As most of you know, I'm headed there in July, and my mom and I are looking at all of the touristy stuff to do, and there is alot, but I wanted to know, what kinds of things are fun, and what stuff should we skip?

We've already got tix for broadway shows; We're seeing Spamalot, The Color Purple, Mary Poppins, and Spring Awakening. I'm totally excited!:yay:

Thanks for your help.

Don't expect Spamalot to be just like the movie. That was my mistake and I was very disappointed.

Of course go shopping. umm go to empire state building, and go to Dean and Deluca's for the best hot choclate ever. Yes I know it's summer but it's that good.

The Color Purple is amazing! It's sooooo sad, but the music is incredible. And I personally loved Spamalot. Yeah, it's really different from the Holy Grail movie, but I still thought it was hilarious. And I haven't seen Mary Poppins or Spring Awakening yet, but I know that Spring Awakening is supposed to be great! Enjoy yourself, and report back everything! :)

What was so bad about the musical?
I was expecting it to be like the movie too, until I read your post.

They explain most of the jokes, introduce new characters, skip tons of the best scenes, and RUIN the Knights of the Round Table song.

I was very disappointed with Mr. Idle.

Just don't expect it to be like the movie and you'll be fine.

I personally loved Spamalot. I am a fan of the movie, and while things are definetely different, it is still an amazing and hysterical show. :)

I've heard nothing but good things about Color Purple and Mary Poppins, and Spring Awakening is my new favorite obsession. I'm actually seeing it on Wednesday, so I will let you know how it is.

Anywho, for the touristy things, there is the usual: empire state, statue of liberty, ellis island, ground zero, rockafellar center, times square, etc.
If you like shopping, go to the South Street Seaport. HUGE mall, and tons of outside shops and such. I don't exactly know where it is, but I know it is relatively close to the Brooklyn Bridge (there is a gorgeous view of the bridge from the back of the Seaport).

Times Square is awesome. I love to just walk around, going into random shops along the way. There is a Hershey's store, which as you walk by it, you can smell yummmmy hershey's chocolate... and the huge ferris wheel inside the Toys R Us is really cool. Expensive and sometimes crowded, yes, but still really fun.

As for food... Hard Rock and Planet Hollywood are cool... Ellen's Stardust Cafe is fun, as the waiters sing for you. For really good pizza, try John's Brick Oven Pizzeria. And for realllly good Italian food (family style), try Tony DiNapoli's. (AMAZING pasta. and really good Ceaser Salads.)

SPAMALOT IS TERRIFIC! Definately go to the NYC World Of Disney. Check out China Town, Battery park (me and my friends hang out BTW) and all that good tourist stuff!

AHHHHH nooooo not China town!!! I went there it scared me!! It smells like dead fish and in buckets theres live frogs swimming around in there. ewwww i hate china rown.

I'm assuming its similar to the China Town in San Fransisco? I've been to NYC, but just for a night, so I didn't get to do anything neat.

China Town is awesome man! I'm also an LES offspring (my parents met and lived in the Lower East Sid around the time I was concieved). My dad used to work and was one of the managers at a famous club named CBGB. There's plenty of cool things here. But there's some things that tourists don't know much about. Like Snug Harbor on Staten Island. The Cloisters uptown in Washington Heights, Coney Island (I used to work there), etc.
