Very reliable sources have indicated that the flagship Disney Store on 5th Avenue in New York City is no longer part of TDS, but is now under the direct control of WDW. There is some redesign being done, and it may change its name to "World of Disney".

However, they may not go back to having all the good merchandise and collectibles which were originally on the third floor.

I would not count out 5th Avenue for "morphing" into a wonderful store once again. I have heard it will close for renovation for a few months perhaps? Right now you will see the same Disneystore merchandise.

Well, looks like we're getting a "World of Disney" in NYC!!

I was just looking at job postings (as I always am) and found this job description:

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide overall merchandise leadership and direction to the World of Disney –5th Avenue Store and the Studio Store in Burbank. Develop effective relationships with key internal and external partners, work with media and other partners to establish Walt Disney World initiatives in the local market, and work with key partners in the New York City area to establish and market the Walt Disney Company brand. Responsible for strategically managing public relations/communications, promotions, special events and community functions, as well as developing and implementing a Guest relations strategy, partnering with hotel concierge, travel and convention bureau. Must achieve and exceed established sales plan and profitability goals.

I'm not sure what that'll mean for merchandise or renovations, but apparently the name will be changed, if nothing else. I really hope they bring collectibles back - there's nothing more satisfying for me than lugging a huge back of fragile items onto the train back to CT!!

TDS are exiting the collectibles business permanently. This includes 5th Avenue. When it becomes a World of Disney store it will carry only park merchandise. This may or may not include collectables but it will not include WDCC.

This was announced awhile back, that this store was going to become a park of the parks division and become a WOD store. I think they are supposed to close for renovations this moenth, and be closed for like three or four months?

It is they only store that I have heard of that is doing this.

Could be they didn't want to lump this valuable location in with a sale of all of the mall Disney Stores.
