you mention. Where do you watch and wait to get those prices because that is so reasonable compared to what their website says for those rooms? Would love to stay there if could get those sorts of prices. (don't mean to hijack your thread Becpee :))

Becpee, we have stayed at Crowne Plaza Times Square which is awesome location but you need to try and find a deal for that one. Second trip we stayed at The Hilton New York which is about 2 blocks off Times Square. I think you can get a room with a king bed or 2 doubles there for around $250 per night. We really liked it here.

You will be so glad you added NYC to your trip. Its our favourite place in the US so far, we adore it.

Expedia.com.

But we also have access to a US corporate rate because of DH's work. So, we actually got the corporate rate for DoubleTree at $299. Our room was on level 16 (I think) and it was rather quiet for us.

Funny thing about the US corp rate...sometimes it works for us, sometimes it doesn't. I tend to watch Expedia.com and when the price is right, we'll call up and see what the corporate rate is. 90% of the time, Expedia is cheaper.

Expedia.com.

I booked through Expedia too. They were having a % off sale and I got a great rate (don't ask me what it was, old age and my memory is going :rotfl: ). It was cheaper than booking direct.

mmm, that corporate rate would be nice PIO. I have a corporate TA, we get corporate rates for airfares, haven't thought to ask her about accommodation, I've always liked to do my own. Must look into that!

So much info, it's like DisneyWorld all over again LOL

Ms Shuttergirl, I have 1 little cherub LOL but he doesn't take much room :lmao:

I didn't even think of Expedia.com I've been looking at Hotels.com

I can't believe the number of hotels in one city!
DH didn't need any convincing :thumbsup2

Off to Expedia I go!

Magnolia bakery :yay:

How much am I going to spend??? Bahaha

It doesn't matter how much you spend as long as you don't spread....sideways. :rotfl:

I seriously don't know why I bother dieting before I go away....I only ever go away to eat and gain the weight back. :lmao:

Becpee also look at tripadvisor they have a 15% off link for Doubletree Times square if you are looking at this hotel and you see a good price jump on it 2 months ago i could of booked our dates for $365 for 6 of us now the cheapest is $466 with the trip advisor rate which you can cancel.
Good luck making your decision :)

Go to NY - you will not regret it! :cheer2:

We are booked into Doubletree Times Square in April, we booked last October at $303 a night. One of the Hilton Chains was offering a weekend deal, so maybe check out there website.

The other benefit of Times Square is there is a Disney Store there again:rolleyes1

You will definitely fill your three days, and be wishing you stretched it to 4 or 5.

Just wondering which airport is best to fly into JFK or LaGuardia?

When you say you watch Expedia, do you mean that you go on regularly and type in your dates for that hotel and see if they have a deal going? Or are you looking at a variety of hotels and just seeing weekly who is running a deal?

I booked through Expedia too. They were having a % off sale and I got a great rate (don't ask me what it was, old age and my memory is going :rotfl: ). It was cheaper than booking direct.

Aussietravellers, same question for you, do you just check in weekly to Expedia and look at the hotel you want for your dates and see if there is a deal that week?

Oh sorry Becpee, I forgot you did have a little one.

Thanks for the heads up WAMUMOF4

Just wondering which airport is best to fly into JFK or LaGuardia?

LaGuardia is closer to midtown so it will cost less for a cab and be quicker to get to midtown but even if you fly into JFK it is a fixed cost for a cab.

Hope this helps!

Aussietravellers, same question for you, do you just check in weekly to Expedia and look at the hotel you want for your dates and see if there is a deal that week?

Ms.Shuttergirl I am a bit obsessive about checking dates and watching prices (with airfares and accommodation). I'm watching HoJo's daily at the moment, watching out for the Entertainment rate so I can jump on it if it comes up for my dates. Before I booked I kept checking their website and the most I could get was 15% (either for Dis discount, stay 2 or 3 and get 15% off etc), then one day a stay 5 get 20% off came up so I jumped on it, now I want the 50% off ent rate (I'm not really greedy :rotfl2:). So I do check often and I check direct and also on a variety of websites.

I'm now starting on Vegas :rotfl:

Expedia always send an email when they have a 24hr, 48hr or 72hr sale. So that particular time I got the email. Checked prices everywhere and Expedia was well below the others (including direct with Doubletree) for the same room. So I jumped on it. I had room requests that I emailed Expedia about and they added to the booking. I saved hundred's of $'s.

Shuttergirl - I'm constantly checking TripAdviser and Expedia...even when I haven't got a trip planned. :lmao:

We used expedia for our stay last year - it was a combined booking 4 nights at the doubletree - breakfast inc -(4 people) and return airfare from Orlando for 5 people. $3200 - I thought that was pretty good rate, since apparently September / October is high season.
