me.....only going to buy shoes

my mum......only going because she thought of it !

DD .... only going to go ice skating

DS....only going to ride in the elevator at the empire state building

Our trip started on the sunday 7th December after a meal at lunchtime in the local pub, we loaded up our cases and me mum and the kids headed to Heathrow.

We had got a room (well 2 actually) booked at the Renaissance incl parking, after driving round heathrow twice i eventually found the hotel :rotfl:

It was very busy as IBM were holding a childrens party ! we dumped our cases and headed into terminal three to Garfunkels and had a bite to eat. After that we chilled in the room and watched strictly before getting an early night.

Monday 8th December

we awoke at 5.30am and packed our things quickly and then back to terminal 3 to check in, i had not been able to do online check in for some reason:confused3

we used the check-in booth thing and all went well till the last minute when it failed to print out our docs so we ended up at the desk after all.

We had some toast in the terminal and watched the news reports about a protest at Stansted. the time passed really quickly and before we knew it they were calling us to the gate !

as you can see this was our plane....as i had the kids in tow i thought it was very aptly named :rotfl:

The plane was equipped with the V-Port entertainment system and i watched Mamma Mia and SATC :cool1: Just for joh ( i know she is worried about this) i can confirm that i managed to eat drink and talk on the plane all without being airsick :cool1: IM CURED !!

Upon landing at JFK we aranged our onward transportation and after a very long journey into Manhatten we arrived at out Hotel...The Affinia Manhatten, The hotel was right opposite Madison square garden and was very central to all the sights :)
We had a lovely suite consisting of 2 bathrooms a large bedroom a large lounge and a kitchen area. we were on the 13th floor ;)
we dumped our bags and headed to the empire state building ! now in hindsight this was a stupid idea, we were all very tired and had not anticipated just how huge the lines would be

here are a couple of pics

we just didn't do it justice ! we got a quick meal in an irish pub somewhere and headed back to the hotl and bed

Day 2 to follow

Great start Nat, and lovely pics too. I can't wait to read some more :thumbsup2

Lovely start Nat. Did you all get to sit together then, I know you were worried about that before you went. The same thing happened to us with online check in, then the kiosk check in but we also had a mysterious phone call to someone about us in face to face check in. Scared the living daylights out of me.

I would love to go to New York, shame about the lines for the Empire State Building. When we went to London we felt like it was just a big theme park after visiting Orlando so often and just zipped round the different 'ŕides'.

I have felt a bit scared about booking to go to New York because of being with the real people and not being in the security of a park if you know what I mean but it sounds like you started off just fine.

I presume you would recommend the hotel you booked. Did you book everything separately or was it a package?

Thanks

Bev

PS Looking forward to the next part.

We were sat in two's ! that worked out fine :thumbsup2

New york was so confusing at 1st but we soon got the hang of it, The hotel was lovely and yes it was part of a package....my mum booked it all through thomas cook signature :scared1: she's old fashioned like that !

thanks for your comments x x

Great start Nat and I'm so pleased you weren't ill on the plane. My sister is moving to NYC in 2 weeks tomorrow so I'll make notes of where I want to visit :goodvibes

Sorry for hijacking your thread Nat, she will be working right by New York Central Station and they've rented a house near Westchester which is about half an hours train ride away!

Great start Nat, it sounds like such a great place to go! I would love it for DH to take me there.
